In the Elton John Episode, that is. Or if Guy Smiley did that Kermit Phrase, he would do it even louder and waves his arms around ever wilder.
And I hope Season 2 is complete and uncut in the DVD release.
Would the Season 2 DVD be the only TMS Season DVD complete, or would the Season 1 DVD be the only TMS Season DVD INcomplete?

This is great news. And to be honest, while it's disappointing having to wait I would rather get Season 2 as a complete season with good extras rather than a quickly cobbled together quick sale. Christmas will be a bit later I see ;)

It's great that we've got another official anouncement for this release. I can't wait untill the press release comes out (it feels similar to all of the times when Palisades announced that there'd be press releases announcing the various action figure series line-ups). My excitement about the Sesame Street: Old School Volume 1 being released is still in my system, upstaging that of The Muppet Show: Season Two, but I'm sure I'll be a lot more excited when it's closer to the release date (and let's hope that Disney doens't push the release date back AGAIN).

I would be a bit surprised if Disney admitted that they are able to release Season Two uncut. With music rights being the way they are, you never can tell.
I think the best way to look at this is to keep an open mind. Hope that makes sense.

Who knows. Maybe the season 3 DVD will be the only uncut one. Maybe the DVDs for seasosn 2, 3, and 5 will be uncut. Maybe seasons 1, 4, and 5 will be the only edited releases. We won't know for sure if there is only one uncut release or only one edited release untill after season 5 is released. Well, at least if season 2 is edited, we'll know that season 1 won't be the only edited season release, and if season 2 is unedited then we'll have to wait untill at least another season to see if it's the only uncut release.
If all of the Muppet Show Seasons are edited in their Season DVD Release, somebody would have all of the Muppet Show edited scene video clips on his or her own website.

What about features? I want to know if it has lots of features or not.
Muppet Show Season 1's features were kinda dissapointing.
Considering how rare the extras were outside of tape trade circles i thought they were rather fine.
As for the season two extras-original Prowse and Stevens pilots please.
It's been a long time since this thread was posted, this one should be HOT!!
I'd like it to be hot, you know.

Forgive me but why do you have this preconceived notion that almost *every* thread has to be a "hot" one?!?!
Nevertheless...
The two original Prowse and Stevens Pilots probably should be left for Season Five, as should the Of Muppets and Men special. The Muppets Go Hollywood should have been on the Muppet Movie DVD, while The Muppets Go to the Movies should have been on the Great Muppet Caper DVD as they were recorded to promote those respective films.
Why, why do you want to release the Season 2 DVD MONTHS later than the Season 1 DVD, Disney?

I agree that Of Muppets and Men should be included on the fifth season set. If the original pilot versions of the first two epsiodes do get released in the season sets, I think it would be best to spread them out, maybe one in season two and the other in season three, or later.

Back when the episode first aired there was a 19-month gap between the airing of the first season's finale (episode 124) the second seasons finale (episode 224).
It took 345 months from conclusion of Season 1 to the release of the complete first season appeared on DVD.
If season 2 was released today (which I know it isn't) it would only be a 342 month gap from the conclusion of season 2 and its DVD debut. So to be fair, it wouldn't be until after February 2007 that the release gap from season 1 to season 2 would be a disproportional spacing. So having it come out in spring (March/April 2007) is a reasonable release (only about a month or two longer than audiences in 1978 had to wait after watching season one to see the complete second season).

Ummm...maybe because TMS is only part of Disney's back catalogue and they don't want to saturate the DVD market with just TMS and nothing else.

I think they'd should put all of the Muppetisms on one season. I'd really like to see trailers for the Muppet movies. Also I think they should release the Muppet specials (not necessarily as extras, but just on DVD). Why was the Muppet Baby scene in "Muppet Family Christmas" cut out of the DVD release?

The two original Prowse and Stevens Pilots probably should be left for Season Five, as should the Of Muppets and Men special.
The Juliet Prowse and Connie Stevens episodes were already on the Season One set. Both were considered pilots. The First season also included The Sex and Violence pilot, and it was originally planned that the second season would contain the Valentine Special pilot. Once that's out, all of The Muppet Show pilots will have been released.

When myself and others say the "original Juliet Prowse and Connie Stevens Pilots", we are referring to the original edits of those episodes, as opposed to the broadcast versions. Check the TMS episode guide on this site if you're still confused as to what we're referring to.
And where did you get your info about the Valentines special being on the Season Two set? That's the first I've ever heard.

