Hot Fudge was a nationally-syndicated children's educational TV show with puppets. It was produced in Detroit and originally aired on WXYZ-TV, before going national. The show ran between 1976 and 1980, and aired (at least in my area) very early on Saturday and Sunday mornings, around 6:00 or 6:30 a.m.

Arte Johnson of Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In hosted the show in its first season. Actor/comedian/singer Larry Santos took over from season two onward.

The most famous puppet from the show was Seymour, a green fuzzy creature, who acted as Larry's sidekick.

The series was a mix of educational segments, comedy sketches, songs, blackout gags and puppets galore, all wrapped up in psychedelic visuals and music, particularly in its funky theme song.

I haven't seen this show since the mid-1980s. I can't even find much on the web about it, despite its now-cult status as a favorite 1970s artifact. The show was so popular, in fact, that several albums featuring the cast were released during its run. Today the show seems largely forgotten.

I did, however, find one clip on you tube. The furry green guy is Seymour.

If I remember my early to mid-1980s early-morning weekend programming, it was Hot Fudge, Captain Kangaroo, Davey & Goliath, then cartoons on Saturday, and the Three Stooges followed by Laurel & Hardy on Sunday.

Saturday nights a local station ran back-to-back episodes of The Muppet Show, starting at 7. Eventually, another local station began running two eps. of TMS on Saturday mornings, starting at 10.

Yep, I remember those old commercials, too.

BTW, looking at that clip today, I can't help but think Seymour kinda sounds like Jim Carrey. I always remember he had a goofy voice, but now it sounds very Carrey-esque.

First off... WOW I could have sworn I was already registered here lol....

Now onto the topic at hand HOT FUDGE RIGHT ON WOOOOOOO!

I am one of a very few people in my area who remember the show, and for the longest time EVEN I questioned the show's exsistance lol.

more tidbits about the show....

It was filmed right in my home town of Detroit, was syndicated to 3 or 4 states by Season 2 when they brought in Larry Santos (who later went on to be the voiceover man for Chevy Trucks.... Remember the singing... "It's the heartbeat of america..... That's Todays chevrolet" )

The band on the show was called "The Electric Fuzz"

To my knowledge there are NO VHS or DVD's of the show :( BUT.. you can in fact get a few CD's and such via Amazon...

There is also a killer website (rarely updated though) that deals with all the old shows from Detroit and whatnot, and they had/have a great thread about Hot Fudge....

I loved Hot Fudge. The humanoid puppets were very realistic with their round heads and all. I especially liked Glen Denver's name. Now that was original

This is Marylin O'Connor Miller's website, she was a key puppeteer on the show. She's a terrific lady with alot of puppetry under her belt! I'm willing to bet if you sent her an email, she'd probably give you some insight on the show!

this isn't about Hot Fudge, which i never saw in my youth, i did look at that link though, crazy... but it has to do with an old puppet-ish show from my youth that i have been trying to remember/find forever. The only thing i remember about it was that it had a grown man living with a little dragon guy and i think the dragon was a puppet. it's not Eureka's Castle. if anyone could help me with a name or a few more details, i would be so grateful.

thanks,
MK

This is the first time I've heard of Hot Fudge, but has anyone else heard of "The Froozles"? It had live actors and puppets. The main actress's role was "Muffin", and in the theme song it said things like "where puppets are people and people are puppets too!", and "Put on a smile, you've arrived... in the land of Frooze!" The puppets were marionettes and I think some hand puppets. I think it was made in the 70's, but I was watching reruns in the 90's before "Combat!" came on the local channel. It was cheesey and creepy to me, but the creepy part is due to the marionettes looking a little scary (but I think most marionettes look scary... not my favorite kind of puppet...). Anyway... has anyone else seen this show?

P.S. "Hot Fudge" looks like it was way better than "The Froozles".
