View Full Version : MuppetFest 2?
Hi!
Sorry if this is the wrong board, or if this has been discussed to death, but this is my first post.
With that disclaimer made, does anyone know what plans there are for another MuppetFest? I still can't stop thinking about how much fun the first one was!
Thanks,
Tera

No word... yet. Hopefully we'll hear something positive soon. The last one was great!
Maybe we need to start lobbying Henson and Creation? Send a few emails, something like that? I know there were problems last time and the time and location change probably cut into profits-- but that was a very unusual circumstance and I'm sure even more people would attend the next MuppetFest.

Hi Tera,
Yeah, MuppetFest really was just the coolest weekend wasn't it? I must think about a MuppetFest 2 at least once a week. The thought that keeps giving me hope is that at the end of the final panel, everyone said to the audience, "See you next year!"; remember?
I'm hoping it's in New York this year for a change of locale, but I'm going wherever it is. I hope they do another Muppet Show Live, too. I'd gladly go hoarse for another couple days to show my support of those guys and just how well-done that show was: script, directing, stars, mood, etc. I'd have to say that given some of the more recent Henson productions that have just not lived up to the hey-day (Jack and the Beanstalk, Muppets From Space), The Muppet Show Live was they best thing they've done in a decade.
I agree that we should start poking Henson and Creation about what their pans are for this year.
I think they'll probably go for Summer 2003 - makes sense. There isn't enough time now to do it this Summer. Could be christmas again but i thought that all the Henson people wanted it to be a Summer thing originally.
I think this is the best policy because this Summer you've got all the Sci-Fi conventions happening for the Star Wars and other Sci-Fi releases. Also then you'd have the next convention while the Muppet series was on Fox so tons of extra publicity there - it would be HUGE !
It'd be cool if they started planning for a Muppetfest 2003 NOW rather than just rush it again (although obviously the date confusion wasn't their fault) - even more REALLY special stuff to top the last one. I'm definitely in !

I vote Florida for this year's location. I'd like somewhere nice & sunny. Plus, NY scares me. Even before 9/11 it scared me- now it just scares me a little more. Sad but true.
I didn't get the chance to go to the first one, but I'm going to make every effort to go to the second one, no matter WHERE they decide to have it!!
I'd love either NY or FL for the next one.
I can take a train to NY and I live in FL. Oh, if it was on FL I'd save plane fare and be able to spend ALL that $ on Muppet Merchandise! OOHHHH!
(Not that I need any more stuff yet; I still haven't finished framing my stuff from last year. But I do open the box and look at my eyeball every week.)
I think lobbying Henson and Creation for news is a great plan. I'll send out an email soon. Anyone else going to send them?

Realistically speaking, I think it is likely to stay in LA or NYC. Simply because there are celebs to draw from for chairty tie-in events and in LA you have the Henson lot with all those employees and resources and in NY you have Sesame Workshop and so forth. Just seems like it would be easier on Henson to stick with those locations.
Of course we'd all love for MuppetFest II to be held near us, but really, all that matters is that they have a MuppetFest II.
I'm gunna send emails tomorrow to both Henson and Creation telling them how much I enjoyed the first one and begging for a second.

Im going to have to go with my original gut feeling...
Muppetfest 2002, NYC Fall of this year(whether that be Sept, Oct, Nov, or Dec Im not sure)
While LA would be more feasable for me, for a change of pace and for all the east coast/midwestern, and european/elsewhere fans I'd love to see it in NY.

hopefully we'll hear by july!

When I went to email Creation, I couldn't find a good address. All the email addresses listed on their site were really specific (tickets, fan club kids, order status). So I'm going with an actual letter. It takes more effort, but it also shows more committment. So, if someone comes upon an appropriate email addy, please post it. In the mean time, here's the address and phone and fax in case any LA locals want to really bug them:
Creation Entertainment
1010 N. Central Ave. 4th Floor
Glendale, CA 91202
Phone: (818) 409-0960
Fax: (818) 409-0827
Same with Henson-- can't find email addresses on the new site (not that I tried very hard)
Jim Henson Company
1416 North La Brea Avenue
Hollywood, CA 90028
Jim Henson Company
117 East 69th Street
New York, NY 10021
If we all send an occasional letter now and then start sending them more frequently down the line.....

I, too would like to see a Muppet fest 2, having missed the first one....(stifles a cry).. but I hope it's not too soon. Why, you ask? I have no money! This art school thing eats ya alive! I spent well over 200 dollars on paint alone!!! But enough of that. I'd vote for Massacusetts, mainly because I wouldn't have to take an airplane (no money, I repeat, and ever since 9/11, I'm afraid to fly) I'd take a train, but I didn't like the news about the latest AMTRACK crash! I'm sorry!! This kinda sounds greedy! If it comes up very soon, and even if it was on the moon, I'd try to go next time!

I hope there is one; I'm missing Scott, Matt, Nick, and Lori!
And Muley wants to go again this year, but to a Muppet Central Puppet Fans Dinner, where puppet fans of the Muppets can come and enjoy the evening!
And maybe THIS year, I'll get to play with the Fozzie Bear puppet on the stage...

