I'm not sure whether this is old news or not, but last night I saw in special marked boxes of Lucky Charms and Honey Nut Cheerios that you can get a free DVD of either "Muppets Take Manhattan" or "Bear in the Big Blue House."
The DVD comes in the box. I picked up the "MTM" DVD. It has previews on it for "Muppets from Space" and "Kermit's Swamp Years." The movie is the full-screen, and only has the sound in Dolby 2.0 (and Spanish, too), but what the heck - it's free!

here is my sickning versoin of the lucky charms jingle:
"Farts, bars, and horse booze, clobbers and baboons, pot and golden rainbows and the red babboons.thats me lucky charms, their magically disgusting."
I think leperchaun flesh is grinded up in the cereal because the clovers are in the form of leperchaun hats.:D

Is there a better version of this DVD, or should I tell my mom to run out tomorrow and get it!?

Well, it's a a great price but...a lot of purists (myself included) would say it's worth paying the extra price for the widescreen edition of the film. You'll get the full picture that director Frank Oz envisioned for the film rather than the cropped version.

I agree - I'm a purist myself and I would have hoped they had a widescreen version, but I didn't have a copy of "Muppets Take Manhattan" and I was out of cereal, so it all worked out nicely.
Free is free :)
Does anyone know if the widescreen version comes in Dolby 5.1?
Though I'm glad the "Kermit's Swamp Years" comes in widescreen, unfortunately we'll only get a full-screen version when "Muppet Christmas Carol" (an annual viewing tradition in my household) comes out.

Alas, according to Amazon.com it only comes in English (Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono) among other languages. Funny thing is both TMM and GMC were remastered...I just don't understand how these things work.

I don't want to sound bitter here, but do you think that Jim. Jerry, Frank, Richard and everyone spent millions of dollars and hours, all this time croutching down behind things with hands outstretched enough to pull a muscle and all this time recording, rerecording, prerecording and editing just so it can come free with a box of "Boffo Flakes!?!?!?""

Funny, I always thought they did it to make millions of people happy. If it lets some family who can't spend $20 on the full DVD watch a great Henson film, who am I to complain?

Exactly. Why is there this sentement that has to coddle to everyone...making everything pan and scan...Blockbuster English dubbing all copies of Crouching Tiger. Man...just a sad state of affairs. But I guess that's your average consumer...just likes his foriegn films and anime dubbed not subtitled, and his films pan and scan non letterboxed.
The Bear free 2 episode dvd on the other hand, I cant wait to get. But yes, I highly reccomend the usually $15 at Best Buy Muppets Take Manhattan dvd. Besides it being my fave Muppet film ever(I mean it has Sesame Street AND Fraggle Rock characters in it!) its got these relaly cool Muppetisms shorts which rock(especially the Pepe one!)

"Frosted Lucky Charms, their magicly discusting!"
you know those "marshmellows" are actualy SMASHED cotton candy bits! LOL!
they even have a new candy out, it has nothing to do with LC, but it's called cotton candy bits, and they are the samething as LC marshmellows, ofcoures i have always known this because i used to be the cotton candy gobblen, not any more thought...
i remember one time i ate two full bags of cotton candy, i didn't throw up, i just felt boalted:p nothing a half a bottle of Dr Pepper couldn't wash down, okay maybe i was the junk food king, but key word, WAS!not anymore,
Zack)Rowlf the, but not that i don't eat junk anymore either;-)Dog.

It's funny, because I can't stand those things whole, but chopped up and mixed with wheat based cereals, it's yummy!

