As the Save Fozzie poll is no longer relevant, I have decided to start a fresh thread to capture what is now happening-the Muppet Photo Puppet Replicas line contining with a new company.
This is now where I will post updates.Recapping the latest-Disney is about to present the company with a contract to sign. The Company is keen to start, and hope to have something to show at this year's Comic Con,at San Diego, july 23-26,with a preview night of July 22.I can now add that the company is not Sideshow.

I suppose this thread should become a "sticky". I started this thread because the Save Fozzie poll/thread is out of date and getting too long. There will be an announcement BEFORE july 23rd,
but I dont know how much before.Basically, this thread is for communicating information as it is approved to do so.

It's great to know that the line is continuing. I'm glad that I have Kermit, but I would love to add Animal and Gonzo while they are still on sale (are they?). :):concern::halo:

Thanks for clearing that up. I'm anxious to hear some information! Well, we know it's not Sideshow. I guess they tried their hand at Muppets and moved on after the slow (but eventually solid) sales of the busts. I'm thinking it's Gentle Giant. Guess we'll have to wait a while. :)

You can still get Animal and Gonzo for $199 from Amazon. The prices seem to have stablised and went up slightly as the stock gradually lessons on the market.

A company that is kinda like Side Show Collectibles. They make statues and maquettes from various movies. You can go to there website here:

frogboy4
05-28-2009, 12:19 AM
I can understand not launching this new licensor Muppet poser line with a large character like Fozzie Bear, but I really hope they do. They could go with a Reporter Kermit as I have suggested, a smaller character like Rizzo or Pepe, or maybe even Miss Piggy or Beaker. Just spit-balling. I still hope it's Fozzie even if he is difficult to ship due to his largeness. :o

Telly
05-28-2009, 04:32 PM
I think Pepe would be a good choice as a first poser. He's widely recognized.

rtgentry
05-28-2009, 04:41 PM
I disagree with Pepe. People have a hard enough time tell Rowlf from Fozzie, or is it Fuzzy, or Fonzie Bear. I think Miss piggy would be a great way to kick it off. Even Rowlf or Scooter if not Fozzie. At this point I will take Pepe to get things rolling.. :)

frogboy4
05-28-2009, 04:48 PM
In my experience most young folk remember Pepe's name more than Fozzie Bear's. It's weird and kind of sad, but it's out there. However, the older collector with more cash to spend on such items would likely prefer a Fozzie Bear. Heck, these days people can't even spell Jim Henson correctly. :)

MuppetCaper
05-28-2009, 06:07 PM
But most people from the 70's will remember Fozzie over Pepe. I didn't know who Pepe was until I realized they made another Muppet show in the early 90's Most of the older generation will remember Fozzie due to movies and the Muppet Show. I ask people today if they know who Pepe is and they didn't even know who he was let alone a puppet from a show. You say Fozzie the Bear and most everyone will remember Him with Kermit and Miss Piggy.

goldengonzo
05-28-2009, 07:56 PM
But Fozzie is eight feet tall! Most people don't have room for a 9-foot Muppet. Pepe is bite sized and would look great on my desk.

Fozzie is not eight or nine feet. He's about half that.

goldengonzo
05-28-2009, 07:59 PM
Fozzie is not eight or nine feet. He's about half that.
I was exaggerating for effect, but 4-feet is still a lot. I have one of those 4-foot Kermit dolls and I have a hard time finding somewhere for him to hang out. I can't exactly display him on a shelf.

Nick22
05-28-2009, 09:13 PM
I would love to see Fozzie, but I doubt it'll be him first. I mean, there's a possibility. I'm guessing that it's going to be one of the more well-known characters. I'll bet it's gonna be either another Kermit, another Gonzo, another Animal, Miss Piggy, Pepe, and possibly Rizzo. I don't think there there is a very high possibility of ANY of the other characters being done first. Maybe Beaker could be a possiblility, but I'd rather have him and Bunsen done at the same time.

frogboy4
05-28-2009, 09:50 PM
If I were the Frog in Chief of the poser company...from a marketing standpoint I'd make a reporter Kermit first to stimulate sales. I would then go and make the bear. As a fan, I would make the bear first! Starting off with a smaller Muppet would be a good way to test the waters. Still, I hope it's the bear!

I want to see the ENTRIE Electric Mayhem. I need to see it eventually achieved. Animal, Zoot, Dr. Teeth, Floyd, Janice, and Lips. All with their instruments and EVENTUALLY the Electric Mayhem bus. Will this happen? Doubt it. But I can dream can't I? I'm sure that first, they will do Reporter Kermit. Kermit is THE face of the Muppets. Without him, who knows if they'll even be able to get PASSED Fozzie.