Do any exist? Off-hand I know of two bloopers - one from a trailer where Fozzie's mouth gets stuck and the other from the Raquel Welch episode where Fozzie calls Scooter "Kermit" - and both have already been shown as part of the It'll Be Alright on the Night series.
Why was the Muppet Baby scene in "Muppet Family Christmas" cut out of the DVD release?
It couldn't be cleared for the R1 release, but I understand that it could be cleared for the R2 release.

I didn't say it was official news. That was the plan way back when Season 1 was released.
"If you continue to look at the list of features fans will notice the item of “original pilot”. As many Muppet fans will tell you, there were two pilot episodes produced for The Muppet Show (“The Muppets Valentine Show” and “The Muppet Show: Sex and Violence”). Members of the DVD production team have said that they hope to include both pilots on the set, but depending on the disc space available they may only be able to fit one (exactly which one is unclear right now). If both pilots don’t make the cut for the season one set, the unreleased pilot may be included on the season 2 set. Fans will have to wait for Disney to release more information to know for sure if both pilots made the cut – but at least one pilot episode will be included (and maybe more)."
You can read the whole article here: http://www.muppetcentral.com/news/2005/060105.shtml
And, thank you for correcting me on the other matter. I was wrong, and I admit it. I just didn't realize it was such a big point.

Well, the unreleased pilot may be included on the season 2 set but the unreleased pilot may not be included in the season 2 set. Nothing is set in stone. Really we just have to wait for the official announcement before we assume anything because the DVD producers like to keep us on our toes (especially after 16+ months, who knows what plans have changed). So don't assume this or that will, or will not, be this way or that way.
But I hear that the official announcement of the set should be here soon, or should I say soon-ish…whoops I've said too much :o

Song: "Chattanooga Choo Choo"
Julie Andrews:

Why would you want cuts to be made to the Muppet Show DVDs?
Jerry Nelson even told me once by PM that he was upset by every cut made to Jim's series on the season one set and I told him that back when the television stations in Australia started cutting backstage scenes, some skits etc. on the re-runs I always felt even that was an inexcusable shame.:(
I certainly will be disappointed if cuts are made on Season 2 but I'll still gladly take the set. Better than nothing.

I'll think you'll find that the majority of all "studios" (for want of a better word) have a tendency to hold off announcing future DVD releases until they have something to say. For Disney to post a statement along the lines of "The Muppet Show Season 2 may or may not be coming out this year" would be totally pointless and simply annoy consumers. Have patience people; I'm sure Disney will make an announcement when they are ready to make one and not before.

Boooo to having to wait for a summer release, but I guess we just need to be happy that it'll get here eventually. Think back 5 years when TimeLife sold sets of 3 eps for $20. I was in high school then and my mom didn't "believe" in buying stuff off the TV. Sigh. So I'll content myself with my S1, Fraggle and Dinosaur DVDs (and the couple of TimeLife videos that I own too... hehe. Haaayyyy ebay) til S2 is released.

It always amuses me whenever I read posts like this, as it confirms my suspicions that people just don't have a clue about what they are typing about.
Disney have never lied to anybody about anything - why would they? What would be the point?
Ladies and gents, I am going to tell you something that some of you may not like to hear but unfortunately the Muppets are just not as popular in 2007 as they were twenty to thirty years ago. Many members of the general public have fond memories of watching the Muppet Show either as kids or as adults. Unfortunately, many of those same people now tend to think of the show as a kids' programme. Of course, it doesn't help that networks tend to schedule the show in timeslots suitable for kids' programmes. For example, the last time the Muppet Show aired on free-to-air television in New Zealand was in the late 1990's. The timeslot - 7.30am weekday mornings.
It also doesn't help that the DVD of Season One was put in the Children's section of retail stores in New Zealand because it was a Disney release and Disney means 'children'.
Disney are doing their best to try and get the Muppets back in to primetime but they are facing an uphill battle. I suspect the reason why a lot of their proposed projects have flopped is because they overestimated how popular their projects would be with the general public.
As I have said before, Disney will release Season Two of the Muppet Show but we have to be patient and wait. The Muppet Show isn't the only DVD project that they will be concentrating on at the moment, as they do have a plethora of other material to release as well.
Super Scooter

Well, actually, the first three Muppet projects that Jonathan listed were stopped because of a change of hands at the Muppets Holding Company. Quite frankly, I was never really looking forward to "America's Next Muppet" anyway. That or Kermit's Christmas Capers (another Muppet Christmas movie... is that all they are?), though that one did sound interesting.

