I love the comparrison picture in the review - the 1965 Ideal Kermit is just hideous! :o

That was a nice review. It answered a lot of questions I had. I was curious...Why is the replica smaller than the real puppet? Were the real Henson "posers" smaller as well?

Great review, Phil. You made a great argument about MR creating Kermit as he looks today vs. in the 1970's, and you addressed the "fat head" vs. "hand puppet" look of :) ...
Still... especially after seeing the amazing prototype for Gonzo, this still looks like a $200 doll to me that could have been so much better. Ultimately I will order one, but I'll be doing it with a bit of a lump in my throat, knowing that down the road I'll be thrilled with it, I'm just having such an issue with it, sorry.

I'm guessing the original posers must have been smaller as these are 1:1 scale replicas and I'm sure MR wouldn't purposefully make them smaller unless they were sticking to the original?
I hope they're not too much smaller - how about more information (height, length of arms & legs, etc)?
Also sorry I can't help the website by ordering through your link because I already have one ordered in the UK :(

His arms are 13 inches each while his legs are 12 and ½ inches long. I added this to the review as well.

The original Muppet posers, as weel as this new Kermit one, couldn't be much smaller than the original puppets. Anytime a poser has been photographed with a celebrity, like John Denver, Kermit looks as though he is the same size as he is when he on television with that same celebrity. The puppet version would rarely have legs and each one was made individually without much attention to whether sizes were exact with each new puppet created. This new Kermit replica will be as near as can be to the size of every original Kermit you have seen on TV or photographs. I think it's nice that this new replica has been created in such a way that it isn't exact and still dosn't spoil the magic of seeing Kermit as he was performed by Jim. :)

Another thought. If the Gonzo replica is to be clothed (hopefully in his maroon tux or something similar) would it have been a good idea to provide Kermit with his reporters mac and trilby hat? Maybe they could make one to sell separately for those of us that are nostalgic about Kermit on SS. :)

If you look at that pic in Phil's article halfway down in comparison with all the other Kermit's through the years, I've always believed that (body not withstanding) the Fisher Price plush from '81 (the one in the trench coat and hat) is the best likeness ever. Not even Palisades were able to match that well. Why is that? How did FP make such a spectacular likeness?

Vic buddy, you and I are (well where) in the same boat.... I MUST say its is a HIGH price tag on ol Kermit, but like ya sayed "knowing that down the road I'll be thrilled with it". thats how I look at it. even tho it put a BIG hole in my check book! (i used my debit card, its a visa) :( :smirk: But I'm glad that I did it and you WILL be too! Phil GREAT review man, as always! thumps up to you, and I also cant wait for my Kermie to come in...and Gonzo! (when he vomes out..)

Apperently so. The artical says the Posers were smaller then the working puppets.

I was very curious to see so few posts on the Kermit posers. I got mine last week - am I the only other person who actually has his in his possession?
They are, for the price, quite good. The armature is excellent - better than the real Henson posers, in fact. The fleece is a very close match to the original, but it is softer and fluffier. I suspect that with use, it will pill fairly quickly. The color is perfect, though. Yes, it IS smaller than the real puppet, but not too much. The head seems a bit under-stuffed, but this may also be due to the fact that the real Kermit fleece is more robust, and probably holds its shape a bit better. The collar is odd - the points are cut a but thin, with a curve to them - the real deal has straight lines, making the points wider. The curved lines of the black flocked "pupils" seem a bit long - in fact, the pupils are a bit over-scale for the whites in general. And the eyes are a bit too close together - a common Kermit reproduction failing, even with the licensed toys. It makes him look a bit wall-eyed. Without a doubt, the most outstanding feature of this item is the stitching. The seams are nearly non-existant - I can't imagine how they did this with machine stitching! And the details of the hands, feet, and mouth edge - which appears hand glued (!) - are terrific. I defy anyone to make anything this close to the real deal for this price. A worthwhile investment for true Muppet fans.
PS - The Gonzo prototype does, indeed, look AMAZING, but I can't imagine that the exposed foam I see on it won't yellow and degrade incredibly quickly. It's one of the reasons Muppets have to be re-made so often - foam does not last long, especially when it's not covered and exposed to natural light. I see this as a major design problem.

A few on the Replica Prop Forum have him and have posted here in the Authentic Muppet thread.
Are the eyes glued solidly all around or are they just anchord in the middle with some room to move them underneith if cut loose?
If they can be moved without glue spots showing, I will.

Does any one here got pics of some real Kermit posers to compare this to???
I did a Google search, but I can't tell posers from some replicas.
I would like to know what kind of changes can be made if I wanted to.

It's nice, but the pupils really throw off the look. It seems that the poser body and head is realy nice and probably perfect to some version of Kermit, but I think people need lessons in posing him. I see squisjhed heads and necks and stuff that should be fixed.

