Does anybody know where I'd be able to get a professional custom Muppet-type puppet for a pretty agreeable price (around $200-250) and preferably on the US east coast?

your asking alot and offering very little
you might find a hobbist , or a ebay seller
but that amount of money doesnt even cover Materials, let alone the time involved in designing and Building the puppet

Hmmm... I didn't even think of that.
Well, if that's the case then it looks like I'll be Ebay bound. My tight budget wouldn't be able to fit in a custom puppet in this case.

It seems I have gotten lucky. I've got a lot of PM's from pupet builders here telling me I could get help from them. So that's a good sign I hope!
I'd make sure to get samples of their work before entering into an agreement of any kind. The term "professional" has many levels of meaning across many different people.
Truly you do get what you pay for.

Just so you know,
I appreciate that you like my work, But I do not now, nor will I ever build un-licensed Replicas of Characters I do not own, This is not the place for a further discussion about that particular topic, but their are plenty of builders who don't mind ignoring copyright , and trademark laws, but I am not one of them.
The building and selling of such a puppet would violate the copyrights of those puppets, and thier rightful title holders., and would be and incredibly disrespectful thing for me to do.

I completely respect the copyright issue and will just have to keep my fingers crossed and hope that the new fraggle rock movie influences master replica and the jim henson company to join together and give us some replicas.