http://muppetnewsflash.blogspot.com/2007/01/muppet-show-season-two-dvds-are-on.html
I'll start by getting the big news out of the way: "The Muppet Show: Season Two" has officially been put onto Buena Vista Home Entertainment's schedule for "Summer 2007" (you can find moure information about the 24-episode, 4-disc "special edition" release right here (http://muppetnewsflash.blogspot.com/2007/01/muppet-show-season-two-dvds-are-on.html)). Whoopie! I talked with people at Disney, it is true. It is coming!
Now you may wonder what took so long here. We all know there are a lot of legal clearances needed for this show. No one back in 1977 thought about home video releases of television episodes – and especially not a simultaneous home video release of 22 complete episodes. All the music has to be cleared (and some licensed). The season one set suffered from some edits because they were just not able to get some of the rights; and as the show progressed from season to season the problem of music rights only gets stickier as the show used more and more songs (and more well-known and expensive songs). Let's hope the extra time allowed them to get everything in line for these episodes. But aside from the legal stuff, they have to digital-transfer all the episodes and clean 'em up (unlike modern shows, putting these episodes on disc and having them look good isn't a simple drag-and-drop process). They also have to create bonus features, menus packaging and such. For example, with season one they had to write all the Muppet Morsels for each episode (which written by Jerry Juhl, Craig Shemin, Dave Goelz and Michael Dixon). Plus there is the whole marketing aspect of such a product. Disney knows what they are doing when it comes to making money with their creations. They know when is the right time to release a product so it can do the best. They study consumer buying trends, market competition, and their entire slate of releases to find the best time of year to release a title on DVD. Their may have been some hold ups and delays, but they know what they are doing. They know waiting 20+ months is better than pumping out shoddy release quickly and they know that waiting 5-years and spending millions of dollars to make a DVD so cool your head explodes isn't the way to go either. It's been a frustrating, and long, wait, but in the long run it will be worth it.
Also the wait we've had to "suffer" from season 1 until season 2 isn't that outrageous to begin with. Many TV shows on DVD have just as long (if not longer) waits between seasons. "Mad About You" has had a 4-year wait between the release of season 2 and the upcoming season 3 release (set for next month). "Malcolm in the Middle" is going on 5+ years since its season 1 set was release and there no future releases in sight. "The Simpsons" had a little over a year between seasons sets early in its DVD run. Things take time. And remember when the episode first aired back in the 1970s there was a 19-month gap between conclusion of season one (episode 24) the conclusion of season two (episode 48). So a 18-22 month gap for the DVD releases is not far off. It took 345 months from conclusion of Season 1 until the release of the complete first season appeared on DVD. And it looks like it will be about 345 months from the end of season 2 until it comes to DVD too.
And for the record, Disney didn't lie when things in development didn’t come to be. It is very common for projects in development to not come to fruition. There are tons and tons of projects, even from the days of Jim Henson, which never came to be. It's just in today's day and age we know about these "in the works" things long before we probably should. Many of Disney's unfulfilled projects weren't ever officially announced to begin with. There have been tons of Muppet pilots that never saw the light of day, and tons of movies have been written that never came to be. It's part of the business.

Well how old are you now? 29 1/2?;)
Ha ha! I'm 19. I just would prefer not to wait 10 years before I get to see The Muppet Show in it's entirety. I will if I must, but that's one of my goals. To see every episode of The Muppet Show. :)
Thanks for the more "official" update, Greg. Anxiously looking forward to it!

It's just in today's day and age we know about these "in the works" things long before we probably should. Many of Disney's unfulfilled projects weren't ever officially announced to begin with. There have been tons of Muppet pilots that never saw the light of day, and tons of movies have been written that never came to be. It's part of the business.
I agree, in the past we just weren't in the know about these things. Now we're given at least a partial look into the process of producing movies and DVDs, and we're a little spoiled. :halo:
I'm really looking forward to this, too! Thanks for the update, Greg. Can't wait to see what the extras are as well!!

True. Though I'd be happy just to get some unreleased footage, or specials. It would be great to get Muppets at WDW one day as a special feature.
But, frankly, I'd be happy just to get the Muppets Show Episodes with no special features at all if necessary!

Then again, they haven't released Rocky and Bullwinkle season 4 yet, either...
It would be stupid NOT to release this, since they already suink the money into it, and quite frankly, this was the ONLY success that Disney had with the Muppets as of late.

Disney has had other successes. The Muppets Wizard of Oz was number two in the ratings when it premiered, and I think Kermit's autobiography and the christmas album were both successful (well, those two were at least successful to us... does anybody know if they were a success to the general public?),

this was posted on dvdfile.com's forums.
And now for a Muppet news flash: We've done some digging and have been told by sources in all the right places that The Muppet Show: Season Two is currently being planned for DVD release by Buena Vista and The Henson Company this summer. It's listed as a "special edition" so look for more cool extras that will presumably make the set worth the wait.

