So, is anyone gonna push that red button??? And could someone toss me a cheeseball? I'm getting kinda hungry up here.
Beauregard
03-30-2005, 02:00 PM
Beauregard steps away and says, "I'm not going to have anything to do with this."
Beauregard hands over a cheese ball.
Beauregard presses Red Button.

I don't know, but I think we're sinking... is that a good thing?

03-30-2005, 02:16 PM
Er...maybe we'll hit oil.
christyb
03-30-2005, 02:16 PM
*shocked* No it can't be! I didn't even know I steered us into water! Why didn't you warn me??
Beauregard
03-30-2005, 02:21 PM
Please, concider yourself warned in the opposite of advance.
FISH'N'WOLFE
03-30-2005, 02:24 PM
Er...maybe we'll hit oil. Or the Exxon Valdez.
Why didn't you warn me?? Well I don't exactly have the best view being down here on the floor. I can warn you about the gum thats stuck under the seat though.
Beauregard
03-30-2005, 02:26 PM
I love the chaos! I love the chaos! I love the...er...what are you doing under my chair?
christyb
03-30-2005, 02:30 PM
Under you chair?? He's supposed to be operating the gas and brake pedals. And while I'm at it why didn't you tell us we were heading for water?? Or are we even in water??
Beauregard
03-30-2005, 02:31 PM
Water? Where? I can get you a glass if you want.
FISH'N'WOLFE
03-30-2005, 02:34 PM
Under you chair?? He's supposed to be operating the gas and brake pedals. I am! Beau's sitting in the drivers seat jumping up and down saying how much he loves the chaos! So to answer your questions I'm under Beau's seat operating the gas and brake.
Beauregard
03-30-2005, 02:36 PM
Oh. Sorry, Christy. I didn't see you there. No wonder you couldn't see poast me to see the water.
*moves to passenger seat*
*kicks back, and closes eyes*
Can I take a rest now?
FISH'N'WOLFE
03-30-2005, 02:40 PM
She can't see out the front to begin with, she's steering with her feet. By the way what's happening out back Christy? Beau, you can rest right after you take over the driving for us!
FISH'N'WOLFE
03-30-2005, 02:47 PM
Beau? Beau??? Great, he's asleep and Dave's passed out from eating to many cheeseballs.
christyb
03-30-2005, 02:59 PM
I guess it's just back to me and you. As far as the back goes all I see are fish swimming by with disturbed looks on their faces.
FISH'N'WOLFE
03-30-2005, 03:05 PM
At least it's fish and not sharks. I'm plugging leaks with old chewing gum down here. As far as I can tell, the bus transformed into a submarine.
christyb
03-30-2005, 03:07 PM
*water spewing from above right on my head* Yeah, a leaky submarine.
FISH'N'WOLFE
03-30-2005, 03:08 PM

Cantus Rock I agree with you as well
However I love to dream and when I dream I dream big. Hopefully we can get some type of fan convention together and all have a great time.

Hey, unclematt. There's more people on this thing than I thought. Welcome, have a seat, eat a cheeseball. We can plan a Muppetfest while robbing a bank to go to Puppetfest.

Don't forget that it might not be as expensive as you think either way. As long as you don't snore or smoke, you could room with me.
We have a convention starting tomorrow 4/1/05 which is MidsouthCon 23. It's not the convention I'm planning, but I plan on getting contact information from their planners and talking to them sometime about how they plan it, where they get funds, etc.
I plan on using that knowledge for the Southeast Chapter of the Nat'l Cartoonists Society meeting in October. Then, we can talk about a fan fest thing. Maybe call it "HensonFest" and invite folks from all facets of the genius of Jim down. Heck, Carroll could come and sell his books and drawings, Performers could sell their photos...IF it all pulls together. Besides that, if someone else is doing the legwork who's to say Disney wouldn't back it?
christyb
03-31-2005, 08:20 AM
Hey, Foz. I'm moving back to TN this spring so. After you get done with the National Cartoonists Society, I'll help with the legwork. Heck, I'll only be living two hours from Memphis. So count me in. I'm volunteering.

