Aswell as being a Huge Muppet Fan i'm also a large Friends Fan, there's some discussions going on in actual Friends forum about who you'd rather see together Ross & Rachel or Joey & Rachel.
It case you havn't figured it out i'm a huge, huge, huge Ross & Rachel fan and i hate whats happening with Joey & Rachel, anyway if you want the producers of Friends to know how much you want R&R to get together, please sign this petition http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?7db85lm7
The real reason for this thread is not for the petition but so that we can discuss this problem.
so lets discuss:)

Lord Prawn (if I may be so bold as to name you?), this is a troubling turn of events. I have very strong feelings about this particular subject and I am happy that you addressed it.
Let me start off by saying that my wife and I have the first three seasons of this '90's standard on DVD. In fact, we have a little over a dozen tapes capturing every possible Friends moment for future viewing pleasure. In other words, we are fans...to say the least.
Unfortunately, neither of us have been too interested in this last season and are even less interested in the upcoming one. I may even go so far as to say that we are a little outraged, though that is a pretty harsh term, at the prospect of one lat season.
Let's face it, they have taken these characters about as far as they can go and now they've gone all Soap Opera on their fans just to squeeze out another year. I am, to say the least, disappointed.
In light of that my friend, and while I applaud your noble efforts, I will not sign this pettion, but I do thank you for a forum in which to vent my frustration.
Man I need to get a life :smirk:

That's okay, no need to sign the petition (it's not mine anyway) i'm just glad to see another Muppets/Friends fan on here aswell as your views on this.
I for one am totally  i didn't really mind it when Joey liked Rachel (although the thought of him liking one of his best friends ex-wife who at the time was carrying his child did bother me I still enjoyed the storyline and was ever so pleased when Rachel turned him down but now with Rachel wanting to go out with him (in a school girl way) i't bothers me.
I'm from the UK so i havn't seen season fianle yet (we're still on 821) but from the spoilers i read i can say i'm going to be very sick.
I mean whats the point of the last nine years, what was the point of Ross saying Rachel at the alter and the biggest of them all what was the point of Emma?
As i said i'm from the UK here we have until episode 912 on DVD and video and are waiting for the rest in July (21st if anyone cares to know) so the other day i watched the one with Ross' Wedding and i remember the first time i saw that i was a mess all summer and i was so excited but know thinking that R&R might never happen doesn't give me that same feeling anymore. Years from now i want to watch an episode a day and i'd hate to watch it knowing that everything happening between R&R is a waist of my time as at the end she ended with Joey.
But i have faith, i'll watch the show, in case you didn't know, during Season Eight they thought it was their last season, that's why we saw this slight inprovment with R&R relationship. I believe the writers were getting ready to hook them up, which if you think about it could have very easily have happened and yet have been realistic, then they (the writters) learned that they would have another season so they gave us that stupid cliffhanger with the misunderstanding proposal, then they thought Season 9 would be it so they quickly got rid of the J&R problem getting ready to reunite R&R as all signs in 901 pointed to that but then yet again they learned they have another season (and this is definatley the last with only 18 episodes, the 18th being a two hour long finale) so they gave us yet another J&R cliffhanger because the writters knows how much this upsets alot of people. So i believe that although this cliffhanger is a difficult one to get out of, i still believe that by season 10 R&R will be together unless there's a season 11 which i highly doubt, although i doubt the series can end with Ross & Joey being best Freinds as they were and this show is called FRIENDS i think the writers know what they're doing.
I'm so tired of writting, just one more thing to say
If J&R do end up together i will be very dissapointed with the writers as this is what i'd call poor writing but if R&R do get together then i will applaud them because lets face it even when Ross was getting ready to marry Emily we all knew it wouldn't last because she wasn't one of the regular six (that's why Pheobe's future husband Mike (i think) has come so late into the season because he's just a guest star) that's why so many people believe the show ending with R&J is a possibility.
I just can't understand why some peole prefer J&R over R&R it just doesn't make sense but to be honest i really want R&R to end up together but i wouldn't be dissapointed if Rachel ended up alone, latley she's been turning into a real ***** :)
that's all... for now

I vote Rachel and Brad Pitt.
Oh wait...
Seriously though, I prefer Rachel and Joey over Rachel and Ross. Being parents of the same kid aside, Joey and Rachel are better together than her and Ross. Ross is too nerdy.