Sigh. I am watching Season 1 right now and oh-so impatient for Season 2. And for the completion of Dinosaurs, but mostly for Season 2. Really that's all I wanted to say. I'm impatient, and also not doing my homework, haha. I have major senioritis -- *coughcough* -- see? I'm watching S1 looking for all of the goofs on the wiki. I can't wait to do it for season 2, but I have to wait, which I can't because, like I said, I'm impatient.
I hope there are chapters within the episodes in Season 2.
Moral of the story: procrastination is bad. It succeeds in completing nothing but rambling posts about nothing.
I think I need help. Or Season 2.

YAAAAAAHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Okay, so, unbeknownst to me, my mom went out and bought me and early birthday present... the 3/4 season Dinosaurs DVD! And I SAW THE PREVIEW!!! <bouncy!>
So, as for a description:
It starts with a screen that says "breaking news" and the announcer says they now interrupt the regularly scheduled previews for a breaking news story.
Naturally this is followed by a clip from the newman sketch.
There ARE short clips of the more prominent guest stars, as well as a whole lot of funny moments from the season, Kermit talking to Mickey Moose, Piggy getting the "good" news from a scale... singing vegetables, a vet sketch, several mayhem sketches, Statler and Waldorf, an old lady almost hitting Kermit... the lobster banditos sketch, Muppet labs with Beaker... Piggy walloping Gonzo...
I gotta tell you the colours on the clips look really good!
AND! It shows a picture of the set... they went with the picture of Miss Piggy holding a necklace and dressed in black where you can't quite see all of her face. It's got a nice blue background.
The first DVD has an ushy gushy picture of Kermit and Piggy, the second has Statler and Waldorf, and the third is, I think, Bunsen and Beaker, and the last is Fozzie and Gonzo, so they've got a pairs theme... I wonder if they'll have groups of three on the third season disks. <shrug>
Then they finish it off with "we now return you to your regularly scheduled previews."
EEEEEEEEEEEEE!! I'm so excited!

You're welcome! I forgot to mention a couple things... it said the set is "coming soon" but didn't get anymore specific then that. Beauregard
05-01-2007, 04:04 PM
Yeah, I seem to remember that it did. But! Either way, cut or un cut, it's more Muppets than I've ever owned in this life time! And some classic episodes that I have wanted to see since before I was born (is this possible???) like the Pig episode! Can't wait!
And I hope the wait between Region 1 and Region 2 is not too long...because last year I caved and bought Region 1 DVD which I can only watch on an old rusty computer inside a cupboard somwhere...

All of us, and I mean all of us and anyone we can influence in even the SLIGHTEST (that neighbor you haven't spoken to for three years since his Christmas lights blew out all the power in the neighborhood? He's included in this) have GOT to buy TMS S2 on the first day it's available!!! We need those peeps at Disney to go "...wow... Let's give 'em s'more" (because Disney folk apparently talk in contractions)
I ain't waiting another--what was it 2? 3? it felt like 15--years between seasons. I'm just going to have to become rich and famous and DEMAND it. Then they'll listen, they'll all listen...
Okay, back to Dinosaurs!

I recently saw a documentary on Star Wars where George Lucas said that he wanted the three-year wait between Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back to be worth it. I hope that this two-year wait is worth it.
I hope that the main menu features somebody other than Statler and Waldorf. Maybe Scooter (Ricky Boyd did sucha great job as him in The Muppets Wizard of Oz, and hasn't performed him since). It would be great if this set had menu pages for each episode. The menu choices would include "play", "scene selections", "muppet morsels", and "subtitles". (the last two choices would probably be included anyway, even without menus)

OMG yes, please let there be scene selections. One thing I absolutely despise about my Season 1 is the no scene selections. They should take a note from the Time Life DVDs--the scene selections are on the act breaks but you can chapter forward pretty much (if I remember correctly) through every scetch/song. It was really annoying to have the chapter forward button go straight to the next episode.
But this is just nit-picky. Hehe.