People who understand, Lighting and Natural positioning, will get the best results.... One other thing I noticed is in some of those pic's... Kermits Eyes need to be focused forward more so it actually looks like he's looking forward and not to the sides... that will also make a huge difference... Just slight adjustments you can make when you pull him out of his box...

I hadn't heard about this puppet until I read Phillip's recent article.
I decided to purchase one since there were only going to be 2,500 produced.
Unfortunately, I didn't see the Muppet Central kick-back link until after I had already placed my order.
Sorry, Phillip.

Yeah, but thats only if they can be moved without cutting them off and actually moving them.
But, these eyes are already forward, if they go anymore the other way they will look goofy.

http://homepage.mac.com/bluesnal/.Pictures/mrk/mrk2.JPG
They can't go anymore inward, and if they go outward they start looking out to the side.
Does anyone know if Kermits eyes are glued fully on right to the edges or just in the middle of the eye so they can be cut off and repositioned with a little movment room?

This sounds like taking out all the fun in getting him. People have only had him for all of 3-4 days. What if they like the squished heads and necks? Lessons in posing Kermit? Wow.

Yes I agree...the pupils are a tiny bit too large. The round part is a bit too round. Alright...I'll stop complaining! I'm an artist and a perfectionist...I can't help it! :)

Yes, I don't think it's an evil thing to say that learning how to position Kermit will make him look better. Proper positioning will make him look like the high end replica he is.

Not every one is an artist... But, those of us that "are" will naturally have far better results with their Kermits.... It's very true indeed... Some of these kermits in photo's I've looked at here are so poorly posed I'm thinking $199.00 for that? in other photo's I'm thinking Wow that looks great!!!! Artists will shine!!!! I'm sure some will make small changes to make these look more acurate!!!

Since the other thread was closed, I'll ask again in here...
How is everyone going to be displaying theirs?
I'm not sure what to do yet, I dont have a glass case to put him in right now. Hopefully dust wont be a big problem for him, even in a glass case you'll get a little. Is the material the type that can get dirty easily from dust? I guess a damp cloth or brushing it off with a clean duster or swiffer thing would work if that ever is a problem :concern:
I do share some of the same sentiments as Vic and some others. I’m still very anxious to get him though and do feel the pose has a lot to do with making the TRUE Kermit come out. In a lot of these pics, its doesn’t look like much, but then in some others that’s got good posing, he does. Such as with the pics KermieBaby just posted, I get a whole different impression and get even more excited as I see Kermit come to life there. For me anyway.:)

I was wondering...is there any special package that this Kermit comes in? Usually when a new Muppet collectible comes out (thinkin' 'bout the good ol' Palisades and Fisher Price stuff) there's pictures of the box as well as the product online somwhere. With the great treatment other Muppet stuff has gotten (like that Jim Henson figure!), I just wondered if Kermit would come in a box decked out in the red curtains we know and love from our favorite theater?
Or...will it just be a plain ol' brown box?
I'm not complaining, just curious. I haven't gotten my Kermit yet, but I'm just wondering how to display him. If it's a plain ol' box, of course I'll just "open" it like the kid in this clip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHaAVTqQujU) did with the gift. ;)
BTW, the Kermit pics looks awesome! Can't wait for him!

I was wondering the same thing. For now, my Kermit will be sitting within inches of me, wherever I am in the house (well, with the exception of the kitchen and the bathroom! ha) so I can marvel at his, ah, whatever he has, it's marvelous.
I have a question too, this one's for Amy from MR, if she found this thread: I was going to fill in the registration form, and it asks for a serial number. Can you please tell me where the serial number is? I think it's probably the item number, but I wanna be sure.
Oh, and thank you all at Master Replicas SO MUCH for this beautiful Kermit! :)

Oh, and Convincing John, the box he comes in is almost just as beautiful!!! No red curtains like many hoped, but beautiful just the same. They did our Kermit justice that's for sure. I didn't snap any pics of his box, and it's already put away or else I'd take some pics for you, sorry!

I got my Kermit today, too. I think he is beautiful. Master Replicas did a bang-up wonderful job.
For those of you complaining, I don't want to start a flame war, but I'm really annoyed. This is a top notch product. If you think you can do better, build your own. If you hate it so much that you have to physically uproot the eyes and move them, send it back unopened and get your money back and build your own. This is definitely more than a $200 doll. It is a replica, made from the original patterns. As many have noted, Kermit himself changed a lot over the years. Some of the real posers have been good, some have been horrible. This is as good as a mass-produced (in a small quantity) product can possibly be and certainly looks light-years better than some of the real posers.
I guess it just comes down to the fact that some people can never be happy.
I for one, am very happy.

I think the collar kind of looks odd. It's just draped over his neck, whereas just about every Kermit since the late 70's has had a very defined-pointed collar. And the face is somewhat robotic-looking, like what they used for Kermit's full view in the "Couldn't We Ride?" number from TGMC. Also, his arms are a little too long. But I'm sure once you break him in he'd look absolutely great. I'm with Vic on the whole $200 doll, but I do know I couldn't build my own. But isn't that why they hired Master Replicas and not me? It's not a terrible-looking Kermit, it's probably still worth buying I'm sure.