Well, I'm not a huge fan of the show, but, I do watch ocassionally.
I have to say, first, my favorite character on the show is Joey, so, I'm rooting for him and Rachel. Not Ross and Rachel. His being my favorite character on the show isn't the only reason for this, though. I mean, Ross had his chance. He had several chances. He's blown every single one of them. And, of all the characters on the show, he's the one I most suspected of being gay.
I was EXTREMELY upset about Pheobe picking that Mike guy over Hank Azaria's character. Next to Joey, he was my favorite.
All-in-all, I'd have to agree with DirthNader. The show's become waaaaay too Soap Opera like recently...

Yes, i agree totally with that, the writters have over used the will they wont they get back together storyline alot, even if R&R did get together i don't think i'd have the same feeling as back in Season 3, with that said i still wish Ross gets Rachel. Joey is like the ladies man, he gets all the girls (He got Charlie before Ross) and i'd hate the show if they put Joey with Rachel, that means looks (as many woman i've heard say about him) win over brains, and Ross has been hurt so much, he doesn't live with his son Ben nor with Emma, he's been married and divorced Three times and has never really hurt anyone. If he and Rachel were to get together we could see his third divorce not counting (you know what i mean) since he'd be with Rachel (His ex-wife) he'd be living with Emma, one of his children and he'd have gotten which in my opinion is the love of his life.
Now in all fairness i don't think J&R make a bad couple, but it's like saying i prefer MT characters over TMS ones, The MT characters might be better but we're just so used to TMS characters that although we could accept the fact that the MT characters are better we wouldn't like it because we've been used to TMS characters. Does any of that make sense
ps. I prefer TMS characters with the inclusion of , Johnny & Sal

I too am a HUGE friends fan and I was an avid Ross and Rachel-er. All through Joey's crush on her I kept wishing for her and Ross because I also always thought Joey would end up with Phoebe. However, after the season finale, I have to say I changed my mind a bit. It just seemed like everything fell into place. I also think the writers made Rachel act slightly more juvenille during it so we would see her as being better for Joey. And then it was obvious how much Ross and Charlie have in common. Anyway, after the finale I was pleased with what had happened. But even so, watching a re-run of Emma's birth where Ross and Rachel kiss brought back some of my R&R feelings. So to end my ramblings, I think the writers have set up three couples and I don't think they'll change because then someone will end up alone.
Ps. I liked David but I liked Mike alot too. That was a hard decision.

I too always though Joey would end up with Pheobe, ever since The One With The Two Parts (I think that was the episode title) where Joey thinks Pheobe is Ursula (Her twin) and Kisses her.
Although Joey is getting a spin-off show most probably and they couldn't hook him up with Pheobe cause she wouldn't be in the spin-of, anyway this rumoured Joey spin-off show is what's giving me hope that at the end R&R will be together.

And the One with all the Birthdays...I don't know if that's the title, but the one where Phoebe is trying to get a bunch of stuff accomplised before her 30th birthday including having the perfect kiss and then Joey gives it to her. That was so sweet and happy!

oh I know what you mean, The One Where They All Turn Thirty, that one is actually quite recen (well not really) it's from Season 7, they both have this great chemistry together except that they are both kind of dumb, Pheobe not so much as Joey but it would have been cool to have all six paired of, actually that is what i thought would happen when i first started watching the show.

Phoebe is my fave, Joey is muh 2nd fave. And there were SOOOO many li'l hints over the years that they secretly woulda liked bein' together, and all these li'l flirtatious shenanigans.
But now Phoebe's gonna get married (I like Mike, but still, poor David...), and I guess we can't have P&J (no "B"---get it, PB&J? Haha--okay, nevermind), so if Phoebe can't be with him, it just ain't right for anyone else too. They woulda been cool together.

What's happened was (i read it in an interview with one of the produces somewhere) that they did the Joey like's Rachel storyline only to postpone an R&R get together but they had no idea what a big fan base J&R would recieve so now they're stuck.
Although i still think this is the writers way of really surprising us with an R&R reunion, think about it if Rachel was in the exact same situation she is with Joey but with a guy outside of their group would we really be worried about an R&R get together?

Yeah, I know about all the Chandler/gay jokes, but, Ross is the one who acts, looks, talks, etc etc etc gay! My brother keeps saying that Joey and Ross are gonna end up together (something that always gets me mad).
I like the idea of Joey ending up with Pheobe. That'd be neat. Just, with the way it's set up now, I figure it should be Joey and Rachel, Pheobe and Hank Azaria's character (he's soooooo much better than that stupid Mike guy!).

