XERUS'S VOICE ARTIST FOCUS

This week's voice tribute goes to the late Hal Smith. (1916-1994)
You might remember him in his role as Otis the Town Drunk from the old Andy Griffith show. Hal also did a lot of voicework in his career. Probably his most famous voices were Goliath from Davey and Goliath, Owl from the Winnie the Pooh series, and the kind hearted Mr. Whittaker from the Adventures on Odyssey series.

Yes he sure did, Xerus. I also remember recognizing his voice popping up in quite a few "Flintstones" episodes. I recently just watched the "Andy Griffith Show" where Barney threw a tomato at Otis. At the end, Otis throws a tomato at Barney. I loved Otis' laugh when he did this! I also recall Howard McNear (Floyd the barber) and Howard Morris (Ernest T Bass) doing voices on "The Flintstones", both of whom also had fantastic voices!

Yes, some of those Andy Griffith characters went off to do voices for cartoon characters later. And I can usually recognize a Hal Smith or a Howard Morris voice when I hear it. :smile:

After rewatching Pontoffel Pock, Where Are You?, I'm pretty sure Hal was also the voice of McGillicuddy's supervisor, the "Good Fairy in Chief".

I think that probably was Hal along with one of McGillicuddy's assistants.

I also like to add another of Hal's voice credits to the list. I just found this out.
