McSource... (http://smallscreen.monstersandcritics.com/news/article_1338677.php/The_Schwartz_is_with_G4_Spaceballs_The_Animated_Se ries)

G4 Network announces that starting in Fall 2007, a brand new animated series based on Mel Brooks' classic comedy "Spaceballs" will be available on G4.

G4 is the fastest growing network on television for 2006, and was launched in April 2002.

The network is now in 62 million cable and satellite homes nationwide. G4 is also the #1 podcasted cable network in America and a leader in VOD, their target audience is the Comic-Con demo: males 18-34, fascinated with video games, the Internet, broadband, technology, comics and animation.

The iconic Brooks co-wrote the "Spaceballs: The Animated Series" pilot with his frequent collaborator Thomas Meehan according to G4, who will oversee all writing for the first 13 episodes. Brooks will also lend his voice to President Skroob and Yogurt.

"Spaceballs" was a classic 1987 Mel Brooks parody of the sci-fi blockbusters like "Star Wars" that combined schtick and inside humor with hilarious visuals. Rick Moranis played "Dark Helmet" in a cheeky tip of the hat to Darth Vader.

Now, if you were unaware of Brooks and "Spaceballs," someone should smack you with a shoe.

The cartoon promises the same brand of comedy. Look for the legendary Brooks satirical eye spoofing the biggest blockbusters of today as well as every genre of entertainment from movies and reality TV to culture and politics.

Neal Tiles, President of G4, said “As the go-to network for men 18-34, irreverent humor is one of the benchmarks of our programming philosophy, as is animation. Mel Brooks’ classic movies Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles are just as relevant to our young male audience today as they were when they were first released. His brand of humor will resonate well with our viewers.”

Additionally, G4 provides breaking news and insider opinions on these topics as well as the broader culture young men are interested in. The company is headquartered in Los Angeles and is owned by Comcast Corporation.

Heh... I could have sworn I posted this news a while abck, but apparently I didn't.

Wikipedia has an article about it complete with artwork.

They clearly decided on a blocky style, perhaps to send up "Clone Wars"

I think you did make a thread about it, but I couldn't find it.

It's good to know this is actually happening, with Brooks' involvement.

Let's see...

There was Spaceballs the T-shirt, the coloring book, the lunch box, the cereal, the flame thrower and the doll. Why not an animated series?

Not just his involvement, but his voice as well. He currently does the voice of "Whitey the Sheep" on Piggly Winks and he has done various other voice overs before, including Himself on the Simpsons, and a main character in the movie Robots (I forgot the name, though).

Too bad none of that stuff could ever exist. He made a deal with Lucas to never every release merchandising. Which is a shame, since I would love to go around wearing Spaceballs the T-Shirt and Spaceballs the Baseball cap.

Yeah. It would have been neat to have a talking Yogurt doll!

I can't wait to see this series since I loved the movie so much. :) And it looks like Daphne Zuniga, who originally played Princess Vespa in the movie, will be one of the voices in this cartoon series.

Yeah. Not like she's really doing anything these days. The only one I'm worried about is who are they gonna get to replace John Candy as Barf?

I can honestly see most actors coming back to do their voices. Rick Moranis could, Dom Deluise is a possibility (dispite the fact Pizza the Hutt died at the end of the film). I don't think we could see Bill Pullman, but he might com,e back. You never know.

LOL, yeah, Pizza the Hutt ate himself.

BTW, where IS Rick Moranis? The last thing I remember him being in (although I didn't see it) was Big Bully with Tom Arnold.

Was the flame thrower real?

Rick Moranis released a country album in 2005 called The Agoraphobic Cowboy.

It was interesting, to say the least.

No. There was no official Spaceballs merchandise marketed. I was quoting from the movie.

It was a good album. His voice really hasn't changed much.

Meanwhile, Strange Brew? Best movie ever.

The animation to this show looks so flawlessly awesome. This may sound weird, but the way Princess Vespa looks almost reminds me of how Princess Clara looks on Drawn Together. lol!
