wamu.org/programs/kn/06/08/31.php#11695 (Sorry, the board won't let me post a link since I'm a n00b so you have to cut & paste)

Stream to listen using the links on the right side.

If you listen to the question & answer at the 20:00 mark, they mention the "Jim Henson Works" which will be a website coming out in a couple of weeks giving you access to some old stuff like Sam & Friends and early Sesame Street and Fraggle Rock. Also they mention that the U of MD library has some of that stuff if you want to stop by there. I am new to the area and just made the trip to the Smithsonian today so I'll be making a trip to U of MD soon for that stuff.

Listen to the whole interview, it's fun.

Just listening to this; and wow, what a great interview!

Can't help but wonder if any of the callers were members from here?

After listening to the program, I wanted to clarify that this new "Jim Henson Works" website to view Henson programs will not be available to everyone anywhere through the web. It sounds like it will be through the Univerisity Library's intranet, and you would need to be on their campus to access it.

Thats a bummer. Thanks for clarifying.

Maybe other colleges will be able to access the database through some sort of intra-university server or file exchange program.

Why would they make such a rule?

From the University of maryland website:

"On the 22nd, the MSPAL will launch the newly acquired and digitized collection of 71 Henson films and television programs, filmed workshops and commercial compilations — made possible by Jane Henson and with permission from The Jim Henson Company, Sesame Workshop and Muppets Holding Company, LLC. Included are rarely seen examples of Henson’s early work such as “Sam and Friends,” a five-minute show on Washington D.C.’s WRC-TV; Wilkins Coffee and Esskay Meats commercials; and the nine-minute experimental film Time Piece, which was nominated for an Oscar for Live Action Short Film in 1966. The collection also features television appearances by Muppets on the Dick Cavett Show, the Tonight Show and 60 Minutes; selected episodes of the Muppet Show, Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock, among others; and films such as Dark Crystal and Muppets Take Manhattan. The public may view the digitized collection in study carrels at the MSPAL and other libraries on campus."

I don't quite want to start a new thread for this, but the Jim Henson Works got launched today. Yeah, it's only good for the U of M campus, but anyone curious can see what they have on hand. (Again, no HTML so cut & paste)

I couldn't find any of the Sam & Friends stuff they claim to have. If I head over there today I might ask a librarian about that stuff though.

Can anyone make this an MP3?

I wish they could make this site open to the public, so people can see these videos some may have not seen before.

I emailed them and they said Sam & Friends will be up there sometime in October! They just need to upload the tapes. Also, anyone who was at the talk with Jane Henson last week can tell you that they are in talks with Sony to make a DVD of the earliest stuff, though I guess the rights issues are muddy between Henson, the local TV station and perhaps others (ie Wilkins Coffee and Esskay Meats, I imagine)
