The Muppet Show Live performance was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and a lot of fun to see. A video release would be awesome for my memories.

The way it was produced was both for Jumbotron and intent for subsequent release was obvious. It was very well scripted.

Brooke Shields and Jon Voight were great, especially for his stepping in last minute. It was wonderful to see Paul Williams, though his voice was pretty shakey.

Similarly, Steve had the same kind of troubles that night. After the comment below, I remember Steve telling me that he had a head cold and remember him drinking hot tea all weekend. Steve is a brillant performer. Give him the rat, amongst many others and he's unbeatable. He's taken up Kermit nobly and with gusto. Yet, Kermit's personality is subtley different and singing as Kermit is something that just hasn't ever worked well for him. I would imagine it was very hard and an emotional thing for him to have to do live. However, that piece is THE signature piece of anything the Muppets have ever done. That night, it just wasn't ON.

Remember the Perform a Muppet segment at Muppetfest!? Seemed intended to be incorporated into the opening for the live show. Yet, it just didn't pan out, so it didn't make the live show.

This is why The Muppet Show - Live is in the vault and will likely stay there. If the finished video was quality and stood a chance of making money, without risk to the reputation of Muppets, it would be out there.

JHC has followed a path of producing high end "picture perfect" product in it's post-Jim era. They are very open to fan appreciation, but are very closed-door when it comes to opportunities within the company. Somewhat understandable, yet some of those long-time, dedicated fans may have an incredible understanding of the characters and just the ticket that JHC needs for the survival of the characters.

People want to laugh and the Muppets naturally taps into that. If JHC can't recover that essence of zany energy, that is so much their trademark, and reliably translate it to media within a timeframe that resonates with their fanbase; their efforts and successes will continue... however conservatively.

Our friend Steve was very sick that whole weekend, so that we had a MS Live at all is a blessing!! He had some throat infection (possibly sinus infection).

The discussion came up recently about Steve's Kermit, and 99.9% of the time he's dead-on to Jim's (in the opinions of myself and a friend), except once in a while Kermit's voice--while talking--cracks. This is noticeable in the Behind the Scenes stuff with Kermit on KSY. I decided that it's likely Steve's way of performing Kermit but by letting you know directly that it isn't Jim's voice we're hearing.

However, Steve--to have gone on with MuppetFest and Muppet Show Live!--is to be applauded and cheered! :)

HOORAY! HOORAY! HOORAY!
Go, man! Go!

And Jerry's Floyd sounds exactly like Jerry's Floyd. Thought I'd add that. :sing:

Thanks for the update, Secret Squirrel. Some people here had suspected as much. Oh, well. Maybe if they ever do another one they can record it. And maybe we can see little snippets in upcoming retrospectives and DVD collections!

Briefly: the two-day MuppetFest convention in So. California in Dec. 2001 concluded with "The Muppet Show Live," a two-hour benefit performance for Feed the Kids that was framed as an episode of "The Muppet Show," complete with Kermit popping out of an O at the beginning, with Statler and Waldorf heckling from a balcony, and with plenty of comedy and musical numbers. The difference between this and a typical episode of TMS is not only the length, but the fact that it was being performed live on stage in front of us. Not actors in giant costumes performing to a prerecorded track, but the ACTUAL Muppets live on stage, with the actual performers.

Brooke Shields and Jon Voight were among the guest stars, as was Paul Williams, who played a piano with Kermit sitting on it as they (and eventually other Muppets) performed a number of the most famous songs that Williams wrote for the Muppets (he wrote the scores for Muppet Movie, Muppet Christmas Carol, and Emmett Otter's Jug-Band Christmas). The "Rainbow Connection" finale featured a TON of the most famous Muppets onstage, as well as the towering Bossmen characters.

In other words, it was one of the GREATEST Muppet productions ever. Period.

Unfortunately, the people at Henson were too humble about their creation, apparently, and didn't realize anyone would want copies afterwards. Hence the "will we ever see this on video?" discussion.

Hope that helped.

My 2 cents on the video/dvd release...

I feel strongly this is something that should be made available and the whole key is in HOW it's done...

