Attaching a Mechinism

After you Create any kind of Mechinism (Ex. Blinking eyes, Eyebrow, eylids, wiggling ears, Etc.) how would you attach it to a puppet afterwards?

My guess would be you could glue or sew it in...

I heard they use those to control the mouths in the Sesame Street Costumes for touring stage shows. Although I am not quite sure how they attach it on there...