While i don't have any news on MF2, for those who are interested, it looks like the third Farscape con will be in November...which is good if a second MF is done in Sept as those wanting to attend both might not have to choose between them.

Hi Everyone,
Since I had tickets for Muppet Fest in September but allready had plans for the weekend of the rescheduled dates that I JUST WANT THERE TO BE A MUPPET FEST 2 so I can hopefully meet some of the wonderful people at Henson that have given so much pleasure to my life that I will be there regardless of what state it is in.
Bye,

I ditto your statement.
In reality, the Henson folk are some great and nice people, but with the throng of thousands there they don't get much time as I'm sure they'd enjoy taking to be with their fans. They are kind enough to stop and sign something or take a picture.
One of MY Fave things was the MC get-together! It was so GREAT to meet all my MC Family that I'm certainly looking forward to another MuppetFest for the whole fan-boy purpose, but also for the next MC Family Reunion!

I've loved the Muppets long before I can remember. And when I heard about Muppetfest I was extatic! Sadly enough, I did not attend the affair because of ssome minor complications. (long story we won't go there)
I can only hope and pray there will be a Muppetfest 2. I will most certainly be there. BUT surprisingly enough, I'm not a very outspoken person and therefore would not be able to get out there and..do stuff ya know? I can't bring any of my friends because they all think I'm nuts for dedicating an entire room of my house to the Muppets. (a bit obssesive maybe...but can you blame me?) Anyways, regaurdless, weather I'm standiung out in the parking lot of the soon to be determined location, or actually making contact with one of the Muppets I so adore, I will be there. :) see you all at the next Muppetfest!!!!:D

You just posted that stuff in the wrong place, because if we get to have a second MuppetFest, I'm going to gather my friends together from the last one, and we're going to drag you around with us and make you come out of that shell.
I'm sure you don't want me to do to you what I do with my turtle to get him out of his shell. It involves a warm, wet Qtip and his bottom!!

Hi Kev,
Michael posted over on Toughpigs.com (this is from memory) that he had heard from Henson that Muppetfest 2 IS definitely being organised for the East coast, and an announcement will be made very soon. Oh and that it is looking very much like an October date.
I've heard that they are going to try to cram one in before the company gets sold because from then on its obviously more uncertain.

Hey, I said there'd be a muppetfest 2002 eminating from the east coast this fall back in December! Just an obvious thing, but it looks like it is finally taking shape now!(btw, muppetfest 1 news came in mid june, so we should be hearing more about it in 3 weeks or so)

I will most likely be attending if I can work a few bugs out of my plan (like getting money to go, making sure that I won't miss too much in my classes, finding a way to get to NY, and not having my parents freak out over the idea).
However, I am totally excited just at idea of going.

I was just thinking that myself. Seems to be true, we are pretty "perdicable" about getting off topic.
Then again, we're Muppet fans...
Umm, I think we were talking about MF2 and then I asked who all would be going and you said you'd go if you could and then...
"Fozzie, stop. Don't tell them everything, you'll bore the audience, just let them read the script!"
...so, we discussed your 19.5 birthday as we approached the thundrously loud music of the Electric Mayhem and now we're here.
Narrative of very heavy duty proportions? I think not, but at least we're having fun.

Since it seems there will indeed be a MuppetFest II (Yea!!!:D ) and Creation/Henson were so good about sending their spies here to see what we wanted at MuppetFest I, I thought we should start putting together our requests. So...
List your top three for Muppet Fest II here. That is, the three Muppets you most want to see, the three Henson folk you most want to attend, the three panels you most want.... pick any category and list your top three.
Here are some of mine:
Muppets:
1) Rowlf (definitely number one for me as he wasn't at MuppetFest last time-- just the live Muppet Show)
2 & 3) I figure there's no way to have Muppet Fest without Kermit, so I don't have to list him. Which makes my other two Gonzo and the Sesame Street gang (or at least more represntatives of Sesame Street than just Elmo)
Henson Folk:
1) Carroll Spinney
2) Frank Oz
3) Dave Goelz
Muppet Fest Stuff (couldn't think of a better name for this):
1) Pictures with Muppets! Set up a photographer and let us sign up for times to come pose for a picture with Kermit (it could be one of the poseable dolls used for stills). Creation could make money by selling us the pictures (a la school picture packages or amusement park pics). If that can't be done, how about letting us have our picture taken in the Muppet Show sign? It doesn't have to be THE Muppet Show sign-- a piece of plywood cut and painted appropriately would be great.
2) Breaks during the days so we can get something to eat and visit the museum without missing anything on stage)
3) Facility upgrade-- meaning better food options that stay open through the entire event, better sound system, play area for young kids (preferably with closed-circuit TV so parents can see what is going on on-stage while they give their kids a chance to make noise and maybe play with some toys) and bathrooms with changing tables,
Repeats from last time:
1) Muppet Museum-- with different exhibits from last time-- and ears on Piggy both days ;)
2) Autographs
3) Q & A with the Muppets and Muppet performers!!! (clearly, this category is NOT in order of importance)
Panels:
1) Sesame Street
2) Fraggle Rock
3) The new Fox Muppet Series
Gold Package:
1) Live Muppet Show!
2) Live Muppet Show!!
3) Live Muppet Show!!!
Wow-- Muppet Fest II! Hope to see everyone there!
Jackie

