I'm curious as to what the best "Muppet Moment" is. I really like the finale to MTM. What's your vote?:p

I like the end scene of TMM best as a group scene, but there really is no better image to me than Kermit strumming his banjo out in the swamp.

I know alot of people say this, but I think it's the closing number to the Harry Belafonte episode of The Muppet Show. ("We come from the fire, we go to the fire.") I think it was one of the skits that Jim Henson himself loved. Even Statler and Waldorf got into it. That's really saying something.

Well, just to re-establish what a huge dork I am, I have to say "Saying Goodbye" from the MTM.

For me, that song means more to me then almost any other Muppet song out there. I guess its sticking out in my head more these days, as my college friends are all graduating and moving to the big city! sniff. The lyrics just kind of resonate, and hit home right now (for those of you wondering, yeah, I've been crying all day - I think bawling or sobbing might be a more appropriate term - as my best friend left town today). Blah! :(

So that's my vote!

I always liked the episode of Muppet Show when the Electric Mayhem did "get by with a Little Help from My Friends" with Janice as the 'virgin sacrifice', and as they walked off the stage Kermit said "All right pagans, nicely worshipped!"
I still giggle everytime I think of it.

There are a lot of great moments. One that sticks out to me is when the Muppets sing "Just One Person" in the finale of "The Muppets Celebrate Jim Henson."

Ooooooh!! That's a good one! How could I forget that one. I always liked Gonzo's poignant moments on the show as well.

I had forgotten about those too.

What about Gonzo singing "My Way" on the The Muppet Show when it was supposedly his last episode?

I've always loved the one shot from The Muppet Christmas Carol where Kermit (as Bob Crachet of course) standS in the street and looks up at the sky with the shooting star flying by.

I though that was a cool little shot, in fact, I wish I had a vidcap of it.

I sort of liked the whole "Kermit in the desert" scene in which he reflects on his trip so far with the ending of him looking up at the shooting star....

Kind of like Grandmaster's idea, but I like this scene better because Kermit is ACTUALLY Kermit....a concept that a few Muppet movies didn't quite grasp :)

So difficult to choose, but my absolutely favourite song on the Muppet Show was 'Kermit in the Hospital Bed' - whenever I hear it I can't get it out of my head...

Doctor! Is there nothing I can take?
I say, Doctor!
To relieve this flipper ache?

Ahh...classic.

I, too, also love the final shot of TMM as the camera pulls back to reveal the huge crowd scene....

My mother recently told me that she used to hate that song but now smiles on the rare occasions when she hears it. Why? Because appearently when I was little, I used to go around singing it non stop for days on end! Ahhhh, how easily we were corrupted by the Muppet Show!

Does anyone know who originally recorded or wrote the song by chance?

radionate - I'm not sure who did 'Lime in the Coconut' originally - but it was written by a guy called Harry Nilson, and seems to be the 'song that made him famous' although I've never heard of him.

"Now let me get this straight! You put the lime in the coconut..........."

Well, I've only seen The Muppet Movie once a long time ago so I don't remember that exact part whereas I've seen Muppet Christmas Carol countless times, so therefore I remembered it more.

My apologies.

Eeeek! My favorite Muppet film - the first one. If you have the chance, see it again. The DVD treatement is pretty cool with a little bit of extra stuff. You should check it out or rent it if it's available. I really feel it is the heart of the Muppets. :D

Oh, don't get me wrong, I plan to watch it again, and hopefully even buy the DVD at some point. Of course, there's plenty of other DVDs out there that I have to buy too, so we'll see what happens. If it makes you feel any better, I haven't seen Muppets From Space yet. ;)

Actually Muppets From Space is really skipable IMHO. If I weren't such a fan of the Muppets I would likely be much more harsh on the film. Pepe was really cool in it though! :)

When I think of the BEST moments, a few come to mind:

In no particular order:

The Fraggles saying goodbye to Doc and Sprocket (It was done so beautifully and was so heartfelt)

Gonzo singing "My Way" (same reason as above)

Peter Ustinov ep. version of "Bein Green"

The Muppets Hosting The Tonight Show

Mr Hooper's death episode

Mahna Mahna

The Muppets singing "Just One Prson" for Jim

Kermit singing with Robin in MCC (walking down the street)

BoyRaisin2

As for Fraggle Rock, I loved "Let Me Be Your Song" by Cantus the Minstrel. It's such a beautiful song. And while we're at it, when all the Muppets sing "Rainbow Connection" in the "30 Years" special. I guess.

