Okay, in the Muppet Central interview with Steve Whitmire, Steve said that he started performing Ernie when some talking Ernie toys were being produced. Now, does anybody have any idea what toys he was referring to? I don't think I've ever seen any info on any such talking Ernie toys. It would be interesting to know what Ernie toy gave us Steve's first performance as the character.
And it is interesting that they wanted to make a talking Ernie toy with new lines, as opposed to existing recordings by Jim Henson.

I don't think so. Sleep and Snore Ernie came out in 1997 (and was actually that years hot christmas toy, following the previous years Tickle Me Elmo). Steve Whitmire had taken over as Ernie by 1993.

LOL! And I had that one too, and the 'Tickle Me Ernie'. I'm guessing that came out AFTER the infamous Tickle Me Elmo but it still sounds like Jim's voice.