If we're talking about an available-in-stores general release product, i doubt that would be the best avenue. It is possible to do so if marketed appropriately and with a special introduction announcing the circumstances the show was done under etc. (ie intro and/or packaging can be along the lines of "In December 2001, Muppet fans the world over gathered in Santa Monica for a weekend celebration of the works of the Jim Henson Company. The official fan festival, put on by Henson and Creation Entertertainment, climaxed with a special live performance of The Muppet Show at the Palace Theatre in Hollywood! The audience got to view the show as if they were watching an actual production of The Muppet Show being taped: seeing the Muppeteers working The Muppets held up over their heads on platformed stages - while interacting with human guests Paul Williams, Brooke Shields, and Jon Voight. Mixed with classic clips, favorite songs/sketches and all new material, this special evening doubled as a benefit for Save the Children. Now fans the world over can experience the MuppetFest magic that took place!" Extras of course could include additional footage of highlights of the Festival portion....or even some of the rare footage that was screened (or stuff that wasn't shown...like some of the stuff being shown at MTR - this would be a wonderful opportunity to get some of the old commercials and rare early stuff on DVD).

...However, while that would be the best route to go IF it was a commercial DVD, my main feeling is that it should be a special video/DVD sold through Creation...which is something that's not too uncommon for them to do - releasing videos of a festival highlights. (The Farscape Fan Club had a video release of their first Con). That way it's available to those that want it - the purchasers have a full understanding of the circumstances that the show was done under, and much of the overhead costs associated with a larger commercial release wouldn't apply as per fancy packaging, advertising/marketing, distribution, etc etc.

Granted, Henson can probably use all the money it can take in (and Creation certainly love to rake in as much cash as they can bleed from fans), but if possible, they could even extend the charity portion further and have a portion of the proceeds go to Save the Children.

There are ways to get this show out to those who want to see it! Especially considering how the initial press for MuppetFest referred to it as what would be an annual event and now it doesn't seem like there will be a MF II (or if there is, it won't be for awhile), it would be a good way to keep the official organized fandom going and keep up the energy/momentum. Those that weren't able to attend (and especially those who were counting on a future event - not to mention those that were initially planning to go but weren't after the delayed date change) should be given the chance to see it. It can - and should - be done.

Henson related people have said that the video shot is not broadcast quality, what you were seeing was being shot for the big screens for the audience to get a good view. I know myself, that technically the conditions for shooting something for a live relay, and shooting something for broadcast is totally different. It'll never be released as a commercial product - though clips would make some nice commercial DVD extra's where the quality wouldn't matter too much, or as you say, just a low budget DVD sold at the next Muppetfest (if there is one) or via a website. It's a shame cos i'd like to see it.

There may not be another MuppetFest convention. No official announcements have been made for the next one. The Henson team is working through a lot of long-term strategies right now. If it happens, believe me it will be all over the site and forum.

If the rumors are anything to go by, if it did happen, it wouldn't be for at least another year. I think in the Henson companies current position (ie:- not much money) they couldn't really justify investing right now in something that isn't all that profitable or boosts prospects dramatically even though they'd like to. They know people want that kinda stuff - and are making more smaller appearances like Barnes & Noble, MOT&R, and the statue unveiling which the public can attend.

There are currently no "official" plans for a MuppetFest in 2004. The Henson Company is going through a lot of financial and structural changes right now.

One of the next big things on the horizon next year will be the 25th anniversary of The Muppet Movie and preparing to lay the groundwork for celebrating the Muppets 50th anniversary down the road. Time will tell whether or not there will be another MuppetFest.

I think there will be a Muppetfest before the end of 2004. My reasoning, is because they need a big fan event to galvanize things for the massive 2005 year(least Im hoping it is massive) 2004 shall be more or less a buildup year toward that. Sure, they are in transition, but you never what what will be announced with JHC! Btw, a March 2003 Muppetfest looked like it might have happened, heck Palisades was even talking about having a con exclusive Animal for it...but it wasnt meant to be. 2004 tho! :)

Luke
11-13-2003, 04:33 AM
I think if it happened in 2004 it would be a December thing but I doubt it. 2005 is far more likely, early summer. I'm not quite sure a few hundred fans in a room is going to galvanize massive fan support enough to make it worth doing financially but i'm sure they know the hardcore fans would like one. It's probably best for people not to get their hopes up too much.

Yeah, but if it was in Memphis they'd only have about 12 people show up. Then again, there is more here for folks to see, like Graceland and stuff, so who knows?

I doubt they would have it here though because LA and NY are where they have their studios and it's easier to transport their stuff there than to a different city.

I wouldn't mind the next one being in NewYork, then we might get to visit the JHC and SS stuff and offices, etc.