I thought some of you might be intrested to know about this, especially if like me you're an R&R fan.
The early draft of the season 10 opener has been revealed and I would like to say I feel it is such an anticlimax. (But aren't all the season openers). After Joey goes into Rachel's room, they kiss and lie on the bed but then Rachel stops and says it doesn't feel right. Then the scene cuts to Ross saying the same thing to Charlie. There is no mention of either Ross & Rachel saying it doesn't feel right because they still have feelings for each other, it's just obvious that's the reason. I feel this season is going to be the worst because they have so many loose ends to tie up in 16 episodes. E.g. the writers have to get Ross & Rachel back together, Monica & Chandler have to go through the baby process. Phoebe has to get married to Mike and they have to prepare Joey for a spin off. So it's a lot to get done in 16 episodes. But we'll see, after seeing the plot of the first ep in season 10 it lacks originality and I feel
This came from AInt It Cool News
I doubt it's true, it's probably fake but you never know, i really wish it'd be true but it such an easy escape from the storyline, I think that now that the writers have gone this deep they should get out of it in a more difficult way rather than the one posted above.

The only reason Frasier was so good, is because Kelsey Grammer had them redefine the whole character. If you notice, Frasier is almost never found in a bar anymore. His whole character has almost totally been changed from what he was on Cheers.

Well, not entirely. I'd like to see Joey end up with someone, but, it makes sense for Rachel and Ross to end up together.
King Prawn
06-11-2003, 07:12 PM
I'd also like to see Joey end up with someone but i think they really need to give him a spin-off show so that we find it realistic when he finallys ettles down, if there's no spin-off then they should get Joey into a seriouse relation ship but unless it's Pheobe who he's know for so long then I don't see it happening, they only have eighteen episodes left, they have to deal with the R&R&J storyline, so once they resolve it (half way during the season i'd think cause this is huge) he can then start dating someone but would we believe Joey would end up with that person if there's no proposal or anything.
The writers have left everything to the end and wanting to resolve it near the end now it seems like they don't have time.
Did everything above make sense
ps. if Joey does end up with Rachel then we'd have Ross all alone, which i believe is the one character that shouldn't end up alone (considering his past).

Personally, I'd like to see Gunther get Rachel. He declared his love to her once before, but it's been such a long time, she may have forgotten all about it.
As for Chandler and Monica, I have heard that they are going to adopt a baby next season due to their infertility (Monica's body kills off Chadler's little soldiers).
Mike has agreed to live with Pheobe, but he is still against marriage because of his former wife. Where would that leave them by the end of next season? Married or broken up once more? Personally, I think Pheobe should have stuck with David, or perhaps Sean Penn should return as the teacher who fell for her sister, but saw more in Phebes and started to love her more. That would be interesting...to see Pheobe end up besting Ursala for a change!
As for the rest of the group, I don't know what will happen. But I'm hoping something like this may...
I'm hoping Ross will meet a young lady who works in the paleo department at the museum where he now works, and the two of them will realize that they both have had bad marriages, two kids and lots of bad relationships. They will fall in love because they are both dinosaur nuts (and since Charlie couldn't make up her mind about Joey or Ross, she returned to wherever she came from) and they are both doctors in the subject. Ross will never realize that he has finally met himself in female form, but they will be deliriously happy and marry before the end of the season...
Joey? Well, Joey is Joey. As Dr. Drake Ramorey on "Days," I am hoping he will go on one of those "fan tours" and meet the girl he is destined to be with...somewhere in the Midwestern plains states, far from New York. Then he will leave and live on a farm somewhere outside Tulsa, where Chandler will become president of the company he works for and Monica will be a stay-at-home mom who ends up shipping out gormet cheesecakes just like she made in NYC and making a fortune...
Oh...sorry. Got carried away there, didn't I?
Well, one can dream...

That would be the BEST way to end it! I mean, Friends is SUPPOSEDLY a comedy, right? So you end it like that! She marries Gunther! There is no funnier way you could end the show!
But, they're not going to do it. I tell ya', that show is just too predictable. Ever since Rachel got pregnant, it's been very predictable.