My MuppetFest 2 wishlist:
Muppeteers:
1. Bill Barretta
2. Dave Goelz
3. Carroll Spinney
4. All the others
Q & A Wishlist:
1. More Brian Henson with Sal. It was so funny to watch Brian holding Sal's mouth closed while he spoke - as if to make sure Sal didn't say anything inappropriate.
2. Beaker and Rowlf with appropriate muppeteers
3. More Pepe - by far and away the best Q & A participant. The character just begs for live interaction.
Other Stuff:
1. I'd love for Jane Henson to be in attendance again. The Grand Dame of Muppetdom was wonderful and inspiring the first time round.
2. If Frank Oz can come - not even to perform, just to appear so we can thank him for everything he has done.
3. I'd love Dave Goelz to sing my daughter a lullaby again. That was the highlight of the last show for me.
4. Another Muppet Show Live, so I can see it this time.
5. Another great MuppetCentral get together.
Hope to see you all at MuppetFest 2!

OOh, now this is an exciting thread! Its long been thought Mfest 2002 would eminate from NY, so one thing is for sure:
SESAME STREET! It was all but ignored at mfest 2001, with the exception of Elmo(who I think proved his coolness right up there with the rest of the muppets) This mean Carrol Spinney!!!
We want Big Bird, Oscar, Bert, Ernie, grover, etc!!!
Second, this is the 20th annv of fraggle rcok...so no 10 minute fr panels...lets see some refurbished fraggles!
It goes without saying we need Pepe(who stole the show as usual) but also heavy on the Beaker, Rowlf, and even Scooter.
I'd like to see some time given to Mo Frackle to, as he had an impressive debut with the feud.
It also goes without saying, BRAVO to Eric Jacobsson!!!
WOW...his Piggy is astonishing in my book, as it has provoked a much heated 'so was it oz or eric' discussions on here.
Finally, I think mfest 2002 is going to be quite special.
I think this is finally the grand re emergence year of the Muppets weve talked about for so long, so Im hoping the turnout will be huge this time around.
So folks...dont be whining about missing out on muppetfest 2002 this fall...start saving those pennies and hold back on spur of th emoment purchases. I WANT TO SEE EACH AND EVERYONE of you MC folks at mfest 2002!!!
Lastly, while some may have had reservations about the structuring of mfest 2001, and the less than stellar venue...one this is for sure, the Muppets in person, muppeteers, and other JHC folks blew us all away. And I cant even put into words how great the live show was...as I can only imagine what they have planned for this years mfest!

okay top three things i want to see at muppet fest two
1. a sesame street sing along with a specail aperiance either by chrisy and the alpahabets or little jerry and the monotones!

3. you guys!:)

Here's my list:
Muppeteers (No Particular Order):
-- Jerry Nelson!
-- Bill Barretta... :D
-- Dave Goelz
-- Steve Whitmire (I'll be nice and I WON'T bring scissors)
Panel Things:
-- Fraggle Rock. Because I love Fraggle Rock, and you got the whole 20th Anniversary thing goin' on.
-- Sesame Street. If MF is in New York, then you got the whole Sesame Street thing goin' on. But not too much. It really depends on what it would be (if they show us classic clips that's one thing, but if they bring out Baby Bear for 30 minutes, that's called a bathroom break).
-- Richard Hunt clips or something. I think the last MF had a tribute thing to Jim Henson (I don't know, I wasn't there). Since MF is a fan kind of event, it can be expected that a lot of fans will attend. Hopefully, unlike the general public (and outside our Internet Muppet circles), fans don't ask, "Who's Richard Hunt?" Actually, I have no idea where I'm going with this explanation, so I hope I've made it clear. Just show us a few Scooter clips or something. :D
And as for stuff that I'd like to see that was from last year's MF... Since I didn't go, I have no idea what worked, and what didn't work. But, you gotta keep the autograph sessions and the live show.
And my final comment to the Henson/Creation spies. Give me free tickets! (please)

Ok I'll play!!
Top 3 puppeteers
1. Jerry Nelson!!
2. Carroll Spinney. If it's n NY thereis a pretty good chance of tis one.
3, Jerry uhl. Ok, I know he's not technically a puppeteers, but it would be really great to see him.
Top 3 Muppets:
1. Floyd!! (Big Floyd Pepper dfan. Also, a few other Jeryry characters would be cool! count, and lew Zealand in particualr.
2. I'd like to see Beau.
3. fraggles would be good
I can't comment on panles and things too much cause I wasn't at the last one. but tis raises a good questoin. Do you think the Henson gang overplayed their hand? I mean, if MF was so great last year, do you think there will be anough to raise the stakes alitle or do you think repeaters will walk out goin "eh, I had a better time last year" So if I may alter this thread a bit. (assuming there are spies among us) hpw do you think Henson can raise the stakes. Are there enough storiesto keep panels going? What was missed last time? And can you do it so folks who didn' t make it last year, aren't feeling left out in the cold? What do you think?
--Matt
ps: Oh, if they do another exhibit, I think I would like to see a few more guys in there. From the photos I saw I was a little disappointed actually.
Ladies, you better hope that Dave and Steve DON"T read this thread.. otherwise you'll scare them away from Muppetfest for sure!

