I forgot about this 'til the other day but, last Sunday ( Nov. 5th ), Stewie made reference to "Fraggle Rock" on "Family Guy". He & Brian where duped into the military and somehow, the punchline ended with Stewie saying " Fraggle Iraq ". To my limited knowledge, this is the 2nd reference to "Fraggle Rock" made on TV's FOX's "Family Guy".

So, uhh... anyone else catch that? :smirk:

I don't remeber that one, but I do remeber one in the first season where Peter was holding a Rock in his hands and he said, ' here's a Fraggle Rock. ' Not sure excatly what was going on but I do remember hims aying that.

Hmm... I don't recall that. The other reference I've heard was most likely from the first season when Peter mixes up Plymouth Rock with Fraggle Rock. :smirk:

Geez, Family Guy is such a popular show, and the population of "Fraggle" is pretty popular, so they used a reference to Fraggle Rock in Family Guy.
Hee hee!

I just hope they don't say anything derogatory about Fraggle Rock... like the way too many people think it's cool to hint at Bert & Ernie's sexuality. I've never been a fan of that since Sesame Street is supposed to be children's show. :smirk:

Wow, that is cool. They're showing it here at the moment - I'll be listening out for that. I think it would be cool if they had episode where there's a hole in the wall and Stewie actually met Fraggles...that would be so fun.

:excited::excited: at "Fraggle Iraq"

Also, has anyone seen American Dad. The guy who does the voice of Steve, when he speaks in certain tones it reminds me a bit of Gobo.

A friend of mine used to say that Uncle Matt smoked too maney Fraggle Rocks, and that was a joke for years in my household. I sometimes wonder if that's not a little bit true.
I still think Gobo dabbles in the magic shrooms from time to time. You like to explore caves huh? You probably get lost in them on one of your trips and clame you were just on a long voyage. lol
Defantly Boober for sure I mean DREAM DOOZER his dearms look like some kind of bad ascid trip.
I think Wembley might be in the clear though, but who knows after all him and Gobo did live together for a while. No slah I was referring to the mushroom thing. :p
Mokey. Um... a dreamer, a ' visionary ' oh yes you do get ' visions ' allright.
Red could be a catch 20. She dose whatever direction her speatic mind takes her. lol
I hope I'm not introuble again lol

Ooh, I heard the "Fraggle Iraq" line, and it made me laugh.

Yeah, the creator of Family Guy is like a huge muppets fan, because there are a lot of references in the show. I haven't heard many on American Dad, but then again, I don't really watch that show much..

There have been a few on American DAd.

One episode began with Stan watching Elmo, Big Bird, and Cookie Monster talk about sharing. Another had Steve's fat friend have fantasies about Miss Piggy. Another still had Ernie and Bert at a Log Cabin Republican's meeting. Finally, the most current one featured a refference to Maria on Sesame.

I'm a little disappointed that Fraggles have been mentioned in passing, and not used in one of those cut scene things.

Now, THAT would be funny. Since I'm convinced that Seth McFarlene is a member of the board here, why don't we say WE WANT MORE FRAGGLE REFERENCES!!!

It doesn't matter, maybe a reference on Boober working at a laundromat and going crazy, throwing change at the customer and cursing him out. Doesn't matter to me.

It matters to me though. I'm weary of the trendy and socially acceptable vulgarity that comprises TV programing these days. I'd rather they leave the shows with substance alone if all that the writers are able to do is associate tired sexual humor to them so they appeal to the slow & impressionable minds that folks like to sport nowadays.

Can't anybody just be happy with a reference now-in-days? At least they're referencing this instead of not doing anything with it. I personally think that if everything was wholesome and meant for a higher class of sofisticates, than nobody would watch it because it doesn't represent Joe Everyman. Besides, the only substance that the Fraggles are associated with are the stuff that people claim make it more interesting if you know what I mean ;)

Actually, I just remembered Miss Piggy was referenced in an episode of American Dad...a character Barry revealed he was in love with her and she appeared like a ghost to him. :flirt:

That is a terrible view on things man. I pity you if that's how you or anyone actually feels. That defeats the whole intent of Fraggle Rock. Did everyone but me watch the show with the mute stuck on or something? Gads! :smirk:

I watched it without the mute button on, but there comes a time when some people as adults wonder if Jim Henson was on drugs when he thought of this. It's kinda funny to take things out of their element. Like Mr. Rogers cursing, or Sam the Eagle going to nightclubs to pick up women or putting Kermit in the south as a character from Deliverence(which they did beautifully). My point is, that if you take people or things out of their element, sometimes it's funny. Other times, if you put the things that they love and put them in the occupation(Boober as a laundromat owner) that could be funny as well. It's all how you look at it.

Somehow I dont see them making a cut scene for Fraggle Rock. not enough people remember it well enough. Sure they remember the name of the show, and they remember watching it, but how many can name characters, or what they were like? I'm talking about people you run into on the street, rather than people like us who are huge nerds. Frankly I don't think the fandom is big enough; not enough people would get it.

^^^Well, there was a fraggle reference on "Friends" once. That was awesome.

I think it's kind of sad and uncreative when people do that. Some people think Lewis Carroll must have been on drugs when he came up with "Alice in Wonderland". Jeez...it's called "originality", "imagination", "creativity", people...

I know! I mean, I"m sure people have occasionally been inspired by a drug trip, but very rarely are these inspirations useable the next day. (No, I have never done drugs, I've just done research.)

To give all the credit to drugs is belittling the creative potential of the human mind.

