I can remember two verses of this song but not the third. Anyone who can give me the third gets a hug. Here are 2 out of 3:
2)I read a magazine about a beauty queen who likes to bounce all day on a trampoline.
3)In this newspaper I just read about a guy who ate a thousand pieces of pumpkin pie.

the chorus follows each verse
Can read, can read, a (magazine/newspaper) you can read. A (magazine/newspaper)'s all you need, and you, can read.

the song ends with
Read a book! magazine! newspaper! It's great for you and me!

I'm sure Bob sang about the newspaper and Gina maybe sang about the magazine. Maria might have been the book singer??

BIG BIRD:
I'm reading this book here
About a pioneer
Who rode his horse all over the ol' frontier
Can read, can read
A book's something you can read
A good book is all you need
Then you can read

SUSAN:
In this magazine
I read about a queen
Who liked to bounce all day on her trampoline
Can read, can read
A magazine you can read
A magazine's all you need
Then you can read

BOB:
In a newspaper, I
Just read about a guy
Who ate a thousand pieces of pumpkin pie
Can read, can read
A newspaper you can read
A newspaper's all you need
Then you can read

(they all repeat their verses in a round)

BIG BIRD: Read a book ...
SUSAN: .. magazine ...
BOB: ... newspaper ...
ALL: It's great when you ... can ... read!

For those who don't know, I think it's a take off on Guys and Dolls. (I'm not good with my Broadway Musicals outside of Little Shop of Horrors and Rocky Horror)

The song is a spoof of a song called "Can Do" Between the Lions also did a send up of this song....

One additional fact, the "Can Do" song in "Guys & Dolls" also takes place in front of a newsstand.