I'm sure i'll have more ideas when i have a chance to ponder them more but these are just some off-the-top-pf-my-head things.
I would like to see more Sesame representation but not disproportionately heavy. I can understand why Sesame got short-shrift at MF1:
(1) The focus was on the Classic Muppets and TMS 25 Anniversary - enough people already confuse the two casts.
(2) With the Sesame characters now owned by Sesame Workshop it gets into a fuzzier area (no pun intended) when one celebrates the works of The Jim Henson Company.
Now having said that, since this year, the TMS 25th Anniversary will be over - this will truly be a total fan convention (they may think of some other "theme" but really this is the convention that basically says "the fan base is large and devoted enough now to where an official convention can be a recurring thing rather than a one-off"). So it would be nice - especially given the East Coast angle - to include Sesame more to some extent. Don't know i'd want Sesame to be the main theme or ultimate focus, but still they should be represented. Perhaps some rare clips that hasn't aired anywhere in ages (ie classic clips that have not made their way to the Noggin programs). I would certainly love to see some Mr Hooper clips (perhaps some tributes to Will Lee & N Calloway). I would also love to see first through third season clips - "Yellow Submarine", "Subway", "One Way", the "Surprise song" (from the mid 70's but still an old time fave rare gem!)...several green Grover clips!
More than anything though, i would like to see more representation of the "East Coast based" Muppeteers - the panels at MF1 were mostly chosen to represent the Classic Muppet performers - but i would very much love to see participation from and panels with people like Fran Brill (please please PLEASE!), David Rudman (another must - speaking as the unofficial president of the David Rudman Fan Club!), Joey Mazzarino, Caroll Spinney, Martin Robinson, and Camille Bonora. Yes there are others that could and probably should go in there (Stephanie, Pam, Matt...) but those are really the "Must Haves" - and then if i had to narrow it down to three, i'd choose Fran, David, and Camille (Caroll's got a lot of "votes" already and seems a bit of a no-brainer so i want to speak up for those who i feel are essential but could still be overlooked.)
One unique thing about MF2 is that it will still be just on the verge of the full break-out of the "Muppet Renaissance" - yes, there will have been all the merchandise from the 25th Anniversary and more public consciousness but still just before anyone will have seen the NBC movie or Fox series - that won't occur until Number 3 - so MF3 should REALLY be the big explosion - MF2 though will still mainly be the hardcore "core" Muppet fans that have supported them throughout.
What that also means though, is that they'll also still be working on such things as the Fox series (i would trust the film would be in post-production by then, but you never know.) MF1 was especially notable because - all Muppet bias aside - it really set the standard for fan conventions...the people that we were celebrating were all very active participants to a degree that far surpasses most official fan conventions - throughout the day convention itself and especially the live show. A lot of that was the unique non-Hollywood/star system mentality that exists within Henson, but also at that time, the company was not really working on a lot of other projects at the time and it was easier to concentrate on the live show. What i'm getting around to saying is, as deeply appreciative i remain for the level of work that went into MF1, i don't feel it's of paramount importance that Henson should be under pressure to "top" the first one (that's not saying they shouldn't try to put on the best fest possible of course.) For example, if it comes down to the preperations for a live show taking attention/energy away from working on making the television series the best it can be, i would urge them to put the attention on the series...something that everyone will be seeing (and they very much need a successful series now - both in terms of ratings and quality). There's a lot of "dream" things i'd love to see - but my ultimate wish for Henson as a fan is that they continue to do the best work they can as a company...anything done for MF is just a nice little added extra!
...Now of course there exists to what i just said the flip side of the coin that by putting on another show and pulling out all the stops again that it may further inspire Henson to better work on the series and such since they have direct feedback of what the fans love and have what makes them so unique in mind...but like i say, i just want to see them put on the best fest they can for this particular time with the resources/energy they're able to devote to it. If it doesn't "top" the first one, that's fine (does anything ever top the original?), it will still be its own unique entity that will not disappoint anyone who doesn't enter it with those preconceived notions. If there's no live show for example, it may be a little disappointing, but not heartbreaking under the circumstances.

SESAME OUTTAKES!!!
They are out there. They exist and if you've never seen them...they're hilarious!! If there is a panel on SS then by all means there needs to be some SS outttakes.

1.
I'd like to see Frank Oz there, this time he has no excuse if it's in NY, but watch he'll be in CA this time... I'd be happy if he came for just an hour out of 2 days. Maybe Frank can tell us what's going on and introduce his replacements (Rudman, etc).
2.
Fraggle characters, a panel with the muppeteers and the Fraggles, and they have to sing at least one song!
3.
classic Sesame Street characters, Ernie, Bert, Oscar, Big Bird, the Count, that'd be awesome.

