Here's some news about the film for all you fans...
http://muppetnewsflash.blogspot.com/2006/12/fraggle-rock-film-update.html

And to answer the question...yes, Traveling Matt will be in the film (as will the Trash Heap)...but there's more juicy information. I don't want to spoil it all, so you'll just have to follow the link to get the full scoop.

Yes! That news is great! Especially about Travelling Matt. The news of celebrity cameos wanting to appear is slightly distressing because those can end up being just cheesy...but I love that there is still a big famous fanbase for the Fraggles.

"However when discussion moved towards the Gorgs, Zappa got suspiciously tight-lipped. "I can't say too much about the Gorgs right now," he stated. 'That stuff is top secret.'"

Hmm, well that's interesting!

It's nice to hear more information, it makes the new seem more real! Hopefully it'll work out. :)

My day is made. Uncle Travelling Matt will be in the movie. I love it. I cant wait for late 2008 or early 2009.

Hmm, new song by famous singers/songwriters of today? I just hope the fraggles don't go punk.

Well, Punk is actually an older form of music at this point so I'm not that worried (although it wouldn't be my first choice). Hehe

Haha, yeah, but I mean the pop-punk à la Fall Out Boy type of music.

I hope they don't become rappers either. :smirk:

wouldn't it be werid if i was correct while joking about the Gorgs coming to outter space...? I was only joking around.

But thats wikked awasome news... now its really not a "possible" its a definate it seems... or well more def then before.

Too bad its LATE 08 tho.. that kinda sucks... i was lookin forward to 07... then i figured they'd push it to 08.. but not as far as 08 early 09... sounds like a movie they'd release christmas day. n i dont care how much of a traditon it is to stay home x-mas day.. i'm goin to the first showing

Bit concerned about the "famous fans" contributing songs for the movie and I'm a bit dubious about the celebrity cameos, don't rully particularly care for those. Oh well, guess all we can do is wait until after the holidays and see if more news gets divulged then.

Wow. This seems rather interesting. I somehow think that the musical guests could somehow work, but hopefully they dont overload with cameos and not focus on the Fraggles. Overall, seems really exciting, and since Brian is directing, I have some more hope, he did such a great job with MCC and MTI, I seriously cannot wait.

The Muppet Movie cameos were great because they were funny, and yet it was still always about the Muppets. They just brought their friends along, too. That's what the Fraggle movie should be, too.

So what would one need to do to get in on this? Even as a backround fraggle stand in or an extra? I have done puppetry and would live to send an audition tape, if I just knew where to send it. ALSO I have done some extra work. I can be seen in "Return to Halloweentown" lol. I know! im one of the kids at the lunch table that do magic for the Sinister Sisters. But yeah. Can anybody help me out to know where to go next?
Jerry?
I talked to Terry and he said he hasn't even been called to be part of the film yet. None of the Canada crew has he says. Which Kinda sucks. But if any info could be brought to me I would love that. Anybody from Henson? I think Karen is on here, and I know Jerry is. I met Brian Henson a while back and he says the only way to be part of them is to pretty much have a foot in the door. I have a foot...I just need a door!

I am so glad this is in the hands of a rabid FR fan who is pretty much going to make a fanboy film, instead of some suit hired that doesnt know much about what the direction should be.

I also got the deeper subtext about the article from Zappa, not so subtly eluding to the state of geo political affairs these days and I agree...the world needs a Fraggle Rock film more than ever now.

Oh I say start trying to get connected any way ya can right now, I sense youd make a wonderful addition to the cast. The FACT Terry hasnt been contacted shows how pre pre pre production they are in right now.
Thats why they say late 2008/spring 2009, as they just dont know...most their film energy is on filming dark crystal 2 which comes out in a year i think.

I think its pretty much guaranteed the main 5 will be played by goelz/whitmire/nelson/prell/mullen...I dont see why they wouldnt.
Ok, maybe not guaranteed, but still.

But since this IS JHC and not Disney, ya have a chance at getting in.

I hope the celebrity cameos will be performing characters in the film because (and I always complain about this 'un) Hulk Hogan's cameo was just a break from the film and out of place. Yuck.

I'm excited about Zappa's vision, though. He's on target, I think.

I hope they don't stray TOO far from the theme song, but if they extended it to add in the lines that got cut from the original version of the theme song that would be cool.

12-10-2006, 06:39 PM
yeah or use the (in some part of the movie) the Fraggle Rock Punk theme song! i actualy like that, as im NOT a punk music kinda kid, my brother burnt me a CD a few yeras ago, i STILL have it :smirk: has ANYONE else heard this version?

superboober
12-10-2006, 08:22 PM
A few years ago when I was in college, one of my associates used the "punk" version for a piece in the university's annual film festival. It proved to be one of the parts the audience liked the most.