It's still going to be China. As much as it pains me to say it, that's the only place they can still be made inexpensively enough so that we (collectors) can still afford to buy them. As of a week ago, the price still hadn't been set.

I don't see why Fozzie would be more expensive to manufacture. It always seemed to me like a shipping size and storage issue. I'm sad about Fozzie, but I can see why a company would want to build a larger loyal base before investing in a Fozzie. That must put Rowlf completely out of the running.

I could ONLY see a Sweetums being sold for several thousand dollars at Sharper Image, like the life sized Star Trek or Batman figures they have. And who the heck buys them, unless they're filthy rich?

I don't see why Fozzie would be more expensive to manufacture. It always seemed to me like a shipping size and storage issue. I'm sad about Fozzie, but I can see why a company would want to build a larger loyal base before investing in a Fozzie. That must put Rowlf completely out of the running.

I could see the size being the main problem... not only for material costs, but as you mentioned shipping, handling, storage. Piggy somehow seems to be something that would cost a mint too. I'd like to see where they could go with replicas of smaller characters.... Robin, Pepe, or Rizzo for example (actually, I think I listed all the popular ones). So far there was Kermit, Gonzo, and Animal. And those guys are pretty small compaired to Fozzie, Rowlf, or Piggy

Honestly, I'd like to see the estimates for a Scooter. he doesn't seem that much bigger than Animal. But is he really that popular outside the muppet community to explore?

rtgentry
06-04-2009, 08:49 AM

Nothing is touchy....we are just having fun is all. for me, I am just excited to hear that I get to add to my collection is all...cannot wait to find out more. I would like to see Robin be made as well. Would look good with my Kermit.

scooter would be pretty cool, but im rully hoping that they will release another EM member. maybe even beaker and bunsen. crazy harry would be cool to see, but almost impossible that it will happen. i want piggy so bad! and fozzie! and rowlf! and sam! robin would be cool. and he would be easy to find room to display him.

Probably a couple of hundred dollars or a little more.

I think I'd like Rizzo most of all next. Growing up in the 90's meant that I was mostly exposed to Gonzo and Rizzo via Muppet Christmas Carol, Treasure Island, and Classic Theater and such.

Two packed characters wouldn't likely happen. Just because a character is smaller doesn't make it cheaper to manufacture. Sometimes the opposite. I've seen Pepe's armature for all of his arms and legs. That's delicate and expensive work. He's so tiny. I would expect Kermit, Pepe and Rizzo to be in the running for posers. But I want a Scooter! ;)

Oh yeah....Rizzo also.

You are correct. Muppet sizes are really somewhat relative, but tecnically Gonzo is a hair shorter than Kermit and Scooter is an inch or two taller than Kermit & Gonzo. He'd be a good size for a poser. Costuming would be pretty easy too. I just wish he had a higher profile these days to justify a poser. ;)

When is the press release going to release already? Should be any day now, right muppetperson?

So looking forward to this anouncement. Especially what character is they are planning to do and seeing the prototype for it is going to be awesome! ;)

My friends are anxious for the press release too! Cuz then maybe I'll talk about something else besides how excited I am to find out what company is going to be making them and who is in their line-up! :o

They give inaccurate a whole new meaning! ! !

They have made some Back to the future 'replica's' recently and to say they were flawed was an understatement. There needs to be a definitive distinction between toys and replicas and from what I seen from Diamond Select, they do not understand that.:attitude:

I doubt they are the new company though as they deal largely in Toys - I guess time will tell

I tried reading through it, but am so lost on what we are waiting for... Its a new Replica? Not Fozzie? Even though we have seen pictures of him? :o

MR lost the Muppet poser license and we are waiting to hear what other company is taking it over and their character lineup. We have heard that it won't be Fozzie Bear.

Yeah, we sell Diamond Select in the store and it's really hit-or-miss. However, their Angel puppet (http://www.diamondselecttoys.com/store/product_images/7/74219/001_big.jpg) poser and replica was nice. It's also very expensive. If they are the company let's hope it's something closer to this than that kind of bland Back to the Future stuff.

I have never got anything from Diamond Sellect. I didn't even know they made replica stuff. I wonder if they are the ones making the larger Star Wars dolls that have a talking chip in them. Those don't look good at all. Sideshow does better with the 12" dolls.