Of course, sometimes it's just used as a joke, we understand that. :)

Yeah, but sometimes, you look at the era in which some of these people were in, and you think "Man, they got messed up" I mean, it was the 60s-70s. A lot of people were experimenting with various things. I'm not saying that ALL of them were on drugs, but if you look at Alice in Wonderland, that man seems to either have a lot of imagination, or was doped up. Though, I will give em credit if they were because they used that to their advantage the next day. Writing and producing some of the greatest works of our time.

Well I don't know about that. I mean I write and say some pretty wild stuff and I never touched drugs in my life, just read a lot about it. I had someone discribe to me once what it was lke to be on ascid, they said it was like the colours melting off of things.
I wanted to get an idea what it might be like to see the world with the colours all messed up so I put on a pair of 3D glasses the old school kind with the red and blue lenses, and that gave me an idea what it might have been like.
And another friend of mine said if you use mushrooms you can see mermaids in the lava lamps. I used to own a lava lamp, and would imagine mermaids swimming in it.
I'm sure a lot of the artwork of the 60's were imspired by drug use but I don't think all of it was. Jim probably got some of his phycidelic ideas from the style that was around at the time. Seeing that colour TV was still fairly new so ofcourse you wanted to overassageerate the colour. If Jim was really into drugs he would be too out of it to create anything, but this is just my opinion.

I don't know about that. They made some pretty obscure refferences in that show before. They had a refference to the "Hanker for a hunka cheese" guy. Not to mention the York Peppermint Patty ad. Besides, it's from the 80's time slot most of their refferences come from. I'm just disappointed they only had one Ninja Turtles refference, and that's when Mayor West was watching it on television. They just played a small segment of the theme song, and didn't show it.

I think that's right. The whole idea of what psychedelic looks like has been ingrained in our minds, so a lot of artists use that imagery.

i dunno if i said n e thing here.. thought i did but its no where in sight...

i dont think they should keep making refference to the Fraggles. Its a show about Family Guy, not a show based on spoofin Fraggles... so to make refference to the same thing so many times.. it kinda gets boring.

Its nice to see things like Cookie, or kermit... but when u keep doing it... the "coolness" is gone. Like its awsome that they mentioned it the first time and surprising.. but then they did it again n its getting old... anyone else understand?

I guess it would be nice to actually see them for once... but thats it... end it there. If its an on going thing it dies down.

Family Guy isn't much of a show anyway. Sometimes it cracks me up and sometimes it's just lame. My whole beef is that I don't like it when somet one has to add some negative spin to an otherwise good thing to make it palatible for public consumption. For instance, I didn't at all appreciate Hal Sparks' comment on VH-1's " I Love The 80's " or whatever it's called when he said Fraggle Rock was something to the extent of " puppets on pot ". That gives the impressionable and ignorant minds out there ( and unfortunately there's far too many of these types ) the wrong message. Some people really can't distinguish between what's said in jest and what's true. People in the media need to take more care in what they say to the public. People like the Howard Sterns and Rush Limbaughs. They won't ever do that though and will hide behind their " freedon of speech b.s. " but this is how I feel about the matter all the same. :smirk:

I liked most of Hal Sparks' remarks on "I Luv the '80s" except for the one about Fraggle Rock. Though I can kinda understand, he was probably a teenager when the show was first on. No reason he would have understood it.

I totally agree about the negative spin in the media. The whole attitude is making this a much darker society. I just don't put Family Guy in that category. It's a very witty show. :)

Personally, I watch Fraggle Rock and some of the shows that I watched when I was a little kid, and I think "Why did I watch that? It's just too strange" I think that Hal was coming from the fact that, if you watch it now as an adult, you really don't get the lessons that the show provides, so you think that somebody was smokin something when they made the show. My point was that in that time period, everybody was on something.
I agree that Family Guy should only do Fraggle Rock references every once in a while. There are too many 70s-90's shows to make fun of. Like Turtles, and some of the Disney cartoons.

Y'know, I was thinking of ideas for FR references in Family Guy--most of them involving some sort of ref. to the episode Boober's dream--and I came down to these admittedly strange and weird ones:

Stewie talks to Brian about a weird dream he had, and how it was "almost as strange as that one time I went into Boober's dream." Then flash to Stewie lying in bed, his head in contact with Boober's (mostly off-screen). Once inside the dream, he shouts, "Good Lord!" Then zoom out to a plethora of psychadelic colors, flying Fraggles, laughing Doozers, and other freaky stuff. "What kind of crack-induced dream is this?!"
Peter (or Stewie again), in a dream, is flying through darkness. Then an echo-ey version of "Dream a Dream and See", sung by Peter, Lois, Brian, Meg, and Stewie.
The same as the above, but before the actual dream scene, Peter says something like, "Well, if Fraggles can share dreams, then we people can, too!" Then he runs off, and returns with a Fraggle (Boober or Wembley?)
Stewie finds a mouse hole on the wall. "Pshaw! How dinky!" (Or something like that.) Then he saw, next to it, a larger hole about his height. "Well, this is going to be a problem." Then he stands as Gobo runs out, and returns seconds later with a postcard in hand.
This is just a nonsensical scene. Peter walks into his room when he finds Uncle Travelling Matt writing a postcard to Gobo and skimming through his porno mags. (In case you were wondering, he was writing about his "observations" of the magzines.)
A raccoon knocks over the Griffins' trash can, and Meg is asked by Lois to put it back in. But when she finishes the job, the garbage comes to life as none other than Marjorie the Trash Heap! ... Yeah. :zany: Just weird, crazy, random stuff I thought up while taking a big Spanish test, with a couple of added last-minute details and/or tweaks!