Though I'd like to go off the record as saying my "Boffo Flakes" post was a Joke, I still don't understand why these films come with Cereal.
I mean, I can understand Jackie Chan Adventures and Bear in the Big Blue house, since they are on TV all the time, but MTM and Buddy? There's got to be a catch! I'd rather get the good version...if I had a DVD!
But in all honesty, a lot of movies today look like they should be free in a box of CHex! Look at Big Fat Liar. The whole movie is a bunch of dumb "Blue" jokes. (They told me to pick up a little blue car..NOT A LITTLE BLUE MAN!!! HYUCK HYUCK!!!!, if that's comedy, I'll cross over to drama, thank you very much)
As for "Marshmellow" cereals, I never understood why they use those freeze dried sugar cubes. They really sting my teeth after a while! I even Microwaved a bowl to soften them up. I got hot lumps of freeze dried sugar.
But I gotta admit, the New Scooby Doo marshmellow cereal is pretty good! The cinnamon kills the taste of crusty plastic sugar!

I remember as a child hating the actual cereal part of Lucky Charms because it was so bland and tasted like cardboard. I did like the marshmallows though, but I don't think you could ever compare them to cotton candy- now that stuff is DISGUSTING. The way it melts on your tongue is just too weird. I remember throwing up all night the first time I tried to eat it. Anyways, about the free DVD topic- I think it's a great idea. I think one of the many reasons why the Muppet franchise has been struggling these past few years is that it hasn't had the opportunity to reach a core youth audience. Since it can't do so through television, etc. at the moment, the company's hoping to do it through cereal boxes in the present. I've spoken to many little children who had no idea who Kermit the Frog was before I told him about him because they're so wrapped up in all of ths "Pokemon" garbage and the like; but I'm sure they know all about Lucky Charms and all those other sugary cereals. Kids go down the cereal aisle with mommy or daddy- "Oooh, look there's a free DVD in this cereal-ohhhh- let me get it!"- Kid takes home MTM, watches the movie, love its- and- VOILA- another Muppet fan is created!

Actualy, it's all sugar, when you narrow it down it's all sugar... those orange peanuts are discusting!as the same as luckycharms...some people can't handle the power of cotton candy, it's the dentist's worst enemy, i still can't resist a small taste of it thought, as long as it's fresh, and as long as my toothbrush is near by.
hehe, i remember when i was young i used to put those orange peanuts in the microwave, and enjoy seeing them after they expolded, but my mom didn't like the sticky orange tar stuck in t he micorwave though....

Anyone see the commercial for this? It's one of those commercials that has the cereal comercial to start with, then it shows the free product.
It shows a very short clip of MTM when the characters are side stepping on stage (Haven't seen this movie in YEARS!!!!) it just looked weird. It showed a clip of bear sniffing thin air for one second.
I'm glad they showed th Muppets instead of Jackie Chan clips (don't get me wrong, I like that show, but not as much as the Muppets) and mentioning the Muppets in passing.
Total agreement with Marshmallow cereal. I finally got a box of Count Chocula (never had it before, because it's REALLY pricey as far as cereals go) since it was on sale at Target for 2 bucks. Haven't seen the DVD BOXES OF LUCKY CHARMS Or chex, yet.
Man! This #$%%%^ caps lock key is driving me up the wall!!!

You know, I can go for some time eating Little Debbie snack cakes!
Usually I balance off Junk food with Health food. Like I eat a Caramel Apple or something. Usually when I eat fast food, all I have is a kids meal and a salad. Talk about balancing junk and health foods.

I don't mean to put a cloud over this event, but my mom just bought a box with MTM on it and my initial response was one of joy, but as I thought about it more, I said to myself, "Where do they get off giving away a quality Muppet movie for free?!" On one hand it makes me glad for the promotion of the Muppets, but I also saw it as a statement regarding the Muppets as cheap enough to give away. What do you guys think?

I wish someone had not mentioned that they are the same as the marshmallows in lucky charms. When I was little, I ate a bag of the peanuts and then vomited all over my dad's girlfriend's new shoes while we were driving. Since then, I dread the sight of them- they smell completely nasty. My friend bought me a king size bag of them when I graduated high school to make me smile.
Now, I enjoy the marshmallows in cereals. But I have a problem and Id like to know if anyone else experiences this. They send shivers up my whole body, through my teeth. I cannot eat them along with the grain cereal... I have to eat the grain cereal first, and then eat the marshmallow bits at the end. I usually suck on them to break them down--- otherwise I will have horrible chills when they crunch. The same thing happens if you rub/scratch foam or egg cartons near me... or, sadly, when I walk through fresh fallen snow. :(
Can't they just put the cd on boxes of Cranberry Almond Crunch? Now that's some good cereal.