Hi Guys,
Well this product is certainly causing some mixed thoughts.
I have held off from posting my thoughts, until now that is. Firstly I am still waiting on my Kermit to be delivered. I was thrilled to see pics posted of him on the net while I await mine. However I did feel a bit disheartened when I seen them. He just didnt look right, until now that is, the pics that Kermiebaby47 has posted are fantastic, I totally believe others that say its all about the posing. Even the two pics by Kermiebaby47 look different, the 'sparkly' flash in the top pic, its hard to look beyond that and see the Kermit.
http://forum.creatusmaximus.com/showpost.php?p=72338&postcount=18
The bottom pic, he looks great, that cute fluffy warm feeling, similar to the one you get when you see an unseen pic from the early 80's era!!
I also think that its hard to look at these products as they are a 3D object. Up until now, unless you were really lucky to meet a Real Kermit Poser, they have always been seen in a 2D format, ie on screen, paper or products, so many images released from Henson or Disney have Kermit with his mouth wide open, to see that he actually has a bottom jaw and a neck is not the norm!!
With reference to the box, it appears the design has changed?
It was originally posted that the lid would have a clear plastic window so you could actually see Kermit inside, but now the artwork Image of Kermit is on the lid??
On another note, someone comented that there Kermit was number 178 of 2500. This is strange as Amy announced on Friday, that the first shipment was of 100 Kermits, so how has Kermit 178 been released!! What other numbers do people have guys??
I have been so excited about this product since it was first announced last Oct, I cant believe it is finally here. I cant wait to get mine!!

Just to answer some questions. Yes, I believe people are getting mixed feelings over the way Kermit is being posed, photographed etc. I would suggest that people may want to wait until they have him in their own hands and manipulate him how they would like. Personally, I think mine looks good right now. A little stiff, but I think that is a good thing. It will take some time to break Kermit in. Kermit is not perfect, but darn it it's as close to the real thing as I have seen. I can't stop going into my room and looking at him. Always gives me a big smile.
About the box, I think it is wonderfully done. Nice and sturdy in case you have to move. Kermit will always be protected. It does not have a window in the front, but when you open it Kermit is shown and if you would like, could be displayed that way. Although, as others have said, it does resemble a coffin.
As far as the Kermit numbers go, I have 151.
In conclusion, all I know is that I have a great Kermit collectible. It makes me smile. I know Master Replicas and everyone else behind these have put a lot of heart and soul into these characters. It shows.

Does anyone know if the actual Kermit puppet uses felt for the collar and base of the feet?
I expected something a bit more durable and was surprised to see felt used on the poser replica. Overall, though, I'm overjoyed with the product.

Hey Chris! Yeah, the flash really makes those little fibers stand out as looking sparkly. I wanna say that he isn't sparkly when you're looking at him in person, but some of the fibers do have a slight shine to them (and the real Kermit is like that too right? You met him, you should know! :) ).
I'm glad your opinion has changed!

That is a GREAT POINT about the images we're used to Chris. I hope others will take that into consideration. And yeah, no window box, but it absolutely does NOT take away from the presentation AT ALL, everything that tomahawk said.
On another note, someone commented that there Kermit was number 178 of 2500. This is strange as Amy announced on Friday, that the first shipment was of 100 Kermits, so how has Kermit 178 been released!!
Yup, that was me. I figure that they're probably done with a lot more than 100, but that they just shipped the first 100 pre-orders. So maybe just not the first 100 Kermits that were out of production.
Does anything I said make any sense at all?
Again, fantastic job Master Replicas!!! Thanks to Kevin, Travis, and Amy for hanging with us here at MC. You guys are the best. :flirt:

I agree about the images we are used to seeing of the posers. Notice that most of them have a camera angle that looks down on him, plus his mouth wide open, ergo, no visible neck.
I've got the highest number reported so far... 251. And mine came a day later than all the others in Southern California. I don't know what that means and I don't know if there's any way for them to know which number is which without opening the box. The only place I've seen the number is on the plaque.
By the way, I thought it was funny that it actually said Item: Kermit the Frog on the outside of the cardboard shipping box, just like it might say Item: 12 Doz. Shirts. I wonder what the DHL delivery guys thought reading that.
:p
P.S. I'm displaying mine in the box for now because I'm moving soon. After that, I'll take him out and pose him.