My favorite moment is in MTM where Pete the restaurant owner is giving Kermit advice. The "Peoples is peoples" speech. I remember watching that for the first time thinking the whole time, "He's saying something. I know he is..." and when he wraps it up with "okay froggie?"

Kermit was just as confused as I was.

I'd have to say one of my favorite moments on TMS is when Gonzo sings... "For You... I'd wash my hair with stinky glue, I'd put a spider in my shoe, I'd fry my legs and eat them toooo!! FOR YOU!!"

06-04-2002, 04:49 PM
Now there is of course the moments that make you cry or feel really deep(Tribute to JHH, the clips with Harry Belefonte giving that speach to the Muppets on TMS, etc)

But my three absolute favorite Muppets moments:

3. The closing number of TMM...WOW! Also tied with the closing of MTM

2. The finale of Muppet Family Christmas(We so need more
crossovers!)

1. The final number of the Muppet Show Live last december!

50 foot bossmen, pepe, elmo, beaker, kermit, the audience, wow.

Peoples is peoples. I think that was some sort of discrimination against animals, puppets if you will.

Other moments. I'd say Big Bird singing "Bein' Green" and the Muppets singing "Just One Person" at Jim's funeral. Though they were puppets singing songs from children's TV programs (and a Charlie Brown musical), they packed a powerful punch at that moment in time.

CaptCrouton
06-05-2002, 01:18 PM
Really? I thought the "peoples is peoples" bit was just a comedy build up so that you thought that Kermit was going to get an "Aha" moment from Pete, but it didn't make any sense. Thus Kermit answers wryly, "Thanks Pete... That... helped alot."

Most of my family, including my parents, are immigrants. So I have a real appreciation for the comedy of not understanding the person who's talking to you, even when they're speaking English. I lovingly recall an incident when my Opa yelled some kind of question to me across the field, and I didn't comprehend a thing he said. I just knew it was a question by the inflection and accustory at that. He'd get mad when I wouldn't understand him, so I just yelled back non-intelligibly a bunch of syllables. And he said, "Okay..." and kept on walking.

That's why the Peoples is Peoples routine is so ding-dong funny to me. Now it's been a good amount of time since I've seen MTM. Does anyone have the script of that bit?

One of my favourite muppet moments is from a Muppet Show Pigs in Space segment.

The segment starts with a close up of Link's hand drawing some space related objects on a pad of paper with a pencil.

"If the vast outer reaches of the universe is here...

*drawing another x*

...and we're here...possibly..."

Piggy interrupts

"Link, Link...what is that?"

Link replies and points to the object Piggy is referring to.

"That...that's a ducky."

All the while the camera still stays on the Link's hand and the pad of paper.

Very, funny stuff...and there's always more too!

One of my favorite moments, and one of the funniest to me, is when Belafonte is singing 'Day-o' and Fozzie keeps interrupting him...and when they're echoing him, Fozzie is out of sync with the rest of the Muppets...

Belafonte: Daaaaay-o!
Muppets, and then Fozzie: Daaaay-o!-(Fzy'OH!'):o

Hey, Buddy Bert-

On the lines of Pigs In Space, I always loved the episode in which Miss Piggy was so heavy that the Swinetrek was leaning to one side....

Now, that's funny in itself, but then Strangepork has a line - something like, "It'll sure louse up our billiard game tonight!"

Now, again, that's humorous, but still not my favorite part!

Strangepork tells Link that he thinks that he has figured out the problem. Well, Miss Piggy has figured it out too and she snaps at Strangepork when he suggests anything....

OKAY, NOW HERE IS THE BEST PART...

After a moment of silence, Links looks at Piggy and says....

"Hey, I get it now!"

HAHAHAHAHA!! For some reason that is soooo funny to me. Link being so stupid was always a source of great humor for me!!

Does anyone like this bit? I'm anxious to see if anyone finds it as funny as I do!!

Hi Jim,

That is a great sketch, and lots of people agree with you as this sketch was featured during the Muppet Show Live (http://www.muppetcentral.com/articles/muppetfest/tms_live.shtml) performance last December.

"Does anyone like this bit? I'm anxious to see if anyone finds it as funny as I do!!"

I quite agree with you...the timing is excellent and it's very funny throw-away gag. Good stuff, indeed.

Honestly, I think Link is an under-rated character. He's not always a laugh-out-loud funny but he's always doing subtle things that are very very humourous.

And Zoot...You're spot on with the Harry Belefonte "Day-O" sketch. Fozzie's timing is great and really sends that sketch over the cliff for me.