Hey everyone!

Now, if you're like me, you wanted to go to Muppety convention after Muppety convention, but haven't had the available resources to attend for one reason or another (in my case, a cash issue - LOL & *sniffle*). What I wondered is whether, instead of waiting for an official "Fest," (even though all of us who could attend would and should) why hasn't anyone thought of putting together little groups (i'll leave everyone here to define 'little' as per the regions of the US) around the States for just that purpose? We wouldn't be able to get exclusive merchandise or anything, due that it is unofficial, but we would still be together as people all interested in one thing: The work of the JHC. (Plus, here at MC, we probably have enough merchandise to start our own commercial 'Fest - just kidding all, wouldn't want to stiff the rightfully deservant of their just profit now, would I?) Still, we could exhibit and stuff. I'm thinking "MuppetFest West," (Northwest & CA) or "Cajun Night with Pepe!" (LA & Gulf) et cetera. Well, let me know what you all think! I just know that I can't wait a whole year (or longer) for the Fest :) Bring back the wonder, everyone!

Hey! Good post. Well, there was a lot of discussion 5 years ago about having a gathering summer of 99...but it took an official Muppet Convention 3 years later to bring everyone together...and even then a lot couldnt attend. The best thing has been these Muppet appearences, like Carrol Spinney with Oscar book tour, or Kermit/Sweetums in NY. I myself feel we will see a Muppetfest before 2005, perhaps in a year or sooner. 2004 will be on the eve of the 50th Muppet Annv year so Im sure something has to be in the works sometime.
Also, folks are free to make planned local mini muppet meep...err meetups in a agredd upon location!

Hmm....any takers from around idaho or the northwest for a mini Fest? (PoA will just have to wait :( ) Hmm...

Hey thanks for that - I've been reading about the last MF on the site and it looked beyond fantastic - some of the exhibits remind me of a travelling exhibiton that went round the UK some years back - I think it took up permanent residence at the Museum of Moving Image in London (which has now sadly closed) - I remember seeing puppets from the Dark Cyrstal along with the stars of Sesame Street - in fact when SS came to the UK my mum was an educational consultant on the first series - she helped the American producers understand the British education system.

Fozzie Bear

Oh, cool!

You have a history with SS!

The room wasn't very huge, but large enough; and the displays were really neat; had it been 3 or more rooms that would have been cool, too! I tried to get the local BIG museum to bring the Vision of JH down to Memphis, and they said they put it in the list of possibilities.

I agree: 2005 seems more likely. Probably late. By then, there'll most surely be a new film (either completed or in production), possibly another series (hopefully) and perhaps some other projects. Of course, this is all my opinion.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to attend Muppetfest. I really do hope that there will be a second one. But, of course, there is no sense in holding one if nothing much is going on muppet-wise.

I'm sure that there will be a second convention. The only question is when that will be.

Well we all know for certain there will be a next MF in 2005...the big question is will there be one before New Years in 2004? I remember when strong word indicated a March 2003 MF...errr, that didnt quite happen. I had predicted 2004 NYC...but now that JHC is moving shop to CA(so I read) it seems like it will be held in CA again. Wherever its held, I can bet all of us will try our best to get there, as it truly is one of the most remarkable things ever.

Sorry to blow your hopes but it definitely is NOT certain there will be a MF in 2005. There hasn't been anything mentioned about another one being held in ages so although people are pretty much agreed it's the most likely time that doesn't mean it will happen or is even in the works right now.

One of the things I observed at MuppetFest was how much the cast and crew enjoyed seeing people they had not seen for a long time. I imagine for them it felt like a class reunion. Perhaps there are marketing and business reasons that will dictate when the next MuppetFest is scheduled, but from the standpoint of the participants, an interval of five years between "reunions" might help them maintain enthusiasm for the event.

Hey, TravelTravel! Long time no post!!

I think IF it happens it'll be the 50th Anniversary of the JHC/Muppets. I also expect we'll hear more about it as that time approches earlier than we heard about the last one, which I think was last-minute planned for the 25th anniversary of TMS.

Best thing to do is just wait and not worry or wonder, because you can bet your bippy they'll let us know!

And at the same time that they enjoyed seeing each other and kept mentioning how excited they were to meet the fans, I wonder if they felt the love from us?? They've all done such great things to inspire our lives and help us project such positive energy from our own lives.