WOW! I dont think I Could have articulated that one better DW!
Youre right, I think the Muppet Rennaissance(or the road to the Muppets return to glory) will definately be into full swing by muppetfest 2. I do think Fran Brill, Carrol Spinney, Rudman are a must, but DEFINATELY Eric Jacobson. The dream would of course be Oz, so ya never know. And DW you madea great point...what other fan convention has there been where virtually the ENTIRE people and stuff the convention is about is on hand? Youre lucky if background people from star wars and billy dee show up at a Lucas star wars con. And even then ya wont see a live star wars thing. IF they did a live show, I can just imagine what they would have ins tore...a preview of the upcoming fox series? Now that the bunny stain is all but gone, the road is clear for the mother of all 'puppet' shows to rock. Anyways, when that east coast announcement comes this summer...wow. Im sure there will be a flurry of ideas on here soon!
Oh, and yes I would love to see a portion devoted to Sesame, or just an overall intergration on stage. How great it was to see Elmo with classic and new Muppet show characters...I want to see Bear muppets and puppeteers, the whole caboodle!
And of course...the return of Fraggle Rock(even if its just a fraggle or two) While there is the 3 main franchises(Muppet Show, Sesame Street, and BEar) how can you forget the F Rock?
///beaker///
I guess by now anything i say on this thread would hardly be considered original, but here goes:
In addition to ALL the people I saw at the LAST MuppetFest, I'd like to see included:
Jerry Juhl
Frank Oz
Carroll Spinney
Kathryn Mullen
Mike Frith
Terry Agnus
Photo-0ps with puppets is a MUST!

Something we haven't mentioned here (unless I missed it, in which case I apologize) is the band. Everyone seemed to enjoy the Muppet music last year. I'd love to see more of that this year. With a larger variety of songs (someone suggested a Sesame Street sing-along-- GREAT idea, there are a gazillion Sesame songs we all know).
Perhaps this could even lead to a Muppet Fest CD.....

Well, I seriously doubt Henson is trying to confuse us or withhold information on a fan convention. I suspect plans aren't coming together as quickly as they had hoped. Perhaps the venue they wanted isn't available, or they got side tracked with being sold and losing their chair-- ya know, pesky little details like that.
I am sure they would not have had Kermit and Piggy mention it on national television if they were not fully committed to it.
Also, we should remember that Hollywood Squares tapes its entire season at one time-- it is quite possible that at the time of taping, Henson had every reason to believe Muppet Fest II would be public knowledge and all over the web by the time the episodes aired. Just a thought.

Byron,
You, nor Jackie, nor Emmy said anything about hitching a ride up to MF2 with me and RadioNate. What's wrong, can't you get a chicken and learn how to do plumbing?
Also, Jackie or Emmy one has to win a beauty contest and sing a song and the other has to learn to play piano in a bar.
What'll we do about a band tho?

Didn't ya read the prior posts? RadioNate will bike up from Oxford Mississippi to Memphis, TN, where we'll meet at a local Comedy Club (actually, it's a Hot Wings and Comedy Club on Knight Arnold and Mendenhall), and he'll save my neck from some bad jokes...and thrown vegetables. We'll hop in my car and on the way up, swing thru Kentucky where we'll get you...but you have to learn plumbing and get a chicken. Then, we trudge forth north to Emmy and Jackie (but not necessarily in that order) and we get to MuppetFest2...but, we still need to find the band so we can ride in their bus.
Oh, that, and I need to get a Studebacher!

Yay, I get to "plumb"! :D About that chicken, though---I have a 3-foot-tall stuffed Maleficent dragon, would that work as a substitute? My neighbor's have a dog, but I'd feel kinda bad whackin' 'em over the head with a pot and "borrowin' " it, lol.
And Emmy's much closer to me than ol' Jacks, so maybe we need to train her for the beauty pageant, and let her know to get a white '70s dress and a silvery tiara.
Oh yeah, she's gonna read this...
EMMY! Get a white '70s dress and a silvery tiara!!

Okay then.
In that case, Jackie needs to learn to play pianos a bars hosted by Steve Martin. Hmm, guess that means RadioNate and Emmy have to have dinner that night, then Emmy has to be kidnapped and RadioNate has to save her as well....but first, he and I have to run into the band at a Presbyterian church somewhere in the country along the way to Kentucky, right?

It's interesting that the photos are mostly of the museum and a few hallway shots when a lot of the action was on-stage. It's good to see Piggy with her ears on though!
Lots of people were having trouble taking pictures during the convention because the stage shots appeared very dark. Maybe Creation had the same challenge on-stage.
Fozzie Bear

Notice in the first pic that Piggy has ears? In real-life, she had none. I have photos to prove it. She didn't have them the whole weekend as far as I can remember, and I was in that room several times.