Hey C.J., here's a pic that Nitro posted over on CMX. The sides and back of the box have more of the brown theme with technical illustrations of Kermit in different poses and stuff. Check it out! (http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f72/Johnz1492/Picture334.jpg) :)
Thank you! I was wondering what the box looked like. I heard where it's sturdy and will protect Kermit in case you need to move him someplace else. Good to hear.
I haven't received my Kermit as of yet...:smirk: but I pre-ordered mine right from MR, so he should be on his way.
I for one, am very excited about the Kermit replica. After seeing the pics, it's just amazing. They've followed the original Muppet patterns and even used the "Henson stitch"...and even the fleece they used is supposed to be the same! (or really, really close). As for issues about the eyes, I don't think that the secret method behind Don Sahlin's "Magic Triangle" would be released even for a product this good. Photos would have to be MR's main reference.
I have actually seen an original Kermit (one that Jim used) on exhibit. It was the one that was on loan from the Smithsonian (the 1970's one). Even there, it looked just a smidge "off". This was a Kermit that JIM USED. Obviously, the only way to have his head "completely perfect" is with Jim's hand inside.
We gotta remember that Kermit was (and is) a flexible puppet that has gone through many changes and makes so many facial expressions (thanks to Jim and Steve). That's why when posers of Kermit come out, there's (Kermit quote from MTM) "something missing..." When Muppet fans see photos of posers, we see "flat head Kermit" and go "Wait a minute! Kermit doesn't look right!" It made me think of this Tough Pigs article (http://www.toughpigs.com/journalposeur.htm).
Luckily, the folks at MR knew that Kermit's head had to have "squooshability" so he can be posed in those memorable facial expressions. This is why the Eden Kermit puppet from 1993 is such a good product. They had Jim in mind, too. I was happy that MR has paid attention to the flexibility of the face so that each fan can pose him how he likes.
These guys have worked and worked to get Kermit just right, and where Kermit has evolved so much over the years, it's tough to get the "Kermitness" of Kermit without Jim's hand inside. The only way to really satisfy everybody 100% is to create another Kermit replica, this time as a puppet...being held aloft by a life-size Jim Henson replica.
I'm satisfied with getting a Kermit replica of this high quality! (Although a life size Jim would be pretty cool, too...) ;)

Does anyone know if the actual Kermit puppet uses felt for the collar and base of the feet?
I expected something a bit more durable and was surprised to see felt used on the poser replica. Overall, though, I'm overjoyed with the product.
Everything is authentic. I was very pleased to see the way KermieBaby got the collar to stand out so it wasn't plastered down to his chest. It made him look even that much better.

LOL!! That's exactly what my wife and I were talking about yesterday!
And yeah, good "point" about his collar. It is just felt, but it's durable enough to hold whatever position you put it in. Well, until somebody decides they wanna feel him or pick him up, :smirk: .

Here are a few pics I took after playing with my MR Kermit.
He looks pretty good with a little TLC.
I played around with the face by scrunching the foam up and making the mouth more curved in the back to get him to smile a bit more until I got a more Kermit like face that I liked.

I bought mine as a Master Replicas Society Member before they went on sale to the general puplic. I thought mine was going to be in one of the first shipments since I bought him the morning they did the Member presale. But, I guess the advanced sale went very well because I talked to them today and they said that the first 300 went out (mine was not on that boat) and it would be at least another month before the next batch. They are going to be shipping to the Society Members who bought theirs early before the general public or vendors. She said the next batch would be bigger than the first. So thats good... But...I think it's gonna be a while.

Hello, everybody.
I'm BRAND new to this board, so, pardon me if I make any fau-pas (such as mispelling anything).
I'll be honest, the main reason I stumbled upon this site was in searching for reviews on the MR Kermit. I'm glad to see everyone seems so happy with them. I had a bit of a concern, though.
Bare in mind, I have zero experience with any sort of Muppet replicas. I've just always enjoyed the movies and tv shows, and am a huge fan in that respect. I'm a bit wary of the size difference (ie from the poser to the actual puppet). I know that it's only a slight difference, but, what would your suggestion/warning/comment be to someone who was expecting the movie-star Kermit?
As I've been contemplating buying him, I got hung up on the 24.5" height. It just didn't seem right to me. I would even ask random people "How tall do you think Kermit the Frog is?"....after getting a really weird look (since they aren't aware of why I was asking), they all said somewhere in the 30" range.
Well, I'd appreciate any feed back. For now, enjoy your Kermits!

Just thought I'd ask.

ok.. i don't have mine yet, but i don't think it would actually be possible to really convert the replica into an actaul puppet.. there's no sleeve inside for a hand, and the joints and such in the body and the head would probablly get in the way, the internal structure of a puppet and a stuffed anything aren't all that compatable, you'd have to completely disassemble him from the inside out, and if you didn't know what you were doing... would be a rather expensive experiment...

oh my! i wouldnt put a hole in a $200 kermit rep. but I guess if thats why someone is buying it for then, good luck. it just may turn out cool! :) but i STILL wouldnt do it...unless i had an extra $200 to spend then maybe i would buy another one and TRY to make it into a puppet.

