Question Who are the Fireys (specifically)?

I mean, the imdb website tells who does each of the Fireys from Labyrinth, but... I can't make any sense out of it! They have like three or four people put down for Firey 3! (Maybe I'm exaggerating). Anyway, I was mostly wondering who exactly does the voice for each Firey, and which Firey? I also don't know which is Firey 1, which is Firey 2, etc, so I'll just say, who did the voice of the one who threw his hand in the fire, who was the fat one, who was the one whose chin was dragging on the ground, who was the one at the top of the MC main page, (or if by the time this post is read, that has changed, then I'm talking about the firey on the banner in the banner section of this site, right now it's the only one with a firey. I tried putting a link to it, but it didn't work) and who was the other one? Because according to imdb, there were five fireys, but I only remember four. I hope I'm being clear.
If I don't find out I'll lose my...

temper!

You thought I was gunna say head, didn't you?

All I know is that Kevin Clash (Elmo, Clifford) is the first one who sings. OT, I think "Chilly Down" should be put down as one of the great Henson classic songs - Muppets, SS, or not.

It's not a mistake that so many performers are credited to the Fierys. These were such complicated puppets that it took one entire performer to move the head, another to move the arm, etc. All of the performers were then bluescreened out of the shot. You can see them rehearsing in the "Into the Labyrinth" documentary on the DVD.

I can't tell you the names of the other performers, but BoyRaisin is right, Kevin Clash is one of them. Ordinarily Jim didn't want Muppet performers to have the same voices as Creature Shop creations (imagine a realistic creature with Kermit's voice), but Clash was still new to the organization at this point.

The list of singers might be mentioned on the Labyrinth soundtrack CD; if not, the end credits of the movie definitely list all the performers of the Fierys, with the one who does the voices first.

Since this was only for one musical number, none of the characters were given individual names; perhaps (and I'm not positive of this) the Labyrinth CD (or songbook) might also note who's singing what part in the lyrics.

Need to see the film again before I could clearly divide them by characteristics, but according to the on-screen credits, Danny John-Jules (Cat on "Red Dwarf" and do wop singer in "Little Shop of Horrors") voiced Fireys 3 and 4, one of which I believe was the chubby one. Firey 2 was singer Charles Augins (and either he or John-Jules was the first to chant "Chilly down, chilly down" if memory serves, but again need to double check), and Firey 5 was Richard Bodkin. Hope to re-watch the film soon, and hopefully post more precise identifications then.

As regards puppeteers, Kevin Clash was the lead operator (as well as voice) on Firey 1 (assisted by David Barclay and Toby Philpott), Karen Prell on #2 (with Ron "Ludo" Mueck, who also helped fabricate the Fire Gang, and Ian Thom), #3 by Dave Goelz (assisted by Rob Mills and Sherrt Amott), #4 by Steve Whitmire (with Cheryl Henson and Kevin Bradshaw), and #5 by Anthony Asbury (with Alistair Fullarton and Muppet Workship/Creature Ship designer/builder Rollin Krewson assisting.) Hope this helps somewhat.

A. Leal,

Again, thanks so much! Is there any way we could get more specific than just numbering, though? I'm trying to remember myself. Here are my best guesses:

1) very bird-like in appearance. At one point, he shouts, "Hey, lady. Where you go with a HEAD like that?" If that isn't Kevin, I'll be astounded.

2) very cat-like. Had his tongue hanging out all the time and kept saying "yeah! yeah!" (I don't know if this was #2 or not; at this point I'm just listing them.)

3) Kind of chubby face, almost looks like he has a mustache.

4) The one that sings "And even down looks up..."

5) There was another one that was kind of bird-like in appearance, but not as the same as the one performed by Kevin.

Have I got them right now, or am I confusing some of them together (and did I leave anyone out)? I'm not even sure which one I have as my avatar (I think it's either #1 or #5).

Also, if any of you are as of the British series "Red Dwarf", Danny John-Jules (The Cat) is one of the other Firey voices. I believe he's the one who says "that what he said, don't lose your head" or something like that. Danny can also be found in Blade 2 (he might have been in the first oen too I can't remember.) But anyway hope is of some help.

Red Dwarf...cool. A. Leal had mentioned that too, but I didn't catch it the first time. Thanks for pointing it out.

I know it's been said that very few Muppet preformers did voices in Labyrinth (Brian Henson, Kevin Clash), but, do you think they would have made an exception in minor, tow-line rolls? I was wondering if Dave Goelz played any of the Goblins. I know it's said that none of the Muppeteers VOICED characters, but there's this one Goblin that sounds JUST like Beauregard. Is it him?

GOBLIN:
Did she say it?

Yeah, I've always wondered that too! Unfortunately, he's not listed in the credits anywhere. But it could have been a last-minute addition, and Jim used Dave because he was available. We may never know.

Funny--clicking on my mouse and watching those credits scroll by made it look like the end credits were actually "rolling" on my computer! The music started playing in my head too. Now I feel like I have to walk across a sticky floor to get out of the movie theater.
