PBS Kids Sprout to launch September 1, 2005
We've been talking about the rumors for months, but it is now official that there will be a new channel owned by Sesame Workshop, Comcast, HIT and PBS. They will have access to Sesame's entire library. Time will time if they show Classic Sesame Street from the 70s and 80s.
"On Demand" programming is available as of April 1 and the station will launch on Comcast beginning September 1. No plans have yet been announced for satellite broadcast (DirecTV and Dish Network). The "On Demand" shows will be rotating every couple weeks so there is no telling what they may show. For the announced lineup and more info on the channel, check out this story. http://www.muppetcentral.com/news/2005/040405.shtml

All that I know on demand that Sesame Street episodes are from Season 30 only, which featured early Elmo's World segments. BTW, I don't think this channel is gonna have older SS as well as other old CTW shows like The Electric Company, 3-2-1 Contact, and Square One TV and older PBS shows like Carmen Sandiago, old school Zoom, and Lamb Chop's Play-Along.

They will DEFINETELY have Sesame Too on there, because Spout is On Demand right now, and all of the episodes of Sesame Street they have listed are from the 1998-1999 season.

Personally, I was thrilled about this before I heard of PBS's involvement. I mean, do we REALLY need another channel with Barney the Dinosaur and Tellitubbies on it? I'm not a fan of Hit, either (though, they are the ones who own Barney), but it gives ups a 50 50 chance there will be Fraggle Rock on the channel. I do not have cable, and I don't think I'll ever get it, but I'm still rooting for an uncut, unpaved-like show, featuring older clips (because I was always hoping for a SS fan alternative, since a lot of die hards hate the new SS). We can only hope their plans to release "Electric Company" DVD's may help the chances of this.

Oh that is so cool! So I'm assuming they'll get away with playing skits that feature Kermit? And I guess that sucks for any Optimum Online area users, eh?

According to this,we should see some advertising soon.(http://www.kidscreen.com/articles/ma...01/sprout.html)
PBS is also planning to make good use of its cross-promotional clout. One station in each market will be co-branded on the VOD menu's user interface. And in August, 45 local PBS stations, representing roughly 50% of all U.S. TV households, will begin airing spots to build awareness for the Sprout channel. In return, Sprout will air cross-channel spots and run print ads to promote the local stations. Also it says Direct TV will cary sprout as well. A prelude to the territory's first 24/7 dedicated preschool channel, PBS Kids Sprout On-Demand hit U.S. airwaves last month, offering 50 hours of VOD programming culled from the libraries of founding partners HIT Entertainment, Sesame Workshop and PBS. The consortium, which also includes cable service provider Comcast, will follow up in October with PBS Kids Sprout proper, reaching 85% of Comcast's 8.6 million digital cable customers, as well as subscribers of competing services Direct TV and Insight Communications.