More plush (more of the small Nanco plushes would be great-- Gonzo, Animal, Rizzo....) -- something inexpensive and child-safe so my two year old can have a new Muppet while we are there!
Sweatshirts-- the t-shirts are great, but I'd also like a sweatshirt
More of the nicer collectibles-- like the bottle cork cap things and candle holders from last time
And I'm gunna break my own top three rule and add a fourth--

Well, I just stumled upon this corner of the forum boards. Since I was not around for last years Muppet Fest, :( I will just mention two things I can think of, and leave the major planning to the pros.
1) For a photo op, I am sure they are very leery about letting folks pose with/touch the actual Muppets, so how about the [B] Muppet Show/B] sign, with Gonzo and his trumpet? That way we can stand in front of and slightly below it for a nice effect.
2) Have it in Florida, so all of us west-coast folks can incorporate a trip to Disney MGM and buy even more mupp-stuff without paying eBay fees! LOL
3) - I know i said two, I lied.....
:D A PALISADES EXCLUSIVE :D
Something cool, I see on the list of upcoming figures some exclusives *cough* Floyd Variant *cough* that are not sold as of yet, what's to stop us from buying one and having it all to ourselves?
Just some top of my head ideas

Just wanted to give everyone an update on the current status of MuppetFest 2002 through conversations with the fine people at Creation and Henson.
A Muppet convention this fall won't be happening due to schedule conflicts and the recent company changes going on right now with Henson. Many of you have been waiting to plan vacations and such around this event, so I wanted to pass this info on to everyone as soon as possible.
The good news is that Creation is actively working on MuppetFest 2003 as soon as next Spring, possibly even in early March. The east coast is still the target. New York City is likely but it may be somewhere else as well. Keep in mind anything can change once Henson's new owner is in place.
This new date may be a blessing in disguise as hopefully the company itself will be in a more stable position by next year, and the Fox series may be rolling out the gates around that time if things stay on schedule.

Now that we've had some word from Creation and Henson on MuppetFest II, let's get back to talking about what we want! (If I've gotta wait till March for MuppetFest, I'm gunna do a lot of wishing for neat stuff.)
I'd like a longer MuppetFest day so it can incorporate some breaks. Maybe an evening screening of one of the movies? (If it is in NY, I have to vote for Muppets Take Manhattan.) A break in the middle of the day so everyone can get something to eat without missing anything would be good. Also provide more time to check out things like the museum.
I'd love to see more clips from Sam and Friends and the SNL skits.
How about a little tribute to Richard Hunt? Clips of his characters and like that.
I still want photo ops, but I think the person who posted that Henson might be leery about having all of us handling the Muppets is right. How about just a painted plywood replica of the TMS sign where we can pose with our heads in the O? Maybe a prop trumpet we can hold?
Hey while we're on the subject of plywood, what about a stand up Kermit we can pose with? Like the cardboard presidents you can pose with in DC and movie stars in LA? Or one of those old boardwalk stype plywood things? Ya know, painted to be Kermit and Piggy without heads and you stand behind it and your head in place where their's should be? (Okay, that was very poorly worded, but hopefully someone knows what I mean.)
And of course the Palisades exclusive. Maybe displays of other upcomign merchandise-- like any of the busts that aren't released yet?

At this point, information is all conjecture until we get official confirmations. Even though people like Phil and Danny Horn (http://toughpigs.com) and Michael Dixon (http://kermitage.com) have contacts with people who work for Henson, nothing should really be set in stone until an official announcement is made.
I'm all about a Spring 2003 MuppetFest though. One thing that I'd love to see again is another live Muppet Show, although, I think last year's show was something particulary unique to the first convention and all. On the other hand, why not do it again? If it were anything like the first one, it would be worth the price of the ticket alone.
A tribute to Richard Hunt is an absolute must. His loss gets overshadowed by Jim's far too much.
I'd love to see more fan participation, too. To coincide with MuppetFest II, I think the organizers should hold a presentation of Muppet fan Websites. Sites that pay tribute to the work of the company from various aspects and angles. Not a contest, but rather a chance to submit your site to be approved by Henson and listed in a hand-out to the folks who attend the convention. As has been stated in various online Muppet communities lately, the offerings of Muppet fan sites in relation to fan sites of other medias (ie: Star Trek), have a very little following on the net. This would be a great chance to expose people who are unaware to the presence of the online Muppet fan to a whole new world of Muppet cameraderie.
A diverse online Muppet community, is a healthy online Muppet community. More people who spread out and make fan sites on the net equals more people who are exposed to the world of Muppet Fandom equals more in attendance at Muppet conventions equals higher chaces of future MuppetFests. And where there are conventions being held for Muppets, there is promise for future projects that continue the lineage that started what we're all there for.
Remember when Jerry Nelson asked the audience who there was from MC and about 1/32 of the audience raised their hands? How cool would it be if Brian Henson got up on the stage and said, "Let me be see a show of hands for how many of you are a part of the online Muppet Community"? Bill Sherman's Muppet Home Page, rec.arts.henson+muppets, Muppet Central, Tough Pigs, Kermitage, Muppets Online.... all staples of the online fan community. Everyday, I look forward to seeing this expand and I think Henson's recognition of us, without favor to one portion or another, would be entirely positive for the company, the talent, for us, and for the future of Muppetdom.

