Dreams are strange things, they have baffled psychologists for years. No one really knows what dreams are, but there are many theories. Now, everyone has strange dreams, tell us about yours. I open a friendly dream discussion to talk about dreams and what they mean or where they come from. (Sorry if this type of thread has been done before.)

I know what you mean. When I was younger (between the ages on 3 and 5), occasionally I'd have a series of nightmares in which my family lived in our church, and I would always be stalked by this green and purple glowing German Shepard. Then sometimes I have really cool dreams that I want to have again, but never happen. I'd also like to have a dream where I make-out with Kathy Greenwood.
Other than that, my number one dream is to be a Muppeteer for Sesame Street.

I have premonition dreams. I dream of something and then it happens, always get that deja vu feeling. Unfortunately, they're never about anything important. Like, my Uncle once had this recurring dream of a plane crash for several months. And from the dream he could remember the flight number and the time it crashed. Then a few years later he was watching the news and he saw that the plane he had dreamed about had crashed at the same time it had in his dream, weird. Anyway, has something like this ever happened to any of you?

I know what you mean. I've dreamed about someone or something that I haven't talked to or had any thought about for ages and then in a day or two that very person or thing comes in my life (whether at a store, a phone call, etc.) Very interesting. As I said recently while dreaming a lot about my fiance, I think dreams are sometimes a therapeutic way of the mind sorting things out. I've also heard before that dreams usually reflect our desires and our fears and I've identified that to be the case with numerous dreams of mine. I think God, who uses many circumstances to teach us things, also uses dreams for our benefit too. Finally, one interesting thing about my dreams is I often am aware that I am dreaming while in the dream itself. So if I am ever in any kind of danger, such as dreaming that a ferocious dog is chasing me or that I'm driving fast on a road and can't see through the windshield, even though I am scared I also just tell myself, "Well, at least this is just a dream so I can open my eyes and escape this anytime." Perty peculiar, eh?
I also particularly am amused by dreams that have improbable or impossible combinations - like dreaming that I am talking to someone at a location that they have never even been to.

That is called a Lucid Dream, to use a term from Psych. Next time that happens try to change the dream, like adding a purple spotted cow or something, it could be fun...ny. Of course I never have Lucid Dreams, no matter how crazy my dreams are, I always think they're real while I'm having them.

One of the most blatant examples of a lucid dream I had was in the late 90's a few years after an uncle died of heart failure at just age 49. I dreamed we were all sitting around the living room and he said something like, "Well I'll bet my body really stinks in the ground by now!" And everyone laughed. Then I said, "Wait a minute. If you died then how can you be here right now talking about it?" Then I answered my own question, "Oh, because I'm just dreaming."
And I think this was also a therapeutic type dream in that I was still grieving for my uncle, whom was one of my family members I was closest with, and this provided a nice way to get to talk to him again even though it wasn't really happening.

I had a dream I was a duck, and I worked at a Burger King run by ducks. It started out with me starting my first day of work and the manger telling me what I was to do.
Then the dream zoomed out the window and focused on a couple walking by the restaurant. The male says, "hey, isn't that the Burger King run by ducks?"
And the female says, "yeah, it is."
Then the dream zooms back over to me, but I'm standing in the parking lot. Next, two of your average evil movie goons start chasing me. So I run through the parking lot and jump on this red car. I try to jump into the air and fly, but I can't seem to do it. So I jump off the car and start running again.
Suddenly my Grandma is running beside me(she is in human form). And we run into this mall parking lot and then into the mall with the two goons still chasing us. So, we're running through this mall and a lady comes on the intercom system and says that the mall is closing in 5 min and if we don't get out in time we will be locked inside. She also says that for the next 5 min everything in the mall is free.
So everyone in the mall start running around like crazy, grabbing things and heading for the exits. My Grandma and I run into a store with the goons, and she grabs a metal bird cage and a pair of moccasins. She also tries to get a piano, but quickly abandons the idea.
So with an alarm blaring we run for the exit and we get out just in time. The goons on the other hand did not.
So we're running through the parking lot again and my Grandma just fades away. And I jump onto a red car, jump into the air, and fly away.
Strange dream no?

