Mako, who in 1965 co-founded East West Players, the nation's first Asian American theater company, died Friday of esophageal cancer at his home in the Ventura County town of Somis. He was 72. Among animation fans he was best known as the demon Aku in Samurai Jack, and most recently General "Uncle" Iroh in Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Rest in peace, Uncle.

And don't forget he appeared as many different Chinese characters on M*A*S*H.
It's a shame though.

I remember Mako's performance of Aku very well. He gave that ancient monster such a fierce, scary voice.
Farewell Mako. May you RIP. -_-;;

This is really sad news, indeed.:(
Just this past week at the San Diego Comic-Con 2006 event, the writer-director of the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles CGI animated movie (which is supposed to be released in March 2007) announced that Mako would've been the new voice of Master Splinter in the new movie.
I was really excited about this news, because I could definitely picture him being the new voice of Splinter. It's really a sad coincidence that he died a day after that news was announced.
He was a really great actor. He made a couple of appearances on the old 70s Incredible Hulk series (the one with Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno). I will miss him greatly, not just because he was chosen to be the voice of Splinter, but because of his long career as an excellent actor.

I will always remember him appearing with Jackie Chan in Battle Creek Brwal (http://www.impossiblefunky.com/images/archives/issue_6/jackie_aquit.jpg)
