Christopher Reeve was a Japanese Pole Vaulter in the Bob Hope Episode?

Did he just happen to be in London or did Jim invite him over?

The story Mr. Reeve told in the "Muppets & Men" book said (paraphraising) he was in London shooting the original "Superman" and got to be very good friends with Frank Oz (don't know how). Frank invited him to work on the show, and he did the pole-vaulter on the Bob Hope show. After the film came out and he became this big star, they then booked him on the show as a guest, which he said felt weird, since he'd been down in the trenches with the other performers and was now "onstage".
