Did anyone own any of the childrens book that came out in the 70's and 80's?

I had the one where Grover didn't want you to turn the page because he said there was a "Monster at the End of this book"

I also remember getting out "Ernie gets Lost" from the library. It potrays Ernie as a childlike character who goes to a department store with Maria and they get separated. I really was able to relate to this as a child, because it happened to me a couple of times.

Hello Grunndgetta2800, and yup- I have a lot of SST books from the 70s, (mostly) 80s and 90s. Mostly Golden Books, but I have a few others too. I definately had 'The Moster At The End of This Book', in fact... i think that's still in print! I also have a sort-of sequal to it with Elmo, which came out in the 90s. Hmm... my memories a bit fuzzy at the moment, but once I get them all out (I put them in the garage not so long ago), I could post a list of them all. :)

i had the treasury, which had some of the little golden books' content in it, shrunk down so more of their pages could fit on one treasury book page. my favorite part of that was grover's alphabet where he forms each of the letters with his cute little furry body,:super: and says rhymes & holds objects that begin with the letter, and as usual, over-exerts himself so the last picture is not a letter, it is a tired monster.

This was back in the day before Elmo moved center stage... Grover used to be the cute monster everyone loved.

Know where a good place to find old SS books is? Goodwill. I was there just yesterday, and I found all these obscure old books and Sesame Street Library treasuries...

The first SS picture books that were written by staff members were my favorites... Monster at the End of the Book, The Oscar Book, How to Be a Grouch (written and drawn by Carol, so the book, in a sense WAS written by Oscar himself... LOVE that one.)

I have so much of these old ones lying around somehwere, but I don't know where exactly.

I know my sister has one book. Elmo's Tricky Tongue Twisters, which came out in 98/99, but I think that is the only one in my house.

But just to stay on topic, I have so many Sesame Street books in my Muppet cllection, some of them from when I was really little. I'm on the verge of find books from the Muppets to add to the collection as well.

I don't know if anyone is still on this subject but I thought that I would bring it up anyway. My grandparents used to have this one Sesame book from I believe the mid-70's that they kept their for us grandkids. It was one of those Playskool spiral-bound board books and it was illustrated by Michael J. Smollin (I think it was the same as the other two books "A Day in the Life of Ernie and Bert" and "Can You Tell Me How to Get to Sesame Street"). I'm not sure of the exact title, but it was one of those books based on the song, "People in your Neigborhood". Each page showed the Muppet characters in it the different jobs they had:

Grover: Firfighter
Big Bird: Mailman
Oscar: Librarian
Count von Count: Barber
Cookie Monster: Baker
Ernie & Bert: Grocers
Herry Monster: Pet Shop Owner
Granny Fanny Nesserolde: Tuba Player in the Orchestra
Roosevelt Franklin: Teacher

I think there was also another book that Mike Smollin did for the Playskool series that was of The Count giving a tour of his castle. Does anyone remember these two books? I'd love to see if my grandparents still have the Neigborhood book I'm talking about.

wow, i just bought a book & cd set published in 2007 that i am VERY impressed with. i highly recommend Get Your Grouchies Out (http://www.amazon.com/dp/1590696107/ref=asc_df_1590696107801106?tag=stylefeeder-20&creative=380337&creativeASIN=1590696107&linkCode=asn), which is four little board books & a cd, narrated by Bob. the cd includes two songs & a narration of each of the books, which are all on the theme of feelings. all of the books are kind of cute, but the first one is about poetry and opens with the definitions of an acrostic poem, cinquain poem, limerick, haiku, and alliteration, and gives examples of each as well as picture poems, descriptive poems and rhyming. now that's what i call respecting kids' intelligence and encouraging their creativity. :wisdom: they have a similar set called Celebrate School narrated/sung by Alan, which I'll have to get, now that I've seen the quality of this one.

I have too many Sesame Street books to mention, most of them I've had since I was a child.
I have two copies of The Monster at the End of This book. I have had them since I was six. The first one was the regular Little Golden Book version, I think my Dad gave that to me. The second one was given to me by my aunt for Chirstmas, it was in a larger size.
Yesterday I saw a third version in Target with a CD. I must say, I was unaware of that up to that moment.