I agree with much of the sentiment expressed so far; as long as they don't go overboard with the cameos (for whatever reason I wouldn't mind seeing Macaulay Culkin used if he's interested) and musicians, they'll be just fine, and it's good to know Brian will helm it. The best way to go with the theme, I think, is somewhere between the original and a comtemporary piece; they should probably go with a singer/band that would have presumably grown up on the show.

You think Jerry Nelson will be a part of it? I figured they would be getting someone else, like Bill Barretta, to take over for Jerry. I definitely hope Jerry will be involved but I have my doubts.

Barry Lee
12-11-2006, 02:43 PM
For some reason, I almost do think Jerry will be involved as Gobo, he seems to really enjoy the character and I think Zappa/ Henson would both be smart enough to use him as Gobo. Even if he just did the voice and someone else Puppeteered him, I would like that versus some new guy completely voicing and puppeteering Gobo.

No, but the Trash Heap is MADE OF cookies. ;) Even better!

Honestly, I'm not picky at all about how this movie is being made and stuff. I have faith. The Fraggles are loved by so many people that I think they are going to take really good care.

What I'm interested in, is that they will probably have to rebuild the puppets - I seriously doubt they are in tact after 20 some odd years.

WembleyFraggle, if you have connections, go for it! We will watch for you. :D I would love to be anywhere near this movie but I have no idea how that would happen at all... I DO sing and act **cough cough** ;) But if you can get involved some how go for it, that would be so cool.

Classic Muppet films have always used celebrity cameos though.

The Muppet Movie:
Dom DeLuise
Bob Hope
Richard Pryor
Milton Berle
Steve Martin
Cloris Leachman
Orsen Wells
James Coburn
Mel Brooks
Paul Williams
Edgar Bergen & Charlie McCarthy

Great Muppet Caper:
John Cleese
Peter Falk
Peter Ustinov

Muppets Take Manhattan:
Joan Rivers
Liza Minelli
Gregory Hines
Art Carney

Follow That Bird:
John Candy
Chevy Chase
Sandra Bernhardt
Dave Thomas
Joe Faherty
Waylon Jennings

I know I'm forgetting some. They are part of the tradition of Muppet projects. As long as their celebrity doesn't pull focus from the plot then I don't have a problem.

Well, since he still regularly performs on Sesame Street, I think he is still capable of atleast voicing the character for the film.

The Count
12-13-2006, 05:49 AM
Agreed... If the celebrity cameos are as a character that makes sense as part of the movie's overall story, then I'll be OK with their appearances.
But if it's just a momentary appearance like Hulk Hogan in MFS or Kelly Rippa, Molly Shannon or Triumph in VMMCM then I'd be a bit put off.

Oh well... It's far too early to make any sort of opinion... Just wait and see what nuggets of information we get released as time moves on and the production gets movin' right along.

Oh dear me please say it isn't so! The horror!

The Count

*Leans scythe close to Bo: Do not mention that name...

As far as the Gorgs, if Marjory Trash Heap will be in the movie... Well, it makes sense the Gorgs would be too, but we'll have to wait and see.
As far as Richard's characters, not sure. Kim and the other RHLC'ers would know the totality of his FR characters, but I think Junior Gorg is the most known of them all. Maybe they'd get Ricky Boyd to at least voice Junior, though I'd like an appearance by Gillis and Storyteller as well. Then again, if it's just the one character, I dunno if the Gorgs would be involved in this.

Hoping for the best though, unsure what to expect.

Jerry Nelson still does Count Von Count (last i recall) so i don't see why he won't do Gobo unless somethin happens now till then... ::knocks on wood::

He does a REALLY great job and i wouldn't want anyone else doing it. Even when i had to do Gobo for an internet radio show, i felt i couldn't compare, no matter what comments i recieved.

And ya know... reading through these post and getting up to WembleyFraggle's post... it sounds really inspiring to even get myself in the door... but at this point i have no public resume for puppeteering... that shall change once i get my show going in Spring... if all goes well till then.

Y'know the writers are gonna be really unhappy that we've guessed the big suprise about what they're gonna do with the Gorgs ..... they're gonna have to change it now, poor Snoop Dog, canned from TWO Muppet films now!

Hey Bo... To answer your questions...
Jerry Nelson is from the state of Oklahoma, USA.
Gobo Fraggle might not be Canadian per say, but given his dialectical mannerisms I'd say it's perfectly OK to think of him as honorarily being of Canadian heritage.
Steve Whitmire performs Sprocket, not Jerry.
Is okay though... You make a booboo like I made a booboo. Is no worries hokay.

HA! funny.

No, I was just imagining the worst possible scenario for a Fraggle film. ;)

But let's not start on that again.