Thanks for the update--do you think that you will have another Muppet Central pre-convention party if they do have one in the spring? I wasn't aware of Muppet Central before the first Muppetfest and from what I've read, it sounds like I really missed out.

HOLY COW!!!!! I NEVER thought of this!!! Spring 2003 is absolutely PERFECT!!! To be honest, I think the international people here will have a much better time being able to gather funds and get ready if its in march or around. This is just incredible, thanx so much for posting. I know this is just a rumour, but man...could you guys imagine this???
m u p p e t f e s t 2 0 0 3 ?
what a way to start the year off! itd be like a past, present, and future of muppets, in their 48th year! heck, I can just imagine what palisades and other companies would have in store (like a mini toy fare or e3) the possibilities are endless. between muppet xmas special and other stuff, i forgot how busy jhc is.
oh, to janice0078:

oh that would be a must! unfortunately, i came in a bit to late to the mc get together last year, but luckily there were still a few people left. the MC people are warm and friendly and very personable! Heck, last year Phil and Cindy were giving away tons of free Muppet buttons (by a very cool frgoboy4 design!)
Anyways, if this pans out, this is too cool! I so would love to meet those MC folks that didnt get to be there last year, the new MC folks, and of course the people i met last year! ^_^

While this scoop makes me cautiously happy, I can't help but think "Why not Summer of 2003?"
While I have no idea how many scheduling conflicts and so on, but it would definitely be easier on me. I wouldn't have to worry about missing classes and so on (I am such a nerd!).
However, I don't think that the Creation and JHC people will sit around a table and say, "No, not that weekend. Emmy has finals."
Oh well, we shall all have to wait, see, and hope that there is another MuppetFest...
It probably WILL be Summer of 2003. It's not really a scoop either because a lot of us knew that the likely date was around early Summer of 2003, i think i used to go on about it on the old forum all the time. There was never a real full on attempt at doing Muppetfest this year - sure they would have liked to do it in October and made some effort to get something together for late this year but they have always wanted Summer dates and because the original Muppetfest was so delayed it made doing Summer 2002 an impossibility, plus of course the company (and parent company) is in SUCH a state right now.
Basically the real news was that all attempts at doing something this year have been abandoned and depending on who buys the Henson Company, or what state the company is in if it stays with the present owners, they would LIKE to do something next year, possibly as early as Spring (but it'll likely turn out to be very early Summer). The suggestion that 'planning is underway' (as per the main page) is a little strong because they have no idea whats happening so they can't really plan.
So i guess the news is there but it got candy coated along the way and thats probably a good thing because it puts a positive spin on things rather than 'Henson Gives Up On Plans For Mupetfest 2002'. I don't think theres any need to start raving about Muppetfest or starting threads planning on which Muppet thong you'll be wearing to the party - nothing has really changed whatsoever. Those 'fine people at Creation and Henson' would LIKE another Muppetfest, but depending on which company buys the Muppets it may well never happen - i would LIKE a new red Ferrari convertible but i don't see any car dealers trading one for my collection of belly button fluff right now either.
I guess we shall wait and see, and await the official press releases as and when they are err released ! :D

Well, perhaps if you were wearing your muppet thong, your belly button fluff would be more valuable!

Well, I have a friend who got in the "Weirdest Things on eBay" book for selling his wart. I think it was the no-cloning disclaimer that held down the bids.
Hey, even better, glue your fluff on Bunsen's head and sell him as a rare non-bald factory error!

THIS IS GREAT!!! And you know what folks, you know what!?!?! You know where I live?!?! NEW YORK!!! I live in the likely location for the next Muppetfest, I'm so happy!!! I missed last Muppetfest because it was so close to September 11th and I was a little afraid of flying at that time, so I hope this, my first Muppetfest, will be half as good as the event you made it out to be last year.

So, NOW I should be able to find a way to afford the trip to Santa Rosa to see the grand opening of the Charles M Schulz Museum!!
I hope. AND be able to attend MuppetFest.
I just hope everyone can come, from far and near, and we can have another MC Famiy Reunion!! Maybe the second night there we can all bring out puppets to a Reunion Dinner? Muley's pumped for it all.
Later!

The Sesame Street muppets should appear at Muppet Fest 2003 because SS was ignored at the last Muppst Fest and it has become an importance in Muppet history. Now, Hands up on who wants to see Louise Gold, Caroll Spinney, Fran Brill, Martin Robinson and Frank Oz there!