Sure, I'd hand you one myself, but I'm kinda sprawled on top of the seats and I'm driving with my feet.

Muppet fans with the money to go you mean. :).
A few months before Muppetfest, I sold about $1000 worth of stuff on ebay just so I could travel down and get the gold package. BEfore that I literally had no money, so if something means that much to a person, anything can be accomplished.
Christyb, I love you. You dream like I dream. BIG!!! We are a force to be reckoned with if we put all of our Muppet Central strength together. If Beauregard, Fozzie Bear, Beaker, Vic Romano, Cantus Rock, ScrapsFlippy and Beaker4Presidnt care enough about this we may have something. The people I listed are just people that posted in this thread, imagine how many others we could get behind us. Muppet Central isnt just a web site or a forum, It is a family. Families work together to make things happen. Lets work together to make this happen.
Due to my crazy shedule and lack of funds, it'd have to be an official Muppet day or event for me to be able to attend anything.

Just kind of keep it in the back of your mind. We shouldnt let this die.
Vic Romano
04-15-2005, 01:36 PM
The problem is making the event worthwhile. MC has members from Russia, the UK, the States, Germany and every other place on the planet, aside from that, there's only a few "regular" members. If the fest was in, say Texas, USA; there has to be a draw to get, not only the east, north and west part of the states, but those over seas are gonna' need incentive too. That's where you get sponsors. An event like that would have to be huge and really expensive.
What we need are teleporters.

It would have to be after October. I'm working on a mini-Convention for the Southeastern Chapter of the National Cartoonists Society now (the MSCA is hosting).

Again, not to shoot people's ideas down(if a few of ya wanna meet, more power to ya) but the only likely scenario for some sort of major fan meetup is if Disney has an official Muppet day or weekend at either Disneyland or WDW.
unclematt
04-19-2005, 05:44 PM
I hope that Disney does do something but in the mean time I feel like us sitting around and waiting is counter productive. There has got to be something we can do to encourage this to happen. I guess I want this to happen more than I originally thought I did but the more I have thought about it the more I get angry that I missed the original Muppetfest and the more I want to see something along those lines. I obviously think we are the key group of people to be involved with such a project. I think the people that regularly visit these forums have a true passion for everything Muppet. We are a special group of people that have a common interest and I believe we are the ones that count and the one that can make something happen. I know I have said this before but it is something I believe in more and more. I know That there are people who think it would be foolish for us to do this in the next few years or who dot believe we are able to do it with what we currently have but I will always dare to dream and I dont think I have to say what my dream is right now.
Okay I am done now. I am sorry to lay that all out there especially since most of it I have said before but once again that is how I feel. I really would like to see this happen some how and I know if any group of people could do this I think it is you guys.
I appreciate everybodies views, even those that do not agree with me. I think it is good to have on or two or even a few people playing Devil's Advocate.
Beauregard
04-20-2005, 03:06 AM
Okidoke, here's the thing Uncle Matt. How about...if you pout together a sample letter and find teh Disney address and we can all litter them with requests for this. It may not help, but I know it will help some of us get over our anger at missing Muppet Fest (myself included) if we have something active to do to help. It's a start anyway.

