The Muppets head for Oz

The Muppet Wizard of Oz is officially a go now. It will be based on the book, not the movie.

Hrmm...

Blah...

I just don't think the Muppets doing Wizard of Oz is what they need to invigorate the characters.

I want to see more of the characters doing ORIGINAL stuff.

I guess we'll see, though.

I'm a HUGE fan of the wizard of oz books, so I'm really optimistic about this project. I think that the muppets can really make it fun and fresh; I'm probably the only one on the board who is excited about this but I don't care!

Sounds terrific! I can't wait to see what they do with it.

I wonder if they'll be writing any songs for the movie.

I think it's a good thing that it will be based on the book, at least. That will give them a chance to do some fresh new stuff, not just competing against Judy Garland. Still, I'd rather they do an original movie.

I'm a big fan of the books, and I think this can really work. Remember, the best stuff from the Mupppet Show was parody!

I have high hopes for this project. I keep imagining Johnny Fiama as the Great and Terrible Oz with Sal as the doorkeeper. And oh, to see Pepe as Toto...

Sounds like fun!

At the very least it'll probably be better than 90 percent of what's on TV today.

I'm still mixed. I'm happy it's being based on the book and not just some cheapo parody of the movie. Hopefully this will turn out good, but I still would rather see something more of a sketch movie (like Monty Python's the Meaning of Life).

That would be Funny. Sal as the Doorkeeper

"You can't come In, Because Johnny Fiama said so"

"Uh Sal, I'm The The Great and Terrible Oz"

"Okay Johnny"

"(sigh) Just Call Me The Wizard, Okay ?"

"Oh, Okay Johnny."

"Johnny said That You Can't See Johnny, Uh, The Wizard Right Now"

"I'm The WIZARD SAL !"

"Okay Johnny."

I'm Thinking Of Johnny As The Creat & Terrible Oz, and his head (Supersized) just floating up in the air. I Think That He would really fit the part really well. (and besides the wizard's head floating in the air compaird to Johnny's (origanal) Head are both green anyways.)

Hmm, Fox is involved. I just find that sort of interesting.

Hope it's good.

I would rather see a Muppet movie about Muppets, something original; but, I'm glad that it's being based on the book rather than the movie!! When I was in the play, we changed the beginning and ending of the play to match the book as well as the 39 MGM Film.

Well, we're off to see the Wizard!

Well something nice for a change. Now I'll love it. Can't wait for it to hit TV! I've never read the book but I have seen alot of other pics in the book and it does seem alot differnt then what I had seemed. Isn't all together that is the Wizard of Oz and Return to Oz? Aren't they all the same book just two differnt movies?

No, in the original Oz series, there were several books by Baum about the Land of Oz (which was the title of the 3rd book, I believe; second book was Ozma of Oz {which combined with Land of Oz created the movie Return to Oz}). After Baum passed away, the publisher hired Ruth Plumley Thompson to continue the series: today, there are altogether 40 "official" Oz books.

You can click here for another thread to be dedicated to the Non-Muppet Oz Works: Wizard of Oz (Baum, Movie, Books)