I hope Disney makes the menus look like the Muppet Theater and when you first get to the menu it takes you through the backstage door past pops, up the stairs, to the left onto the stage with The Muppet Show logo and the muppets under the arches For the menu choices its the second leval and for the selection you choose a dressing room door opens taking you inside the dressing room. Along the way muppets would be talking and messing around just like on the show. that would be cool.

my Wal-Mart is selling it for $32.88 before TAX, so sounds like you got a good deal.. but it's only $27.99 on Amazon.com and ships for free (and if you use the link on MuppetCentral's homepage, it helps support the website here)

Back when news of the first set was first announced, I had read that Disney wanted the sets to be aimed at collectors more than kids, and I was hopeing for packaging artwork to represent the seasons that each set is for. I was hoping that the cover would be a season one group photo, or at least a collage of images from the first season. The Kermit body packaging was a bit okay, but the disc art and back cover photos weren't really representing the first season. The Muppets never skateboarded on the show (excluding Scoote rin the Ann Murray episode from the fourth season). If I was in charge I would have put some stills from the actual epsidoes on the back, or at the very least pictures from sceens. I know that a lot of sketches had pictures taken from teh sketches, even if they aren't stills.
For example, there are at least two non-still photos from the Mahan Mahna number. One, as seen in the booklet that came with Muppet Hits, has Mahna Mahna with the Snowths. The other one, as seen in Jim Henson: The Works, has Kermit bringing the phone to the Snowths. The back covers of most of the playhouse video compilations featured photos from sketches, and I think all of those were special photos taken during production of the scenes as opposed to stills. I've heard that Rowlf's Rhapsodies has pictures from the Mississippi Mud number nad the Sherlock Holmes sketch (even though that's not in the video). Muppet Moments has a picture of the Snerfs on the back cover. All of the pictures from the back cover of Muppet Weird Stuff are from first season sketches. Jim Henson: The Works features many photos that represent certain sketches, though I can tell that most (if not all) are stills.
If I was in charge of the back cover photos, I would have included either a photo of Kermit with the orchestra backstage from the Kaye Ballard number or Kermit and Fozzie on-stage durign the "Good grief! The comedians a bear!" act, and also a picture from Mahna Mahna, and also either a still from an At the Dance number or a Veterinarian's Hospital sketch. Maybe the pictures could have been Kermit backstage with the orchestra, Fozzie in Veterinarian's Hospital, and Mahna Mahna. That soudns good.
If I was in charge of picking the first season cover, I would have used that first season group shot that features Miss Piggy without her gloves. Or that shot of Kermit, Piggy, Fozzie, and Gonzo outside the back door (I think this image was used as the back cover of The Mupet Show album). Or maybe the cover from the Muppet Show album could have been used. If I could have chosen the second season cover, it would probably be that photo of the Muppets by the theater door, the one featuring characetrs like J.P. Grosse, Thog, the Muppaphones, and others. Or maybe that big photo of many Muppets on-stage, as seen in the booklet for Mupet Hits and the 25th anniversary album (it seems like two such pictures were taken, one with Thog, Mean Mama, and Doglion on-stage, some without them). For the third season cover, I would choose that one that was featured on the last page of Muppet Hits, this image is also in the 25th anniversary album, and The Best of the Muppet Show DVDs had this picture in the paper that showed chapter stops. For the fourth season cover I would use the picture seen in Before You Leap, which was originally a puzzle. This one takes palce outside the theater, and features Miss Piggy on a motorcycle (crushing Kermit's bike), and also has Kermit (in trenchcoat), Doglion, soem Muppaphones, Gaffer (without her eyepatch), Rizzo, Fozzie, Beauregard, Animal, Floyd, Droop, andothers. I don't know of any good existing photos that promoted the last season (at least noen that don't also feature puppeteers). Hopefully there is an existing last season cast photo, especially one with Lips (not to mention Rizzo, Gafer, and Pops... But Lips is most important to me).
I wonder if all DVDs will have the seasosn number of characters. If this keeps up, then season three's discs should have: Kermit, Fozzie, and Gonzo (on disc 1), Piggy, Link Hogthrob, and Dr. Strangepork (on disc 2), Sweetums, Thog, and Doglion (on disc 3), and Sam, Swedish Chef, and Lew Zealand (on disc 4). Season fours discs should have: Kermit, Piggy, Fozzie, and Gonzo (on disc 1), Floyd, Animal, Janice, and Dr. Teeth (on disc 2), Scooter, Rowlf, Beauregard, and Link (on disc 3), and Rizzo, Camilla, Robin, and Gaffer (on disc 4). And for season 5: Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie, Gonzo, and Scooter (disc 1), Pops, Rizzo, Beauregard, Rowlf, and The Swedish Chef (disc 2), Robin, Sam, Sweetums, Annie Sue, and The Newsman (disc 3), and Dr. Teeth, Floyd, Animal, Janice, and Zoot (disc 4).

You're not the only one. Those menus are what I love the best about my season one set.
Personally I wouldn't mind having the hecklers griping about how awful the show is on all the releases menus. Providing they come up with different jokes each time of course. By the time you had 5 identical sets of Statler and Waldorf menus even I would be starting to get rather sick of them.

yeah, they'd have to use different jokes, though I wonder if the writers are up to it these days