We are a special group of people that have a common interest and I believe we are the ones that count and the one that can make something happen. I know I have said this before but it is something I believe in more and more.
Believe me, I am right with you. Since I came into existence my dna has been filled with all things Muppets and JH. I've long envisioned Muppet fans around the world getting together in celebration of all things fuzz and foam. In 1998 and 1999 onthe old MC forums we used to ponder a Muppet fan meetup, like a hotel convention room with some guests. Muppetfest's acoouncement of June 2001 literally came out of nowhere.
Admittedly, deep down I truly despise Disney and am very resentful that JHC souled out(pun intended) to Eisner. This is why even a Muppet meeting at Disneyland or WDW seems a bit odd.
If ya look deep down, the real reason why we may never see another Muppetfest situation or anything like that any time soon is complacency.
You see, the public at large, even the underground(make no mistake...while 60% of the world's population might recognize Elmo and Kermit, even by JHC's estimates there are maybe only a few thousand hardcore Muppet fans online)
see the Muppets as nostalgia. Why is it, a short lived cancelled tv series on cable no Less(Farscape) is able to have regular annual cons...but Muppets...whose rich legacy spans half a century...gets laughed at?
As Muppet fans we are living in very unfortunate times. We're watching our very history be erased with the edge of a mouse eared pencil. If Oz is all the Diz has to show us Muppet wise in this 50th annv of the Muppets, it can't be good. Anywhere in the US, any price, you bet I'd be at a big "Muppetfest" type of deal. However, realisticly, how many fans would be willing to travel far and pay a lot for a very tiny gathering?
We'd be going on an unauthorized tour of Disneyland staging a guerrilla coup de'tat.

I know there would be a lot more people there than most would think. With just the replies to this post, well my goodness. One of the major issues that affected the 1st Muppetfest, was that it wasn't advertised enough. I found out about it at the last minute and by then it was to late for me to make arrangements or I sooooo would have been there. I'm a flight attendant now and would be there in a heartbeat if it happened again. And I'd make all that love me join me!
Any petition, any letters, any picketing, I am SO there.
After reading Beaker4Presidnt's post, I think we should start a petition here, e-mail it to the JH company or Disney, to try and get a new Muppetfest!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We could post a full name, a few requests (e.g. locations, dates e.c.t.) and (POSSIBLY!!!) an e-mail address.

The middle of the ocean would be fantastic! They could hand out commemorative buckets for those who get seasick, the performers would have nowhere to go if they felt we got too crazy and it would be an equal distance for just about everyone! That's it, I'm in!

Wait, wasn't Muppetfest a fan-run convention? Who are you going to petition?
And if you are serious, mailing a well-written letter to Disney people, times that by 1000 or however many people are interested, would be more effective than a petition in this case, as Disney probably has zero plans for a convention. Maybe trying to get details, and talking to them first, before writing a petition that comes out of nowhere, would probably work better.
I don't know how serious this thread is, but I thought I'd just say that.

Oh yes, that worked. But the petition has to be sent to the right people. And before I sign, I'd want to see the letter that's being attached. If it's being done, I want to see it actually be concrete and go somewhere. That's all I meant by my post.

I wish I woul have known that earlier.
I was just thinking...what if a bunch of us all met up one day for dinner for the first time? Would we constantly want to refer to each other by our MC user names? Would I always call her Mrs. Pepper just by habit no matter what her name was? What about Ziffel? I mean, I know some people's real names on here and I usually use them in the posts, but i just thought it would be weird if we all really met each other. :zany:

I've caught on to most people's real names in here (whether they want me to or not, heh) and I try to use them as much as I can. There's a few that I've never seen use their real name and one who's said he doesn't want his name used, so I try to respect that. However, those who don't know the real names of everybody could create a very interesting conversation. Knowing me with my mild speech impediment (namely, I get words mixed up), I'd end up calling you something like "Brear".
However, in terms of general conversation, I'm positive it wouldn't be a problem. We all converse so well on here that we'd do very well in a live conversation.

"Brear" haha! That would be funny and I wouldn't even mind it. It would be like Brer Bear or Brer Rabbit from Song of the South!