Thanks Ol buddy bert -

That littel scene within the sketch is the kind of universal humor that classroom full of pre-schoolers AND a boardroom full of executives can laugh at.

My favorite moment is Kermit singing "The Rainbow Connection" on the Muppet Movie. I don't know why, but the music on the Muppet movies (And on the Dark Crystal) are the most amazing peices of music I've ever heard in a movie. :)

And just listening to Jim Henson sing for Kermit makes me feel really warm and happy :):)

Yeah, as for Henson's non-Muppet moments, "Labyrinth"'s musical numbers are my favs, particularly the ultra-catchy "Chilly Down."

Chilly Down is my favorite song from the Labyrinth. I absolutely love the fiery's dance. In the behind the scenes feature, its kinda neat to watch how they filmed that.

"Good times, Bad food..."

I adapted the Chili-Down song for my ferrets. Most of the lyrics go with how they act.

As for single mometns, I can't pick one. There are so many that still make me laugh 'till I doubt my own continence.
However, my 2 favorite scenes are in TMM from when Kermit and Piggy meet for their romantic dinner 'till The Divine Ms P beats the snot out of the guys who hurt "the little F-O-R-G". (Yeah, technically its more than one scene, but I hoped none of you would notice.)
My other is the jousting scene from Camelot on TMS. The one where they couldn't pay for the rights to the songs from the musical Camelot, so they just used bits of other songs. An odd choice, I know, but it always cracks me up.

That (and a clip of the animated version on Muppet Babies) is the only one I have on tape. Loved it though.

Other than the ones mentioned, call me crazy, was the "Seinfeld Babies" segment from the Muppets Tonight Sandra Bullock episode. I'm a huge Seinfeld fan, and rarely miss an episode in syndication (unless the Muppets are on Hollywood Squares!)

And of course
Janice: I made Christmas Cookies!

Cookie Monster: COWABUNGA!!!!! (grabs many quickly and devowers)

Yeah. But I haven't seen Muppet Family Christmas in years.

Zee little F-O-R-G? I loved that part. Mel Brooks is one of my favorite movie people (actor director, etc.) And I especially like his Hitler/gestapo parodies (what he does in that movie). His philosophy isto insult a villain, like Hitler (to laugh at himand all that) instead of making him look like Darth Vader or something. After all, Hitler was evil, but he was just a small little guy. He deserves the mockery and humiliation, and not the fear. I watched an episode of Hysteria, and saw him portayed as Dr. Claw. He's not scary, just a little wimpy jacka** of a man. That's why Hitler/ gestapo pop up in much of Mel Brooks's work (Producers especially).

And I liked the Jewish humor he snuck in, too! calling the head gear a yarmulka! Mel Brooks is so underappreciated!

Well, just call me "She Who Ressurects Old Threads." Anyhoo, my top picks are:

-From the Brook Shields episode of TMS, right before the Jabberwocky scene.
Scooter: Make this a good intro, Chief. This scene needs all the help it can get!
Kermit: Well, at least you're in the scene so you know what it is.
Scooter: (pulling a "Wha-a-t?" face) Have you seen the scene? Even when you know what it is, you don't know what it is!

-From MCC
Any scene with Gonzo and Rizzo interacting as Charles Dickens and...Rizzo.
Robin as Tiny Tim, and then later Kermit/Cratchit's "meetings and partings" speech.

-From MTI
Gonzo: This feels really weird.
Rizzo: You mean that Mr. Arrow's dead?
Gonzo: Yeah. That, and my pants are filled with starfish.
Rizzo: You and your hobbies!
Tim Curry as Long John Silver. If anyone can play a good villan, period, he can.

-From MFS
Seeing Scooter again!
Pepe in a tutu, okay?

Skeeter Muppet
09-16-2002, 01:33 PM
From the Tony Randall episode. Tony, Scooter and Piggy-turned-to-stone are in Tony's dressing room, and Tony is trying out various spells trying to change Piggy back. Each spell he recites alternately changes Scooter into something weird then changes him back to normal again; one time his head turns into Gonzo's with a tuft of orange hair on top! Finally Tony closes the book and says something to the effect of "Nothing happened." Scooter looks up at him in disbelief, then promptly faints. Tony looks at the camera and asks, "Was it something I said?"

From the Julie Andrews episode:
Kermit asks Scooter to find out who the cow backstage belongs to. So...
Scooter: (going up to the cow) Who do you belong to?
Kermit: Scooter!

Muppet Newsflash: The newsman getting pelted with 10,000 Ping-Pong balls...and one bowling ball.

Love the Ferret!:D