Lynn Pretty much full scale replicas and props from movies. I'm not too into toys, unless something really cool comes out. I do have a cave as well as displays in other rooms. Only in cases and mounted. Very neat and clean. A lot of Disneyland attraction artwork, Star Wars (original stuff...it helps to know people..wink wink), Horror films, and now I can start my Muppet collection. I am going to be moving into a new place soon so I think I am going to hold off on doing any crazy Kermit display. I plan on building a scaled banjo for him. I wish MR would do one. Hmm...
I'm really not feeling happy about the way that he looks in flash-photographs. If the point of Kermit is to be a poser for fans, why is it that he simply cannot be photographed to look nice? I'm rather teed by it, since that was my primary objective in buying him. I've been trying to tweek some of the other poster's photos with a photo-editing softwear, but I can't get him to look anything like right.
Is it possible that this was done purposefully? So that folks could tell the difference btween official and unofficial Kermit pics?
Other than the weird flash-fuzz, he looks grand.

Other than the weird flash-fuzz, he looks grand. Just a few thoughts...Aren't they only making synthetic fleece now? Different than what was used back in the 70's or 80's? Anything synthetic is going to have a plastic quality about it. That would show up with a flash. I mean, who knows how they actually lit those photo shoots for the calendars and such. Also...is it possible that a matte spray was used at times to hide the sheen of the fleece? Such as a make-up artist uses powder on a face? I have seen Kermit give off slightly different sheens over the years in photos and on TV. Just some thoughts on the subject...

This reminds me of a picture in the Muppet Show First Annual, There is a picture of Scooter and his face is very sparkly from light glare, so its been happeing a long time!! I think in a profesional set-up, with Flash screens and an antiglare lens he would photograph OK, I will be sure to experiment when mine arrives.

No, it was not done to spoil people's pictures. It's the material. I have a friend who made his own Kermit puppet out of Antron Fleece and when you photograph him with a flash the exact same thing happens. You have to use lighting instead of a flash.
And KermieBaby has posted a non-flash picture that looks wonderful.

Agreed. The material is spot on.

Alright, my screaming-fit is now over. :D
Had some spare time today (after doing laundry, washing dishes, and taking out the trash, phew!), and decided to spend it reposing my MR Kermit. After I *very carefully* moved him around a bit, I came up with a satisfying pose, and it's not as static looking as before.
Lots of talk about lighting in this thread, so I opened up the curtain, pulled the blinds, got together a t-shirt, some boxes, a big canvas & a blanket, and took some new pics! I'm an amature, I know. :p

Those are beautiful pictures! And they also prove how good these replicas are. It all comes down to learning how to pose him. If you can't come up with your own pose, copy one from a picture.
And I agree, I want to get a case for him to keep him from getting dusty. I still haven't taken mine out of the box and I'm really getting itchy to pose him! At least he's standing where I can see him, but he looks so serious with his mouth closed.

I'm sorry, but when I clicked on this link, the first impression I got was that it looked exactly like that friend of Larry's on the show War at Home on Fox. I am really disappointed at how this Kermit has changed from the original concept. I would have been completely happy if it had turned out like the Kermit I've seen pictures of from comicon. The collar should be right under the head at the top of the neck, but it looks like they put it right above the shoulders. It just doesn't look right. Sorry to be a downer, but I was expecting what they were showing us in pictures. I don't know if I can buy this whole 'exact patterns' claim after seeing the latest pictures of this poser. Sorry to be a downer, but I just gotta be honest. I hope I can make mine look somewhat like the real thing when it finally arrives.
edit:
Okay, Kermiebaby's pics look awesome. The only thing that looks a little off when you first see the top pic is the pupils seem a tad too close together. It immediately reminded me of some actor or actress, but I can't come up with a name. The best pic I think is Kermiebaby's second pic. I feel a lot better about my pending kermie shipment after seeing this. I was horrified when I saw the pic at the top of this post, but feel much better now. And you guys have some really cool display rooms. Awesome! I hope my movie room turns out somewhat similar. I was shelves on the walls for displaying the cool stuff.

Hey - I ordered from those guys too, as I'm in London in the UK, and they had the lowest international shipping rate I could find...
But... like you, I've emailed them after placing my order, and not heard a thing from them... :boo:
Not sure I'm 100% confident in their service... perhaps they don't know when their shipment is arriving themselves?
Anyway, be sure to let me know if you hear from them, or better yet, receive your Kermit, and I'll do the same!

But I'm hoping the fact they've charged me is a good sign he'll be on his way across the Atlantic soon...?
BTW for anyone in the UK, the total charge including shipping from this company totalled £108, which is much cheaper than other places... Can you belive that some the authorised re-sellers are charging up to £190 over here!!
Of course, however, it remains to be seen as to whether he'll ever arrive!! :smirk: I certainly hope so. MickeyMuppet, I'll keep you updated!

You are correct Mickey_Muppet. That is a great pose of Kermit. But it isn't my picture or pose. Sorry if I misled anyone. Credit goes to KermieBaby. I was merely reposting his link from Post #85 in case anybody missed it. That should be the standard for anybody wanting to pose Kermit. I kow I saved that photo and hope to achieve the same.