And, here they are now, The Pussycat Fraggles!!!

But seriously, I really hope they don't 'modern-ise' (erm, is that a word?) the Fraggles to try and make them appealing for today's audience. :p

And, here they are now, The Pussycat Fraggles!!!

The Fraggles in bikinis, now THAT my friend would be oscar winning ... except for Travelling Matt. I think Zappa is just letting the Fraggle fans think they're getting this traditional Fraggle flick, then last minute he gets Eminem in to do the theme song and lets Scooter do a cameo with the lampshade on his head again.

so I have no idea whose a "big hot star" in the tv world.

People I COULD see cameoing in this movie:

Andy Dick
Chris Parnell
Andy Samberg
Patton Oswalt
Brian Posehn
Kal Penn
Robert downey Jr
Phillip Seymour Hoffman
Paul Giamani
Jonathan Stewart
Seth Green
Jeneane Garafalo
Fred Savage
Kel Mitchell
Conan Obrien
Bill Cosby
Paul Giamatti
Sandra Oh
Ray Ramano
Robin Williams
Scarlett Johansen

There's a BUNCH in that list that aren't timeless enough to make a cameo in a Muppet Film.

I liked the cameos in The Muppet Movie and Great Muppet Caper best. They played characters other than themselves, and that kept the movie timeless. Robin Williams and Bill Cosby could play roles like that. Chris Parnell is from Memphis, so I'd have to push for him. SNL folks are usually good for roles like cameos, since that's what they did on the show basically (sketch comedy is HARD).

Luke

I think Andy Dick would be cool as a crazy scientist or something. Robin Williams would be quite good in any Muppet production.

I'm all up for the cage dancing .... but i can sense Warrick starting to get another petition up to ban us from ever having anything to do with the Fraggles EVER, lol.

By the way, does anyone have a contact for Zappa?

Zappa? Probably smoke signals? I dunno. I tried using smoke signals recently and got in trouble as an attempted arsonist. Wasn't my fault the neighbor's dog got so close to the fire.

Anyhow, I thank Warrick every time I put in a Fraggle season DVD. I do wonder what his take is on the movie--where is he now anyhow. Does he come on MC anymore, or just at TP?

I miss all my old friends. At least we have Luke back. YAAAYYYY LUKE! Melmac, represent!

i'm usually not in forums, but i'll add my 2 cents to this one. i'm not comfortable with "celebrities" with fraggles. that was the main difference for me between fraggles and muppets. there was a sort of mythological feeling to the fraggles. of course traveling matt interacted with humans in modern day, but that was about adventure, learning and comedy. i don't want the celebrity interaction to be like product placement. i just don't want the focus of "a children's show to bring peace to the world" to loose it's focus. i care more about art and creativity in my entertainment than "stars". however, i feel zappa as an artist understands this and i wish him good luck. i am the same exact age as him and used to watch every new premier of fraggle rock on HBO. personally, i would prefer they just stay in the rock and go crazy! that being said, IF celebrities are ultimately going to be used, i feel musicians would be the more appropriate cameos. i think it would maybe be even cooler if the cameos were just dvd extras as music videos (kind of like the old fraggle songs laserdisc) my list is not JUST favorites, but some that feel kind of right singing or playing together:

bjork (with red)
flea (with webley)
jack white (with gobo)
thom york (with boober)
tori amos (with cotterpin)
aphex twin (with doozers)
arykah badu (with mokey)
george carlin (with cantus)
brian henson (with sprocket)
david bowie (with uncle matt)
wierd al (with convincing john)
bruce campbell (fighting gorgs)
bob dylan (with the trash heap)
mel brooks (with oldest fraggle)

HAPPY LIFE DAY!

Perhaps the dog knew smoke signals and came to see what was going on - that'd be my defence in court. You should get Muley to represent ya! And our friend Warrick, last seen hocking Muppet merchandise on the forum so he could get to Sesame Street - but posts here occasionally. I never knew that when the theme went "How to get, how to get to Sesame Street", the answer was Ebay. And to think Big Bird went to all that trouble of walking there in "The Muppet Movie" !!!

I am exstatic about the Fraggle movie! Really excited!

I know its terrible to keep people in suspense like this but when I was in NY at Hensons I heard some wonderful things!

I think Celebrity Cameos, appearing as themselves is TERRIBLE.

Or downdates? Or just dates in general? Any fresh news, any hot gossip from the set? Is it true that Red Fraggle and Gobo have been sharing more than just scenes together? Any truth to the rumors that Boober's obsession with cleanliness has brought the film to a standstill while his copious demands are met?

I can't confirm, but i did hear that they've done a product placement deal for washing powder. In the movie Boober will only wash his socks in new Eazycleanee detergant as they aren't whiter than white with any other brand.