According to Jim Hill:

http://www.jimhillmedia.com/legacy/index.htm?../articles/02182004.2.htm~contentFrame

I'll say this much … If you weren't already planning on going to Philadelphia to take part in Roy Disney and Stanley Gold's "Save Disney" shindig, then you'd better make plans to do so now. Because I can virtually guarantee you that next month's annual shareholder meeting is now going to become a veritable Muppetfest. With Kermit making an appearance behind the podium and "The Bear in the Big Blue House" dancing on stage. While Michael crows about how the Muppets will now be able to fill the creative void left by Pixar. How ABC will now be able to use the Muppets to revitalize its ratings, etc.

Sounds like a **** of a show, doesn't it? I know I'll be there. I just wish I felt happier about this whole thing.

I have heard so many great things about MuppetFest and I wish I could have gone. Hopefully at the VERY least Disney will now do the type of thing they do with other special sides. They have a month in the summer devoted to Star Wars weekends and then they have ABC Soap Opera weekends. It would only make sense that they have :) Muppet Weekends!!!!! :zany:

Indeed! I missed not having Quinn and Jamie and Luke and several others there! That would have been so cool. But, still, in only 3 days there wasn't enough time to spend getting to know everybody better...more personally...than we know each other here.

Hopefully next time I can have enough moolah to stay a week and hopefully others can, too.

Then again, I can also work it out to get a scheduled block of rooms for a local hotel where we can all meet up, bring our OWN puppets, do our OWN puppet show, eat together, (not sleep together...though I'm sure sometimes that might be fun), we can watch movies and do all kinds of things, including listen to Nate on the local radio station. That'd be fun.

And, of course, it'd be easier if everyone just moved here from where you all live now and then we could take over Memphis, TN, and turn it into Muppet, TN.

As much as I don't like what going on with the JHC selling to the Mouse, I do have to admit that I am a little happy. I was looking for the Ed Sullivan Show Magic (or what ever is called) DVD a few weeks ago, I had to go to three different stores, and I still couln'dt find it. We are not talking little Mom and Pop joints either (Target, Best Buy, and WalMart). If you can't find your stuff at WalMart, somethings wrong!

Disney DVDs/videos are different, they have thier own zip code. That will be nice.

Money for cool stuff will be nice too.

But Kermit, Fonzy, Gonzo, Piggy, Eisner? It gives me the creeps.

Muppetfest was great, but lets not forget its faults. Sound problems. Marketing to both kids and adults. AND I MISSED SWEETUMS BECAUSE I CHOOSE TO WATCH THE SWAMP YEARS PREVIEW!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! !!!

one of the biggest mistakes I've ever made.

So if there is ever a Muppetfest again, it might be better it might not, but it will be a lot more organized.

When last I visited the forums (about a year and a half ago) there was much talk of a Muppetfest II. Did anything ever come about from that? I would assume that with Disney buying the Muppets, a muppetfest would be pretty up in the air right now....

A second Muppetfest is about as likely as me becoming the next Pope but there are apparently some Henson Legacy events in the planning, and also Disney have been known to do themed weekends with their characters so we shall see. Personally i don't think it could ever be the same as the original .... those guys were very lucky.

Oh, you could say that;) Luke seems to be right a lot of the times over the years, whether I hate to admit it or not. But yeah...2001 was about it. There could be some sort of "heres the Muppets" intro weekend, with awkward pimply faced teens in big Muppet costumes...but nothing I would imagine like Muppetfest. The saddest thing is, next year is the 50th annv of the muppets...think Disney gives a frell? They much rather put on Hillary Duff-con.

Tho hey, least muppets.com has been ressurected, tho just look at the horrific site Disney.com ha sbecome.

Mercy. This is a tired old topic now. It won't happen again, I sincerely believe. I think the closest we'll ever get again is a themed day at one of the Disney Parks and I'm okay with that kind of event. Like their Star Wars day.

The magic of that first Muppet Fest won't ever be captured again. :(

It's fun to wish about, but it won't happen anywhere else but the USA, and if it does it'll be at a park.

actually ya bet your bippy I'd be at a themed event...as long as at least some semblence of people from JHC were there, and muppeteers. If thats the closest we can get to a next MF than sweet. Btw, anyone remember when "Muppetfest 2003" looked to be a go, with Palisades even selling a special tour animal for it? It was almost officially announced, but it never happened.

