SPECIAL GUEST: TOM WAITS
Cold Opening: Scooter, Tom Waits, & monsters
Scooter: "Tom Waits, 15 seconds to curtain, Mr. Waits!"
Tom: (strumming on an antique obscure stringed instrument) "Thank you, Scooter. You know, it's so nice to be normal..."
Scooter: "But Tom, we put you on the show because you're so WEIRD!"
Tom: "I know. But on this show, I'm the most normal one here!"
(and we see him surrounded by Muppet monsters)
OPENING THEME
OPENING NUMBER: Uncle Deadly and a band of monsters sing "God's Away On Business". At song's end, the monsters turn into the Electric Mayhem.
Waldorf: "So God's away on business, eh?"
Statler: "Then who's running things down here?"
(enter Uncle Deadly)
UD: "I think we ALL know the answer to that! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
BACKSTAGE: Tom Waits introduces Kermit to his guru, who turns out to be Cantus. Cantus, of course, regales Kermit with platitudes of wisdom that Kermit doesn't quite get.
SONG: Tom Waits sings "It's All Right With Me" with the Minstrels as his backup band.
BACKSTAGE: Cantus tries to impart his wisdom on Janice (who soaks it up), Scooter (who doesn't get it), and Zoot.
SKIT: "Veterinarian's Hospital". Cantus is the patient.
Statler: "You know, I can't think of anything weirder than watching this show."
Waldorf: "Bravo! Bravo! I loved it! I wanna come back next week!"
Statler: "Never mind."
UK SPOT: Dog Lion sings "I Don't Wanna Grow Up"
SONG: The Electric Mayhem play and sing "Downtown Train".
TALK SPOT: Tom shows Kermit some of his unique and bizarre instruments. Gonzo then shows up and tries to play them better...by playing them the wrong way. Tom loves it.
BACKSTAGE: More words of wisdom from Cantus (who is still baffling most of the Muppets backstage)
Scooter: "At least he doesn't speak Swedish..."
Cantus: "Bork Bork Bork!"
CLOSING NUMBER: Tom Waits, the Minstrels and the Electric Mayhem play "Frank's Wild Years"
CLOSING THEME
Cantus: "And in the end, we look towards new beginnings."
Statler & Waldorf: "Except on THIS show! In the end, we look towards the EXIT!"