Well I think or I hope that the following happens...
I hope this whole Joey wanting to be with Rachel misunderstanding is cleared up (yes in my book it's a misunderstanding) and it is possible for Ross & Rachel to hook up in episode 1, that's what i actually wrote in my post and explanation of the story line. I also hope we find out Monica is pregnat with Twins so that if she's never able to stay pregnant again then she has two (a Boy & a Girl).
I would hope for Joey & Pheobe to hook up but i'm not seeing this happening, so if Pheobe & Mike could get married in the last episode of Season 10, with R&R together but not married then the writers could really shock us by having Ross propose to Rachel right after Pheobe's and Mike walk down the aisle (is it with an a?) Rachel will say yes and then JOEY will ask if he could marry them right there right now (as he is able to do so) this shows that the show Friends is actually made up of Friends and everybody is happy.
Sorry i forgot about Joey, after R&R get together he leaves for Hollywood to try and make it big, he then returns in the next episode as though it's been a week or two and sad by the fact that nothing happened for him, Rach then tells him about a friend she had which now works in Hollywood and she might be able to get him an audition, she does so and Joey gets the part.
So in the two hour finale, we have Monica & Chandler getting ready to go and adopt (it would be cool if they went through with it and then found out they were pregnant) but then Monica learns she's pregnat, Pheobe and Mike get married and surprise R&R get married too and Joey struggles with time to make it too Pheobe's wedding before having to leave, it then all ends with everybody at Central Perk, Joey leaves for his plane and they all share a big goodbye, Pheobe & Mike leave, then R&R&Emma leave leaving Mon & Chandler all alone, then suddenly a woman enters and goes up to Monica, Monica is shocked to see her and says something like "Piggy (have no idea what name to use) what are you doing here", Piggy then replies "I just found out my husband was cheating on me and I need a place to stay" Chandler will then say something like "Here we go again".
that's all, maybe i'll work up the courage to re-write evrything i wrote last time (well atleast what i remembere)
ps. No smiles in this post and i've copied it too

Geeze, Pepe, I like your season!
But would Joey meet the young lady that Rachel mentioned on the plane to Hollywood? I would hope so. I'd kind of like to see it go like this:
Mystery woman: "Excuse me, is this seat 4C?"
Joey: "Yes...how YOU doin'?" (this is a nice looking woman, so his interest is piqued)
MW: "Oh, fine, heading for my job in Hollywood." (she hands Joey her overhead luggage which he places above for her, they both sit)
J: "Really? Me, too." (He settles down again in his seat, leaning back and getting comfortable)
MW: "Yes, I was visiting my friend, Rachel, in NYC. She's just gotten engaged to a nice gentleman named Ross, and they have a cute little girl. She's just adorable." (she starts rummaging in her briefcase)
J: "Oh, yeah? You know, I have a friend named Ross. He just got engaged, too. To my friend Rachel. They have a little girl named Emma. She's a real sweetie." (he looks at her with interest, then leans back again)
MW: "Oh, really? Do you think they could be the same people?" (she looks at him closely for the first time and likes what she sees, but she is like Joey...not totally quick in the "making connections" department)
J: "Oh, the chances of that are pretty rare. I mean, how many people are named Ross Geller and Rachel (whatever) with a kid named Emma who live in New York? I mean, come on, heheheheh..." (his eyes are closed and he is gettting tired, so he's starting to nod off)
MW: "Yes, but you know, the man my friend is engaged to is a Ross Geller...and her baby's name is Emma..." (she, too, is now comfortable and decides to put her seat back, closing her eyes)
Joey and the young women will then sit for a couple minutes with their eyes closed and smiles on their faces (remembering their friends), then both of their eyes will fly open, they sit up suddenly and they will point at each other and go, "Oooooh!" and smile really big at each other, which is when the camera will fade out on them...
I'd like to see Joey end up like that...on his way to Hollywood with someone just like him that he will end up being with for a long time...
As for Monica and Chandler, I'd like to see them get the word that yes, they can adopt a young boy or girl, about the age of two or three, and then when they bring him/her home, they get a call from the doctor saying that she is pregnant with their own child. This way they do have both a boy and a girl, but one is their own biological child and one is the one they loved and adopted. Of course, it would be nice if they adopted a little girl and they have a little boy (that way it carries on the Bing blood-line, but an adopted child can do the same thing just as well as a biological one).
Mike and Phoebe getting married? A possibility, but I still like the idea of her and David getting together. I don't know...Mike seems too unsure of himself and his willingness to be in a relationship that would end in marriage. I don't know if she'd really be happy with him in the long run...
While I don't mind Ross and Rachel getting married, especially for their child and the fact that Rachel is the one Ross has cared for since high school, I'm not sure if Rachel is totally committed. Perhaps we could have Ross ex-wife from London come back into the picture for a short time, saying that she made a big mistake letting him go over her jealousy about Rachel, and Rachel FINALLY realizes that Ross IS the one for her? I mean, she is still all over the page with her feelings...and I STILL think it would be fun if Gunther asked her to marry him. Talk about unrequited love...

I think David is definitely gone for good. He didn't seem to fight very much for her when Mike showed up again in the finale. He was just like "oh well, bye then." That's how I felt it was at least and that's why I didn't feel as bad for him as I normaly would have because I always liked David too.

I too liked David (although I liked Mike much more) but after that nothing aof a fight he put up for Pheobe I just don't like him anymore.