Assuming you don't get a customs charge on it then that is a great price! The downside of the customs charges is it's like a lottery sometimes you get charged sometimes you don't but when you do you also get the disadvantage of having your package dissappearing for a few weeks!

You're right... although I think the max they can charge is 20% on the original price, so that would only be about £20 max extra... still cheaper than the FP price and much cheapre than the £190 price I saw...
All good of course, so long as he actually arrives... fingers crossed!

Hi Guys,
Finally he is here.
HE IS FANTASTIC. I am so happy with him, all my fears and worrys are none.
BAD NEWS, UK buyers beware. A friend of mine shipped Kermit to me from Florida, I asked her to insure the parcel for $300, £200 for Kermit and $87 postage, there were a few other bits in the box too.
Customs billed me for the value of the contents as $300, before I could collect my parcel today, I had to pay the Customs charge of £60.53!! Thats right, £60 quid!!
Its done now, and there is nothing I can do about it, but hey, It is totally well worth it.
I have got Kermit number 163 of 2500.
Here is the first pic of Kermit that I have just taken, I will do more when I have more time, its not so late and Im not so tired, lol.
Enjoy and let me know what you think!!

I too believe that shot was REALLY good. I've seen some that kinda turn me away. I didn't notice the difference about the frill (since i was more focused on his face and body size) and it kinda turns me away. I do however believe i shall be buying one at some point... ahem, anyone have one they're selling for $2?
It would kinda be nice if everyone who gets theres, place the number their Kermit was made. It would kinda push me a bit more to see more and more being sold.

Man am I ****** off. I've been in contact with a place here for months over Kermit and waiting and now they finally tell me he's come in……..but he's SOLD OUT and they WON'T be getting anymore. They had a bunch of orders and full orders already paid for, yet only received 2. so they can't even fill all their orders. I'm so upset. I have no idea how to get myself a Kermit now. This is not something I'd like to get online either, but now I may have no choice. Maybe I can find another place here that might carry it, but I doubt it

But, Master Replicas have great quality control. I'm trusting that every Kermit in the edition are identical. Same eye positioning, collar, etc..So far in everyone's photos, all the Kermits have looked pretty close. Your best bet is to order one directly through Master Replicas. They are selling out fast. I wouldn't wait because then your only option is going to be Ebay and the resale on that is going to be rediculous.

09-29-2006, 06:42 PM
Oh yea, I wasn't really worried about that. I was worried more so on damage during shipping or it being opened at the border or something like that…plus extra costs in shipping and possible duty. If it wasn't a higher priced ranged item like this, I wouldn’t mind a little extra with shipping and duty, but here it all adds up. But mostly I'm upset because I originally was going to pre-order online but I didn’t because a place here already had me down for a Kermit for months and said they'd let me know when it came in, and now most of their orders couldn't even be filled because they didn't get enough. Hardly any. On a positive note, at least he‘s selling good!

I almost didn't bother opening it cuz that's what i thought it'd be.. but no... it was a real, actual response.. late on a Saturday even! I got told that they expect their frogs on by Friday.. and they'll start shipping him out quick as they can... so we should probablly have him maybe a week after that (as previously stated.. i live in Alaska, so normal shipping rules don't always apply.....) woohoo!!! means we'll have him just in time for hubby to get back from this round on the Slope!!

Well, I ended up ordering him online!
Went with Corner Store Comics, they had the best price I came across and shipping rate. I've also heard nothing but good things about them and check their site out a lot. If only I would have known about the store here not having enough Kermits sooner, I could have gotten free shipping. Ah well, still actually works out cheaper I think. So its all good. Hopefully all goes well in shipment, I think they're shipping by Wednesday. Already have a spot for him. I plan on keeping him out, as in not behind glass. Hopefully he wont attract to much dirt and dust. Will probably get something to put him in eventually.

does anyone have a count on who/how many there are? - I ordered 2 directly from MR and they should be here shortly.
Over on the old Plaisades board we used to keep track of the rare Lunchbox Figures. Might be nice to do that with Kermit and the others so that we can authenticate for trades.

I am very happy...I received my Kermit today! Number 137. He sure looks great in person. But, being the perfectionist I am and having a very sharp eye...I do have a few comments. The over all presentation is very nice. The box looks great with all the artwork and the satin lining. Top notch. Kermit is very well put together. At first, I was like...he looks a bit small. But I know the photo puppets are a bit smaller than the working puppets. It has been 28 years since I last saw the real Kermit in person at the Art Of The Muppets exhibit in L.A., so I don't recall the size. Things do look bigger on camera as well. As far as a perfect likeness...a few things...the eye balls are placed a bit too close together. It's plain to see when compared to any photo or movie clip. If they were spread out even an 8th of an inch, they would be perfect. The pupils don't look as bad in person, but they are cut a tiny bit big. I almost want to say that maybe the actual eye balls themselves are a tad small. I don't know what the collar on the real Kermit is made of, but to me it looks a little bit cheap. There is no weight to it like you see in the films. It is just regular craft store felt. I could be wrong about that but I am trusting my eye. The last thing is, I wish they had not stuffed the head so much. I think there would be more room for expression and "Kermit wrinkles" in the face and head, if they had held back on the foam a little. They could of injected foam into the rest of the body but then placed broken pieces of foam in the face. That would of given you more to push around in the head. Kermit has a ^ shape to the top of his head and upper lip and it is hard to achieve that with the injected poly foam. With those problems fixed...Kermit would have looked like he walked right off the set of one of his movies. But, all and all, It is a very nice collectable. These are just my opinions. I don't expect everyone to agree with me. Either way the Kermit Replica Photo Puppet is a must have for any Muppet fan. Master Replicas did a great job. I am looking forward to purchasing Gonzo. :)