I'd call That Announcer "T.A." regardless of his real name. I wouldn't let people call me Mrs. Pepper in a real conversaion because that would irk me to no end, since I'm not a Mrs. (mind you, Pepper is rather cool). ;)
Yep, we'd definately converse very well, but as for names, it kind of depends. For someone like TogetherAgain I'd use her real name, as Together Again is a song. But you, Bear, I might end up calling you Bear, because it sounds like a name. Same as Vibs, Ziffel, Beau, etc. Weird nicknames, but still names.
Very cool post, by the way. That's food for thought! :D

Pretty interesting thought. I think we might do a combination of both. I know for myself, I could see me finding it neat to refer to everyone by their MC names here and would probably do so at times deliberately ("Pass the salt, Bear!" "How's your steak, Redboobergurl?"). But I can see part of the time utilizing our real names too, as already goes on in some posts here like you pointed out.
And if it was a VERY LARGE gathering of us, which would mean hearing of many real names at once for the first time, then the MC names would be a good thing to be able to fall back on in case you forget a name! (which I tend to do a lot. Whenever I meet a new person at church, for instance, it sometimes takes several embarrassing times of asking, "I'm sorry what was your name again? Was it Bill?" "Bob." "Oh Bob, right. I'm sorry." before it finally is permanently registered in my brain. :)

As for myself,I know just a few MC members by their first name.Everyone would call me: JaniceFerSure,JFS,Janice,Diana,Dee;whichever they are most comfortable with and know the most.Even though people do call me Diane(which I hate, since my name's Diana),I do answer to it.
I wonder if we would have a banner at our get together, what would it say? Welcome Muppet Central Members! or something of the like.

For me it all depends on who it is. Some people like Beau and Vibs I'd call them by their user names regardless. Why? I dunno habit. I try to use people's real names (if I know it) in my head. That way I remember them. Although, we'd get a lot of nice looks if we all went by usernames when we were together. Oh yeah and D'Snowth don't put yourself down like that! I was actually thinking at some point this summer that if we ever all met, I'd probably go crazy not being able to match up usernames and real names and faces, and would therefore find a way for everyone to wear their avatars. :p Then I realized that people change their avatars, some more often than others, and that it might not really help anyway. <shrug> still, it'd be pretty awesome, in my humble opinion.

I'd be standoffish towards other people. But with Lisa I'd be loud as heck, making her roll on the floor with laughter(I'm pretty funny in person and crazy nuts). But when I'm around people I don't knew very well I'm shy. So some of you I might be comfortable with, but others.......well you know.

Typically, in a group of people I don't know (or in a group of people I do know and don't necessarily want to talk to) I'll sit in the general vicinity of the main discussion and just sort of be absolutely silent for a while. Then I'll slink off and pull out a little notebook and start writing. However, if I were to meet up with all you folks, I'd be talking way too much, laughing way too loud, shrieking at way to high of a pitch- Nyssa can back me up on that last point...

I'm the one who talks TOO MUCH when nervous and ends up making a huge fool of themself. With just one person, I don't tlak alot, but in a group it's like I don't know when to shut up.
Princeton, many of us would have to travel far, and it would cost alot of money. Unless it was a really huge thing, or many people lived in close proximity of one another, it wouldn't exactly fly. It would have to be a big, planned event for most to be able to go.

I've thought about this often. I always decided that if there ever was another Muppet Fest or a bunch of us said we're gonna' meet at some convention or something; I'd wear a shirt that on the back says "I'm Vic Romano!"
I'm very outgoing and I insist on keeping conversations going, if anything, I'm quiet here! However; I believe I'd be the most recognizable member because of all the pics of myself I post. That and I'm 6'5" so it wouldn't be hard to spot me!
I really believe that some day, some where, a lot of us will be presented with an opportunity to meet, and I can't wait. :sing:

I think it would be so interesting and SO much fun if we all did meet up somewhere sometime. And I'm not sure about what I'd call people, as some I do call by their real names (Kathy, Lisa, Dan, Kyle) and others I call by their usernames (Beau, Mrs. Pepper, etc.). But man, it sure would be cool. I think the t-shirt thing would be helpful. Either that or nametags with our real name and then another with our username.