Oh i never could chew cotton candy, it just went down, i never really wanted the stuff to touch my teeth, nor would i let it sit in my mouth and evaporate, i was just like a vaccum cleaner when i ate it. uhh, err...i don't think that helps....

I saw only boxes of (yuck) Luck Charms with the free DVD's inside. But on the side they all say for you computers DVD -Rom drive??
what's the deal with this?
Do the movies and shows play only in DVD Rom drives or is that just for the AOL promotion?
I'm waiting till i see Cinnomon Toast Crunch cereal with the the DVD's .. but i want to know if it's worth it...

I think the film is of such a high quality, that it is worthy of giving it away free. Think about this a moment. In this day and age, most people still don't own a DVD player. What's a good thing to make people try out new technology? Free stuff! What's even better than that? Quality free stuff. The muppets were chosen for this promotion because they are representatives of quality entertainment. Not because someone thought they were cheap and disposible.
I swear, no matter what is done with Muppets, |someone| is gonna find a way to get upset.

Why would anyone even want the disc? It's only in pan-and-scan...
petrieboy

If someone is not a big muppet fan, they will want it even though it is pan and scan. I told my friends about this cereal bonus and they thought I was joking, that a dvd came free with Lucky Charms. They laughed. One of them doesn't have a dvd player and he has been thinking about getting one recently- if he sees the cereal I think he'll buy it, and will soon get a dvd player. Think of a movie you don't really care about and never would have bought, but a movie that you wouldn't mind watching every blue moon. You wouldn't buy it period, it's free... why not? I do want to know, what other dvds are available? Bear in the Blue House? I've never seen this show. Which episode(s) is it? Was it originally shot in pan/scan? Also, do these dvds come in an original case or in a promotional, free cheapie case?

I'll have to meet you guys both ways. I feel hurt that a classic Muppet Movie comes free with the purchase of cereal ( while people are dumb enogh to buy DVD's of Big Fart Liar and Disney's cheapquals). However, if it's for promoting the Muppets to those of the Jaded public force fed the same old crap on the Telly (television, not the Monster) I agree with it. Though, personally, If I had a DVD, I'd rather go to best buy and pick up TMTM for 9.99 for commentary and the like.
As for Pan and Scan...Yes, Bear and Jackie Chan (both being made for TV) are not originally shot in Widescreen, as with Jackie Chan, Animators have to use special feild guides to make sure nothing goes off the standard TV screen visually! Bear is a TV show, and as such, also follows a similar rule. Besides, Movie cameras and TV Cameras usually have special differences in these ways!
But really! A Peanut, colored orange and banana flavored? Who was the "brilliant" dude that came up with that?

Okay, I'm hoping that when I go to the grocery store later this afternoon, there will be a box of cereal waiting for me with a "MTM" DVD inside. However, is there any way to guarantee that it's the Muppet DVD that I get?
I have little to no interest in "Bear in the Blue House" or "Jackie Chan Adventures".... and I'm certainly not going to buy several boxes of cereal searching for the one I want.... (I went through that in a mild way with the Sesame Street mini-beans (darn Snuffy! Where were you??)
Thanks.

I'm so glad they actually come INSIDE the cereal, rather than having to send away for it. I should have sent away for the entire Sesame collection, but didn't for some stupid reason.
I have seen these window packages. It's not the first time. They started doing it with the Toy Story 2 hanging...things... on boxes of the afformentioned Yucky CHarms. This is great. Not only do I know what it is, but I know that it's there, and won't sift my hands through the box to find nothing!