But c'mon, thinking there will be a MF2 has become like thinking there will be a Goonies 2 someday, or back to the future 4.

There have been "Muppetfest" gatherings in the past, but lately, everyone usually meets up at big toy conventions.

Philip Chapman, this site's creator, hosted both past meetings I believe.

Unfortunately, you're digging in slim-pickin's. There was only ever one MuppetFest. Toughpigs.com had a members' meeting this year, sort of their own fanfest. I would almost doubt anything like that would happen in Canada, but if you watch after Disney gains the Muppets outside of their "Holding Company LLC," we may see certain Muppet-based events at the theme parks. I still think there should be a Disney Theme Park in Canada, even if it's no bigger than a Six Flags Theme Park.

Well Kevin, don't rule out a special Muppet day/weekend at a Disney theme park...be it DL, CDA or WDW. It'll be a chance for Mupept fans all over to come together, as a sort of pseudo MuppetFest. Sure, there may be some fist fights, some harsh words to Eisner, and mixed feelings...but it'd be swell.

If only Muppet fananticism was anything like Farscape fandom.

Hey, all.

When I went to MuppetFest! I got several autographs by the performers et al. When I returned home, I made (via copy, cut, paste, and copy again) some little 'autograph books' with the pictures from the book I got signed and the signatures, as well as copies of the schedule and flier. What I did was I gave a deadline for my MC friends to request I send them this stuff, and I did. Just so those who didn't go could have their own little "happy" from the event.

Well, I'm digging around and I found several copies still here. Basically, if you want your copy for free, send postage-paid, self-addressed envelope to me and I'll put these little things in there and forward it right on out to you. All you'll need is basic rate postage in a regular sized envelope. I think there's 8 or 10 of them left, so as you're dropping your's in the mail, be sure to respond here so folks won't be sending envelopes without a reason.

As long as the envelopes are showing up, I'm filling 'em with what I have left and sending them out. I think there's only a few folks who've responded so as soon as their envelopes get here, I'll send it back out.

So far, Whatever's envelope is the only one to arrive, so I might assume you're safe, but there's still only 8-10 of these things total. The earlier envelopes get the little autograph book thing and copies of the itenerary and whatever else that thing is I've got (the latter 2 items==there ain't many).

Hi Kevin! thanks for the heads up! I'm sorry i forgot to mention i sent it and that it took me bit. This past week we put our house up for sale and the other day i had to pack away most of my muppet stuff...ya know, so the people who come to the house showing don't get bombarded with Muppet stuff and you can now see the walls of my room. It's still has a lot of Muppet stuff on the shelfs so they don't look bear...er frog...well whatever, and my movie posters are all still up, plus my action figure cabnet if full to capasitly, so people will know i'm a big muppet fan! just not a big crazy fan ;-) I'm just thinking i might not see some of that stuff for 3, 4, 5 or more months! I packed away my Thog PVC!(along with all the others.....i have to dig them out....I can't go that long without em! ;) When and i even have to say "IF" we move, I'll still be in the same area, so i'm not moving out of state or anything. we are just starting to look now so it's nothing that's going to happen soon. But i have a feelling the house will sell fast, because i don't want it to sell fast!!!

Yeah, moving is stinky. You feel like you're living out of a suit case for so long, and then it takes a while to adjust to your new surroundings.

Just wait'll you move out on your own and it's your apartment and you're responsible for finding a place to put all your stuff. And even then, you won't have enough room for everything to go on display, which stinks.

I can't wait til I buy a house one day. A big, Addams Family lookin' pad!

That was the only one and there were once rumors of a new one that never panned out. I doubt we'll have another one quite like that one, but sometimes Disney has themed events at their parks, so maybe one day WDW or Disneyland will do a Muppet Themed weekend with the same kind of functions (Q&A, Live Muppet Show, etc).

I know I am still new to Muppet Central but I have been a true blue (or green) Muppet fan for as far back as I can remember. It is great to see that there are so many of us and I truly believe that we have enough influence to inspire a New MuppetFest. I look at your pics of the first MuppetFest and am so upset at the fact that I missed it. In the back of my mind and heart I have kept a glimmer of hope that there would be another one. Mr.Chapman maybe you are the person that this should be addressed to, I am not sure, but I could not imagine a better time then meeting many of the wonderful people that frequent this site for a weekend of nothing but what makes us happy and that is the Muppets. :D

i defintely agree. instead of just not trying, the moderators, phillip chapman, and all of us should come together as muppet fans and set this up ourselves. we can book the classic and/or current performers, prop guys, creature shop designers, etc. theres tons of convetions all over, some for the most ridiculous things! and they're successful. i go to horror conventions all the time, the actors, vendors, promoters, venue make a lot of money, very successful. and thats why they keep happening.

im gonna start a petition. for another muppetfest. and do whatever i can. WHOS IN?

