kermit's Pupils

Hey does any one no where I can get the material use to make the pupils of Kermit.

I have been using yard sale dots, But I got to see one of Terry angus's Puppets and it had sort of a Velvet texture to the pupil it was very nice. I want to get some of it if any one can point me in the right direction!

Hi there the stuff used to make kermit's pupils is flocked sticky backed plastic it is available at craft shops i use it on all my puppets you can see them by going to www.picturetrail.com and search gluvets.

I have used black velvet from a material shop.I think it was called velverette.It was for a different character, but I found the material started freying around the edges.I endered up putting white PVA wood work glue on the back to hold it together.When it dried, then I cut the circles out.Perhaps you could use felt, but it has a bit rougher texture.

If fraying is a problem you can try getting some Fray Check (it comes in a small bottle) from a fabric store and apply that. It dries perfectly transparent and is not nearly as messy as using glue.

it's usually on a roll with all the other sticky backed plastic the flocked is available in black red blue and green.

the rolls of sticky back felted paper can be hard to find in the U.S.A., try looking for a Restoration Hardware they sell it, (i belive it is used mainly for the bottoms of lambs and jewlery boxes to prevent scuffing nice tables and stuff,

for fraying troubles on materials i like using a thin layer of contact cement , dap it on the backing of furs or velvitnes , etc... and it will hold the threads in place when dry , its also still very flexible for putting on rounded surfaces,

What did Give Jim Henson the Inspiration to give Kermit those eyes? must be an example of Abstract Creativity.

In the beging he was a abstract Lizard/amphbain creature, In such I believe that he was a mixture of many different creature, My brother had some turtle that had that shape eye's and soem frogs do i guess.

That would be something cool to research!

I spoke with Terry Angus by way of email and he told me the stuff he use is Flocked paper with an self-adheasive back, I googled it and found some. From what I have been able to tell they use this stuff making home-made Telescopes. felt and velvet was great but to thick. I think this stuff is gona work!! an it's pretty resonable price

When I was a kid I had a plush Kermit. His eyes quickly faded as I took him with me EVERYWHERE! My mom used a perm. marker but it still scratched off and looked awful. I fixed kermit in a very (I think) ingenious way for a 10 year old- I got my mom to purchase black felt circles- the kind they put on the bottom of tables and chairs so as not to scratch the floor. I made a Kermit eye template from paper then traced it on the black felt. I then cut out the felt and then peeled off the paper on the back of the felt to reveal the sticky part that would have been used to stick to the bottom of a chair leg. The eye looked great and stayed on the entire time I had him. Pretty good idea for a ten year old!;)
