A collaboration with composer/double bassist Jane Wang and lighting designer Trevor Brown, this accidental singspiel is based on E.M. Forster's 1909 short story The Machine Stops. Narrated, sung and chanted by the talented vocalist Tanya Thomas, this story tells of an underground world tyrannized and run by The Machine. The performers are industrial materials, sheets of aluminum, plumbing pipes and construction ropes, as well as 120 counterweighted strings. The artist Matt Freedman provides the prologue with a performance of his fascinating lightning sketches, a kind of fast-moving story-board technique with origins in 19th century fairground entertainment.

Plans are underway for the Seventh International Toy Theater Festival, to be held this year at St. Ann's Warehouse. GSW is seeking submissions for the exhibition which will be mounted around multiple performing areas. Artists and archivists, puppeteers and papermakers, sculptors and script writers, makers of dolls and dioramas, researchers and recyclers, miniaturists, techno geeks, activists and collectors are all invited to participate. The Temporary Toy Theater Museum is the companion attraction to the Festival's program of performances. In curating the exhibit, GSW strives to expand the field of toy theater experimenters. They seek examples of historic proscenium paper theaters as well as the widest possible range of other media and artistic styles.

City Parks Foundation presents the latest marionette production "Three" at Central Park's historic Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre. The show weaves together the traditional fairy tales The Three Little Pigs, The Three Bears, and The Three Billy Goats Gruff, with an exciting new twist. In this new telling of three classic stories, the character of the Big Bad Wolf makes his way through the enchanted forest in an effort to change his reputation. The show is written by Jeff Borkin, an Emmy Award-winning children's television writer, and features original music and new marionettes by master puppet maker Addis Williams. The production is suited for children ages 3 and up.

On Saturday May 21, 2005, the 8-hour theatrical pageant is performed throughout network of over 35 magnificent gardens in the East Village. The pageant includes a day-long parade of giant flower puppets, spectacular costume garden characters, and musical bands. There are presentations by over 500 artists, of performance, dance, music, and poetry at the various gardens.