Good to see people with a passion and enthusiasm for such a thing! Aw yes, 3.4 years ago(and 50 pounds heavier)...Muppetfest was something else. After all of us on Muppet Central from 1998 thru 2000 talking about having a fan get together...fooom! One day I'm logging onto MC(june 6th 2001) and the announcement was made. A truly incredible thing, if only there could be another.

Now there was spose to be another one in march of 2003 tentatively. Palisades even had an exclusive animal planned for it, but it never happened.

I know Disney has had Star Wars weekends, I wonder if they might someday have a Muppet themed one. That's about as close to another MF as it'll get. Either way, I will certainly be there! :)

If 30,000+ people can't get FR on DVD by now, you think a petition is going to put an extremely costly convention into the works?

I'm sorry, its just too much to even dream about. It would be more worthwhile to petition to the Disney Co. to have one of those mentioned theme days (a la the Star Wars weekend at MGM Studios).

unclematt
03-21-2005, 12:42 AM
Why cant Disney do the convention?

Cantus Rock
03-21-2005, 01:02 AM
Simple economics; cost of production (in this case, the convention) vs. projected returns. Disney, like all corporations, does not want to lose money.

If the petition was HUGE (ie. 100,000-200,000 signatures), it might turn a few heads. But it just isn't a practicle thing to shoot for. I don't mean to be the somber voice of logic or anything, but I like achievable goals and dreams.

But hey, who knows. I would be thrilled to the gills if I were proven wrong and there actually were another convention.

unclematt
03-21-2005, 01:17 AM
I appreciate you're honesty Cantus Rock.

I just keep thinking about this green little frog that said:

Who said that every wish
Would be heard and answered
When wished on the morning star
Somebody thought of that
And someone believed it
And look what it's done so far
What's so amazing
That keeps us star gazing

I have this wish and someday it might be answered for the lovers, the dreamers and me.

Kind of sappy I know but it is what the song is all about and I am not ready to give up so if there is anybody that wants to help and start this petiton going please let me know.

Beauregard
03-21-2005, 01:35 AM
I personally think letters will be better than an online petition, but that's just me.

I'd love for it to happen, but I can't help looking realistically and saying, uh uh, ain't gunna. But, maybe we could set up a smaller one. Invite a performer... I dunno.

Perhaps one of the newer, mor enthusiastic guys like Eric Jacobson...I dunna.

We could sit around with Muppet Fans and watch movies. Say "Hi ho" and "Kissey, Kissey" and argue teh finer points of Mupept cannon.

Oh boy I wish I hadn't missed the last one...

It's all speculation still, but highly likely. :excited:

We need to get a block of rooms in a hotel somewhere and send an invitation out to the performers and each other to show up, watch movies, and chit-chat. Do a fan-run thing instead. I'm on a convention planning committee for a cartoonists gig this October, let me see how that turns out.

I'm all for that type of thing...sounds fun! I don't know what the performers' contracts stipulate as to guest appearances (being that I'm sure they'd consider even a small thing like this a guest appearance due to its organized nature), but if it is possible, I'm there.

As for the FR DVD sets, I am really certain its just a matter of time. But being that its been such a struggle with so many back-and-forth rumors, I'm just waiting for the actual end product before I post a little Red smiley. ;)

And as for characters in the reacclaimation-type thing with Disney...last time I was at Muppet*Vision (which is admittedly way too long ago, being its currently 3 hours away and will be 30 minutes away when I go to college in June), there were already charactered persons around. I don't know where I put the pictures I took with them, but I know I have some. Anyway, the point is that hopefully it could be at least a little more than that, since that is already happening in my neck of the woods. Perhaps something more along the lines of MGM's "Star Wars Weekend" or something.

Another thing to remember folks, is that now and then there can be little events here and there that can be used for Mupept fan gatherings. That Henson film exhibit in NY, that Kermit walk of fame thing in Hollywood, etc.