Well I ordered myself one from Master Replicas' website. I don't know when it will get here though since it was on backorder but I can't wait! :)
The main facotr in the decision to get it was that the next one they're doing is Gonzo. I knew I was going to HAVE to get Gonzo and then I thought that if I'll be having Gonzo down the line I'd really regret not getting Kermit.

I am very happy...I received my Kermit today! Number 137. He sure looks great in person... Master Replicas did a great job. I am looking forward to purchasing Gonzo. :)
I just watched the Muppet Movie and that version of Kermit looks SO much better than the version MR based its design on. There must be a reason why MR did a 90's version of Kermit rather than the older version (Maybe Disney wanted "their" version of Kermit made?.)
The older Kermit has a much larger head, a longer, more skinny neck, a more elongated body and and wide-set eyes. A possible irony is that a 1979 kermit looks so much different than the current version that if MR did make an earlier version of the character many casual fans might think it doesn't look like Kermit since many are so used to the Kermit they see now. Of course, since this item was made for collectors and Muppet fans (what with the $200 price tag and limited number made) it woudl make more sense to do an erlier "golden age" Kermit than a current one.
The MR Kermit looks very much like the current photo Kermit, so they succseeded (with the exception of the horrable collar. The material is WAY too flimsy. I might get some of that stiff craft felt and make a callar and set it on my Kermit just to see what it looks like). It's just that the photo Kermit does not look like the Kermit many of us love.:)

Alien Gonzo,
I'm also from the Toronto area. You will have to pay duty on Kermit :), based on how much hes worth. I think it came to around $36.00 and change.

KermieUK.. question for you.. what are the dimensions on the display case area you've got him in? I've got probablly another week before mine shows up *crosses fingers* and we had been debating how to display him (at least temporarily).. had seen your display.. then a friend in a pet rodent forum had mentioned using old fishtanks to build display/book cases.. had thought of doing that in another year or so after all the critters die of old age, would be perfect for action figure montages... but, oddly enough, we had a gerbil die this morning and we suddenly have a spare 20 gallon tank and we were wondering if that would be large enough for him... (after it's properly cleaned, of course we could just build a little base then invert and slide the tank right over him... )
we also have a temporarily free 10 gallon, so if nothing else, i'll try both for size and let everyone know.. if the 10 gallon works.. hey, cheap cases for all.. (you can get one for abotu $10 at Walmart..) if the 20 gallon works.. well, they're a bit pricier.. but.. hey, that's what thrift stores and freecycle are for! :)

Kermit number 175 has arrived in London and is happily sitting on my desk (since I had him delivered to work) and earning me some very odd looks from co-workers
He's smaller than jad expected, and will definitely need quite a bit of posing to get him "right" but I'm glad he's here! (even if he is leaving little bits of antron fluf everywhere!)

Just got my email from Alter Ego Comics that my Kermit has shipped. Should be arriving via UPS within the next couple days.
After reading some of the critiques, I hope Master Replicas takes some of our constructive criticism of their photo Kermit prop and make improvements when it comes time to make Gonzo and hopefully Animal. Gotta listen to the fans. :)
I don't think you can take comments about Kermit and apply them to Gonzo. Gonzo is built differently. He wears a full suit and his head is sculpted which should increase the cahnce of a perfect put pf the box likeness. Most of the issues with KErmit have to do with people not posing the head properly. I mean, look at one pic and he's a perfect 70's kermit. In another pic he's a great 1980's kermit. Then you have pics where he looks like he was hit in the face with a lead pipe. All of them are made the exact same way. It's all about how people pose him. I doubt Gonzo will have siminlar likeness issues.