It seems I usualy call you all by you MC name, unless you have talked to me on IM, then your who ever you say you are, like I call FishNWolf Kevin, cuz hes a good friend of mine (through MC) the only exception to that rule is Beau, he will always be Beau even if I have talked to him online (sorry Beau, but I really dont even remember you real name :o ) Usualy I remember though

On a different subject, I answer to Dan and DanDan [as Vibs has taken up calling me :p ] and Strawberry and Berry; my real name is in my user name so I'd have no problems, hehe. Unless you wanted to start calling me Tutter. Ahh, those were the days. And these are the days. And weeks. And now I'm rambling.

I would definately wear my Kermit the Frog socks. And I'd carry around one or both of my rubber duckies. Heck, maybe I'd even find a way to put my avatar on a shirt. Heh. Supposing this did actually happen, and I did actually put my avatar on a shirt, do you think anyone would come up to me and say "Hi! You must be TogetherAgain!" ...just random question...

I would! If you had your Robin avatar on your shirt, I'd be all, TOGETHERAGAIN! HOWZITGOING?!?
Just a side note, at a local store I found a bunch of REALLY cute Sesame notebooks for a dollar each!!! I am going to buy one tomorrow, and if we all did meet, I woud buy some and give them to all of you. :D:D:D Espeially the artists and fan-ficers, they could put them to good use!
At MuppetFest we all met for dinner one night, and we...
...wait a sec... You already had a MuppetFest once? Where?!! When?!! Why?!! What?!! Who?!! (Actually just answer the where and when questions..)
Anyway, it sure is a cuuuurious thought. I'd probably be rather not-knowing-what-to-say-or-how-to-say-it. Okay, so my english is not that bad... okay, so it's not bad... okay so my english is good.. um, but still it's my second language and I'd probably be rather paralysed with fear about the thought that everybody was speaking english and that almost everybody actually spoke it as their first language! Arghh!! But then again, I could just insert a little ness and ish here and there and of course bring Tabi (Minidoozer) and use her as my dictionary. Oh boy it would be fun. Um, not using Tabi as a dictionary... Meeting. :p
As to the names, hmmm I dunno. I think I'd call most of you your usernames. I'm pretty sure that people would call me Vibs anyway. If they started calling me Louise I'd probably panic for some On-MC-I'm-Vibs-reason.

Is there any way we could get Muppet fans around the world to agree to a summer-long fan convention AND an ongoing LARP of Muppet College Dorms?
For those that are totally outta the loop, LARP stands for Live Action Role Play. I am a newbie to LARP and I don't wish to do any LARP inside a fantastic setting such as the D&D universe, but rather in a "fantasy-meets-reality" setting where we could have our favorite Muppets be our college roommates. My thought is to find some way to bring the Muppets into our world and actually have conversations with them--much like the Muppet College Dorms game in the Games section that we have going on right now.
Any ideas/thoughts/suggestions?

I'd say I'm completely lost, but I just know someone would use the running gaga, "Have you tried Hare Krishna?"
A summer-long convention would be expensive. Everyone would have to go to one single location and then everyone would have to find room and food the whole summer; and I don't understand the LARP thing. You mean the REAL Muppets? Not likely. Disney wouldn't dare.

I'm not against a weekend (or week-long) fan celebration somewhere. It's expensive and time-consuming. You have to contact the stars, you have to hire rights, pay for special guest hotel, food, travel...coordinate events and screening rights...so much trouble and effort goes into making a convention.
Yes, hopefully an official MuppetFest II will take place at some point.

I am going to say this again, There is no reason not to have another Muppetfest. If the entire Muppet Central community got together we could pull this off. I know I am not the most knowledgable when it comes to stuff like this but I know there are people who are very knowledgable when it comes to this kind of stuff. I guess I am a little biased because I missed the first Muppetfest and really want to experience one but I truly think that if we put our minds together we could pull this off.

I dunno. I'm not really willing to spear-head a convention. We just got through working on a 3 day Fall Meeting for our group here in Memphis, and we've been working on this since February...it's a LOT of work.
Maybe if we all start writing MHC and Creation Entertainment (who did the first MFest) we can maybe get something going again?