True. But I like the idea of a big convention on the scale that Muppetfest was. (Highly unlikely but possible) It would be a lot of work but if there was demand enough for it and somehow it could be put together. Ok, so I need to stop thinking and typing. I would love another Muppetfest just like everyone else. But I do see it that it's unlikely that Disney will put out one. But there had to be a way we could put together our own. We'd hafta probably do without the characters (ok stay with me I'm dreaming here) but it's possible we could get the performers together and such. A long shot I know, but hey anything can happen.

i havent checked the replies on this post in a bit, and wow. thanks for all the feedback. but this is what i mean. THAT many people are interested from a muppet central forum. theres tens of thousands of muppet fans that dont know about this website, or dont even have a computer.

i was speaking of exactly what 'FOZZIE BEAR' was saying. thats how all horror conventions work, and im insanely familiar with them: i attend them every year and know people who set them up. you rent a block of rooms from the hotel, and plan the convention within the hotel. you fly performers to the convention, give them rooms for free, and allow them sell 8X10 glossys for autographs, autographs for your item signed, shirts, whatever they have & want to sell. thats how they make money. i dont think any muppet performer would really turn this down. and if we take it far enough, for life-long dreams to come true... just maybe another live muppet show. thats seems far-fetched at the moment, but you just never know!

so 'CANTUS ROCK', please. lets not knock this down. because it IS highly possible. sure disney is putting out the dvd box sets of the muppet show, which is a huge and amazing surprise! but who the heck knows what they hold for the future. everybody has their own views, but i dont think it looks good for the older, classic, fan favorite muppets we all know and love, like: dr. teeth & the electric mayhem, sweetums, crazy harry, uncle deadly, mahna, lips, swedish chef, marvin suggs, sam the eagle, etc.!!!!!! and as for the Fraggle Rock dvds.. yeah of course nothings happening yet. thats because disney would have to fork up all the cash to make it happen, since they now own it. if disney didnt want to be involved in the new fest, we could do it ourselves.. ya know?

im sure jim would be honored and overwhelmed looking down. honestly. it would truly be an incredible thing for the fans to do this. and being i attend conventions & meet actors constantly, it truly is an amazing and bonding experience, and the actors are ALWAYS overwhelmed and thrilled.

AS A TEAM, WE COULD DO THIS. I dont know how to set up an online petition, so if could someone could help thatd be great. I just want to get it up and going and see how many people truly would be for it & attend!

Lets just sit and wait and do see if disney surprises us with anything. but at the same time, im going to be researching and just figuring everything out. just for the sake of it. and who knows, maybe one day in the near future, if disney doest not fulfill our dreams with the muppets, we'll do it ourselves!

thanks for all your kind words. they mean a lot!!!! i love this forum!!!!!!!

-mike!

Cantus Rock

I'm not trying to knock anything down; I'm just looking at it from a realistic standpoint. If you are going to make a fan gathering happen, I'd be more than happy to attend. But I'm skeptical of a massive event being held again, and until I hear otherwise from a major source, there is little that can change my view on that.

If you're all this hopeful and want it so badly, get this thing going! Plan, make arrangements, create a heirarchy of powers for tasking. Being hopeful here isn't going to get the job done. And that is why I'm not easily swayed; we've had these sorts of discussions before, and nothing has come of them. So, prove me wrong here folks; I'd be happy to eat my words.

And you might want to check your facts on the Fraggle Rock set Beaker4Presidnt..It goes beyond Disney where the DVD distribution is concerned. Just FYI..

Beaker4Presidnt
03-29-2005, 03:10 PM

and we are talking about a small-medium fan gathering. you know, a convention. :sing:

Fozzie Bear
03-29-2005, 03:25 PM
I don't see where anybody's being mean or talking down. It's just honest talking.

And to continue that, I still say we need to wait and see what Disney is going to do. They're already plastering Muppets in every outlet they can, so they may have plans up their sleeves. Besides that, I don't see a petition helping anything. It might show some interest, but it still won't change anything. Lots of money goes into a convention like MuppetFest, and that would likely be the concern of the big-whigs at The Mouse.

As far as doing it as a fan convention, we'd have to wait on that and see. I doubt we could get another Live Muppet Show at a fan convention--though, that's not to say a puppet show couldn't be done.

In the meantime, all you folks who are interested in this should be checking out the thread under Puppetry about the 2005 PofA Puppetry Festival. Jerry Juhl will be there showing stuff from Jim Henson's Video Vault and that would be a VERY opportune time for Muppet Fans to get together.

