XERUS'S VOICE ARTIST FOCUS

This week's V/A focus is the legendary Paul Frees. Paul was famous for providing the voice of Boris Badenov in the old Rocky and Bullwinkle Show. And Paul did lots and lots of voicework for Rankin/Bass specials and TV series and did some voicework for Disneyland theme park attractions. Sadly, he passed away in 1986. But I'll always think of Paul as one the legendary voice artists of cartoon past.

Awesome, Xerus. I had no idea he was Toucan Sam! I had always thought X. Atencio did the "Dead men tell no tales" line though on Pirates?

Good job Xerus... Just a bit down because the voice talents for shows I like are getting reduced to crud. We can talk about it some other time or place.
Look forward to the next focus.

Wow Xerus, you haven't done these focuses in a while!!!

So are you SURE Paul didn't do Fearless Leader on Rocky and Bullwinkle? Because some sources say he did.

In the Movie Some Like it Hot, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon disguise themselves as women. Paul Frees dubbed the voice over for Tony Curtis' "Josephine" character. Tony's voice wouldn't go high enough.

And there are sources that say Bill Scott performed Fearless Leader. ::shrugs::

I'm not really sure myself. But I do think Bill Scott did Fearless Leader because it sounds like one of Bill's voices.

Also, I just learned from someone that Paul didn't do the voice of Heap O'Calorie in Dick Tracy. Heap was done by Johnny Coons. Sorry about the mistake.

Thanks, Count.

And I too have noticed that certain cartoons are now using voice actors I've never heard of.

I haven't seen the Pirates attraction so I wouldn't really know. I just read it off a Paul Frees site.

And I have noticed that Toucan Sam does have that Paul Frees tone. Maurice LaMarche is now doing Sam these days.

Well... It's not that the actors are ones I've never heard of...

Take Pokemon for instance. The new main series (cause there are three series airing currently) Battle Frontier...
The regular voice cast that had provided the voices since the beginning, even the new actors who voice May and Max... Every one of them got booted out after ten years when the new cast took over for Battle Frontier.
And what I rully don't understand, is why, when CN decides to air episodes of Pokemon Chronicles in English, the voice talent's the same from the previous ten seasons of the various series.

Another example I could point out is The Winks Club. After two seasons, they changed the actress who voices Techna one of the main fairies in the premiere of Season 3. And then, in the second episode, after the premiere had already aired, they go and switch the voice of Stella (another one of the main fairies).
Just stuff I've noticed auditively as I watch the shows I enjoy watching in the field of animation.