I doubt Gonzo will have siminlar likeness issues. Although the MR Kermit is a fantastic collectable, they are not all made exact. The eye balls on mine were put too close together. I thought it was in the design, but after seeing more and more fan photos, I realized that I was sent an imperfect Kermit. My collar was also cut with rather thin points. The last photo posted by Kermieuk looks fantastic. Mine does not look like that and it has nothing to do with posing him. It is those very fine details that make up the look of the character. A little bit off and you lose the likeness. I have also seen fan photos of Kermit where the pupils were placed too low and made him look funny. The very kind people at MR are going to exchange it for me. They have awesome customer service. Gonzo will be hand made just like the Kermit. As a way more complex puppet, more things could become a problem. I hope the finished Gonzo looks identical to the prototype we have seen. That thing looks amazing. In my opinion, I think the Photos of the prototype Kermit on the MR website has a stronger likeness to Kermit than the final product. The eyes are placed better, the mouth comes to more of a point (like the real Kermit), and the collar is way longer and cut with bigger points. When you have a big run of a product made overseas, it is difficult to make every single one exactly the same. Unless 1 or 2 people were doing it, it is near impossible. I doubt that the MR reps are going to China to inspect every single Kermit that was made and only shipping off the perfect ones. :) Whoever is putting the Kermits together needs to study the artist proof and the photos so they can get it right every time.;) The fans know...suits at Disney don't always know.

Is it just me or does anyone else find it a bit strange to compare the Master Replica Kermit to photos of the poser Kermits that, in my opinion, if they are on any sort of commercial release, say a book, c.d., d.v.d., have been digitally corrected? Kermit is not going to be perfect. But if I compare him to any others that I have in my room, he looks just like the real thing. Master Replicas did a wonderful job.

I think you bring up a very good point. Many of these photos have the benifit of Photoshop and other tools to make them look sleek and life-like. If you have any of the old Hallmark products from the early 80s, they used with some polished and not-so-polished results. I like that period too just like I like the period when Mickey Mouse was not as polished as he is today. I stood my Kermit next to an old Muppet Video cardboard Kermit from the 80s and much of the details are the exact same except the color. The Kermit poser in those ads did not featured the set-in eyes. They look like they were just stuck on like those of an Anything Muppet.
The hardest part for me to get just right is the neck area. I don't want to break anything or pull the fleece out of shape.

Hey Punch and Judy.
How you doing!!
With regards to DHL, in my experience they charge 'EVERY' shipment customs.
Only last week, I recieved a customs and excise charge for my Muppets Harmony Kingdom box from Disney in USA. Luckily it was only £11.00, however I actually recieved that shipment back in January, so you never know when one of these charges is gonna show up, best bet is to call DHL and ask them if there are any outstanding charges for your name and address!!
I recieved yesterday my Prize Kermit from Master Replicas, #90. He's great, The customs value on the package, as it was a prize was $1.00, I wonder if DHL will charge me lots for this one!!?
Chris!

Hi All,
With regards to my above post, I do not now have #90, well, at least I dont think I do? The outer Brown Box that Kermit is shipped in has on the side ''Carton Number'', on my first delivery, this read #163, and when I opened Kermit and the plaque it sure enough read 163/2500. However, my prize Kermit read on the outer box, Carton Number 90, however when I opened the package and took out the plaque it reads 590/2500!! Anyway, Im not sure which is the acurate number, the plaque I guess!!
I am not sure what to do with two Kermits, I keep telling myself I really dont need two of these!! I also have a few big things coming up soon, like Paris for my 30th Birthday and New York at the end of November, so I may sell one on ebay to help fund those holidays!!

So I had to call and order more keys. Gotta keep him behind the safety of glass so the kids don't ruin him. So as of now, we had to put him back in his 'coffin'. lol

I've been lurking around, following the progress of this thread as I awaited my Kermit, but I've never posted before...so a hello--or perhaps "hi-ho"--is in order, I guess.
I finally got my Kermit from Alter Ego comics today! (#567) I must say I am not remotely disappointed! I've dreamed of owning a life-size, realistic Kermit since I was a kid, so my inner child has pretty much felt like today was Christmas.
I've already been playing around and taking a few pictures. As some people have already suggested, it really does take a bit of time and practice to get the hang out getting some really quality poses out of him, but hopefully I'm getting there. I wanted to post and share my pictures, but I was just told that you have to have at least ten posts before you can post a link to something. But if anyone cares to see them, you can visit the link to my blog that is in my signature ("The Studio Bueno Studio Blog-O!"), as a few have been posted there.

Hey all,
I'm about to purchase my Kermit, and it seems as though it's backordered from the manufacturer. I've seen a few other outlets mentioned, including Time and Space Toys, and I was wondering which one you guys think I should go with.
Thanks!

I think Time and Space is good, never used them before though.
I have used Corner Store Comics before though and did use them for my Kermit, which should arrive this week and so far they've been great and I’ve heard nothing but the best about them. They’ve even posted on here a few times. They have great customer service.

Those are some of the funniest poses I have seen on here. You have a major talent! Too bad there's not a big calling for "professional posers" . . . thanks for sharing!

Fantastic pics, gee I can't wait for my Kermit. I hope he comes this week.
I gotta say, of all the pics posted, this one right here looks like its a direct screen cap from one of the Muppet movies, that IS Kermit brought to life:

I agree that this (https://s.p5.hostingprod.com/@darthvaderhelmets.com/ssl/Img4015.jpg) is one of the best pics ever! Better than some of the professionals.