Rob a bank? Sounds like my kinda mission.

christyb

Beauregard

christyb
03-30-2005, 10:34 AM
Uh...Oh. Gotta go guys. I'm need to make a break for it. *runs to the bus, cranks up the engine, and speeds off*

FISH'N'WOLFE

christyb
03-30-2005, 11:41 AM
Hey, jump on in. I think you might be able to open the back door. :)

FISH'N'WOLFE
03-30-2005, 11:45 AM
As soon as I stop dragging my heels I'll try that... *climbs up and pulls on the door* It's locked!

christyb
03-30-2005, 11:48 AM
Uh.. I wonder if I can do this again. *Stands up, lies over seats with feet on the wheel steering, reaches and unlocks the door* Oh man, that did the trick. *looks around* now how do I get back in a sitting postion.

FISH'N'WOLFE
03-30-2005, 11:52 AM
Thanks, well I don't really know. I can operate the gas and the brake with my hands and you can just keep steering with your feet. Now we just need someone to look and tell us where we're going...

christyb
03-30-2005, 11:57 AM
There is no one else. Oh boy, what I wouldn't give for those hypnotized muppeteers right about now.

FISH'N'WOLFE
03-30-2005, 12:03 PM
Ah! I found a periscope under the driver's seat, this should help.

christyb
03-30-2005, 12:05 PM
Thank you! You know. I bet we look absolutely ridiculous.

FISH'N'WOLFE
03-30-2005, 12:13 PM
Indeed, but we are on a ridiculous mission, so it fits. Speaking of which, what bank are we hitting up Christy? I think maybe a Swiss bank would be good.

christyb
03-30-2005, 12:25 PM
Sounds nice those are usually the best ones. But how do you propose we get this puppy over the ocean. I don't know if there are any gadgets left in here from the Muppet raid. Frankly with the two of us I don't know how we could look.

FISH'N'WOLFE
03-30-2005, 12:27 PM
One of us could always push the big red Do Not Push button on the dash... hmmm...

christyb
03-30-2005, 12:30 PM
Oh man, I gotta feeling we need to resist temptation. *tries to reach foot to push button* Well, I can't reach it. How about you.

Vic Romano
03-30-2005, 12:32 PM
Are we still stealing Muppets and Muppeteers? How long and how many threads is this gonna' go over?
I've been in this bus for like, four months now! I'm gettin' car sick...

christyb
03-30-2005, 12:36 PM
*Looks up* Dave you're in the wrong story. Were stealing Muppeteers here (http://forum.muppetcentral.com/showthread.php?t=17352&page=22&pp=15). In this thread we're robbing a bank so we can go to Puppetfest or whatever it's called.

FISH'N'WOLFE
03-30-2005, 12:37 PM
Dave! Good to see you here. Go and hit the red Do Not Push button on the dash! We're heading to Switzerland and robbing banks now!

christyb
03-30-2005, 12:40 PM
We're all a bunch of nutballs ya'll know that? *laughs*

FISH'N'WOLFE
03-30-2005, 12:42 PM
Certified nutballs! Mmmm... making me think of cheese balls, do we have catering on here?

Vic Romano
03-30-2005, 01:16 PM
I don't wanna' push the button! I don't even know what thread I'm in! Ooh! Nutballs! Er, I mean cheeseballs!

christyb
03-30-2005, 01:19 PM
Dave, you gotta push the button. How on earth do you think we're gonna push it??

FISH'N'WOLFE
03-30-2005, 01:22 PM
Yeah, now stop eating all those cheeseballs and slide 'em over to me.

Beauregard
03-30-2005, 01:45 PM
Er, guys. i hate to point out this fact, but we just Muffined this thread. I think we should get back on topic, and carry on this bank robbing thing elsewhere. Just a suggestion.

christyb
03-30-2005, 01:49 PM
How sad. But we already have a RPG going. *sigh* Must get back on topic. What was the topic??

FISH'N'WOLFE
03-30-2005, 01:51 PM
Where would we take it? Besides, what happened over in the "Where do they keep the real Muppet puppets?" thread? If someone wants the thread back they can just tell us and we'll let 'em have it right back. I thought the original topic in here got kind of exhausted anyways.

FISH'N'WOLFE
03-30-2005, 01:53 PM
What was the topic??

Cheeseballs and red buttons!