HOOBS !!!!!!
Get em there live and in person, and introduce em to the Americans. They've done Big Brother, now Muppetfest and are pretty much becoming the new Fraggles.
OHH! YAY!!!
I just got back in the country, and I am thrilled to have this news here waiting for me. Yes, I understand that 'MFest in early 2003' sounds better than 'MFest plans for 2002 scrapped - hope for next year', but I think its a good move on their part. They are SO crazy there right now with the sale issues, ect., that I don't think they'd be able to put on a show with the level of quality and enthusiasm we expect from them.
A spring/summer 2003 seems like the best idea to me. Besides, I might be lucky enough to have the dates fall during Spring Break at the school I teach at. Then I could make it a real vacation instead of a quick and dirty weekend.
I like the idea of it in NY too; I wouldn't have to get on a *#@$ing plane to see them. (I'm TERRIFIED of flying - only the Muppets and my family can get me on one of those things!) I did it last year , and I would again, but I'd be MUCH happier if I didn't have to.
So, here's to Spring 2003...start saving cash and vacation time now!:)
This reminds me - does anyone remember a lady called 'Wolfy' who was posting here around the time of the last Muppetfest ? She said she couldn't go because of the date change, flying and other things. She seemed to be popular here then vanished - unless she is here under a different name or was just some secret agent for Creation enticing us to buy tickets or something. From what i know there was a fair bit of corporate activity going on here last year and multiple people have totally dissapeared.

Luke, I'm sure Wolfy would be flattered to know that you have asked about her. She has been keeping in touch via e-mail. As happens with most folks, life has taken a front seat and taken her time away from us. Hopefully, she'll be able to make a full return to the boards soon.

Hey, Yeah!! Ms. Wolfy!! I remember her!!
Sorta.
BUT I DO REMEMBER HER!!! Come to think of it, what ever happened to that one funny person whose monicker was Prairie Dawn? She was really active in that one successful role-play we did at the old boards. Hmmm....
Seems to be a MYSTERY here; mayhaps it's time to call out...

I really really hope its in NYC this time around, although I think I will go to wherever it is this year. My only hope is that it isnt in June (I am getting married June 21, so life will be hectic then and I would probly have to miss it).

Various thoughts/replies:
...anyone who's nervy about flying may want to consider taking a Greyhound which is what i did last time - and you can groove out with your headphones filled with Muppet Music to pass the time!
...IF by rare chance it is June 21st, why let that interfere with wedding plans...get married at MUPPETFEST! We can all come and sway back and forth in the aisles singing "HE'LL MAKE HER HAPPY!!"
Nice to have more of a chance to save money - and for those of us exercising and dieting, that gives us more time to lose weight! (lost between 15-20 so far!) ...and maybe with a 2002 MF out of the way, i can go to a Farscape con this year!
...i'm considering emailing Creation and asking if since there won't be a gathering in 02 if they may consider keeping the spirit alive by releasing more merchandise including and especially a video of the first one! (Either highlights like the one they have for Farscape I or a vid of the live show)
I kinda hoped for one last fest that's the core fans as they stand now before things REALLY explode and a lot of new or "rediscovered fans" come out of the woodwork after KSY/Xmas movie/series, but still just the thought of the fan base and level of excitement that will be at a fest in Spring is very cool!
In the meantime, some of us may want to consider getting our "personal interaction" cravings out of the way by following the leads of our Europe friends and putting on some small unofficial regional gatherings - those states that have a lot of fans may want to have some Muppet parties. I don't think there's a lot of core fans (that are on these boards) in the Phoenix area but if i knew of even a couple, i'm sure we could have a rather awesome time! (esp with my tape collection!)

I wonder if puppeteers will sign their figures. That would be cool, but it may be asking too much, huh. A signed figure would increase the price greatly - like I'd ever sell it!
It would be SO COOL to see the figures being signed by the puppeteers - i think that is a definite on the ol' 'wish list'.

The puppeteers were so generous and happy to meet the fans last time, I can't imagine they'd refuse to sign anything. I'm sure we could get signed figures. We just need the right sort of pens.
Last time my daughter had a Muppet picture we were getting signed. Unfortunately it did not have a single Jerry Nelson Muppet, but Jerry was as a nice as he could be when we saw him in the museum and he signed the picture without even mentioning that it didn't represent his work.
Well i hope the Henson dudes are told they MUST sign it personalised with the persons name - otherwise i can see a lot of scalpers finding their way to Muppetfest.

Great solution, Luke. As true fans, we want the autograph for our collecton and personalising it would mean more to us and would make it weirder to sell. Weeds out the bad eggs.
Fozzie Bear

I would MUCH rather have someone autograph something to me PERSONALLY!! I just don't see myself ever buying an autograph.
I bought Ray Bolger, Bert Lahr, Jack Haley, and a few other autographed photos of Wizard of Oz stars (that I could afford)! That was cool.
I'm searching still for a decent priced autographed photo of Ray Bolger signed "The Scarecrow of Oz" since that was the title of an original Frank Baum book.
My autographed photos that I have from the Muppets are signed to ME! I just wouldn't want anything less.
Rowlf--
I think we're allowed to boot-leg now, right?

It was filmed, but i think people who went were told it was for the archives and not for broadcast - but lots of people hoped that would change.

So, last time the band was good, but they had a limited repetoire. So what songs would we like this time around? I'm voting for a full scale sing-along. If not during the Fest, maybe outside while we stand in line waiting for the doors to open....
Here are some of my picks:
Rubber Duckie

TMS Theme
Sesame Theme