Somewhat so. But that's the nature of a typical dream (funny how the dreams depicted in tv shows and movies often are so "normal" and logical. Ain't the way they often really go!). Good thing you ate your BK food for energy to elude those goons. I worked at a BK before as a teen but always liked the food at Mickey D's and Wendy's far better. Also, pretty funny that ducks were serving chicken sandwiches to customers. Fine feathered friends, eh?! Also, your dream had elements of fear in it and possibly desire (your grandmother's presence). Add to that the inability to fly at one point (comparable to the frequently cited characteristic in dreams about trying to run away but just can't seem to be able to) and you've got one perfectly normal and typical bizarre dream there, Red Dragon.
I'll have fries with that, please. No, make that onion rings (the ONE good thing about BK - they have OR's on the menu).
Ohhh and one more observation - your successfully making it out of the mall and escaping those goons seems like another typical dream trait: we always are spared from the danger in dreams. In other words, does anyone ever say they dreamed the car they were driving crashed into something, the dog that was chasing them caught them and bit them badly, the person who was chasing them caught them and beat them up, etc? I don't think so. I once also heard that if you dream that you are falling and end up dreaming that you actually hit the ground then you will really die in real life. But I think there's some doubt to that! :zany:
RedDragon
10-08-2005, 12:52 PM
Yeah, I'm normal, sorta. Yeah, um the falling thing is not true. Its just an urban legend. In dreams you can never actually see yourself die, it just doesn't happen. You may see someone coming after you with a knife, then you see your funeral, but you never see the person stab you. And just because you die in a dream doesn't mean you're going to die in real life. I mean, you will die, at some point, just not for a few years yet. Dreams are very strange.

I had a dream I was running over a bridge and my clothes kept falling off. And then a car drove past me, and I realised that I was in a car fully-clad. And that it wasn't a car it was a truck. And I was driving. And I had to drive this huge truck over this bridge that was about 10cm thick. Anyway, the bridge snapped and I started falling, but instead of waking up like you usually do I was falling for, like, ever....and then I woke up.

I actually had a dream where I was falling down a cliff. Of course i didn't feel a thing when I hit the ground. It seemed like that time was going really slow once I started to fall.

Had a weird dream the other night. Don't really remember much about it, but... I remember being in my dining room with my dad, and then my grandma came, and then my uncle came, and then we were all just sort of sitting around eating bread. Two different kinds of bread, actually, although I don't exaclty remember what kinds of bread. And then my grandma was saying something to me, and I was thinking, ooh, that sounds really Kaballah-ish. So I said something about how it sounded very much like Kaballah, and made a mental note to tell my mom about it. (My mom has gotten into Kaballah recently.) Didn't realize it was a dream until I woke up, but then I thought, hey I should still tell Mom about what my grandma said in the dream, 'cause it's a lot like Kaballah. Only trouble is, I no longer have any recollection of what it is my grandma said that was so Kaballah-ish in my dream.
...so I guess my dream was about bread and Kaballah? Because that's about all I remember of it... not so random when you consider that my mom keeps talking about Kaballah and for years it was very typical for my entire dinner to be bread...

I had a dream about running late to hear my oboe instructor playing..at least I think it was him, anyways all that I remember from it was running to these double doors to listen in. I remember hearing the music and then a few minutes later I woke up. I don't remember the piece and I did not stay sleeping long enough to hear the title of it. So I'm not even sure if it is an actual piece or not. I really hope to oneday hear it again.

I almost always dream about being late going somwhere, Work, church, practice, etc. It's my biggest fear.
Another dream that I have is about...posting on MC...when I had 10,000 posts, I decided to not post for a while so I could stay at 10,000. And then I had the longest dream where I kept replying to stuff, and then suddenly remebering and deleteing the reply...
I once had a dream that I met some of you guys, but I can't remember much of it.

I don't know if this happens to anyone else but I have reccuring dreams kind of,
I used to be scared of turkeys when I was young (and still am) everynight a Turkey comes up with somthing to kill me, and the strange thing is often things that bear similar resemblence to this evil Turkey's plots come up on the news and stuff or happens to me in a less violent sort of way though.

Last night I had a dream that I was on MC.
I also had a dream that my car, an old silver Chevy(I don't actually own a car, but that's what it was) broke down in the middle of the road(middle being on those yellow lines the median). And these nerdy guys came over to help me, they obvious didn't know how to fix it. Long story short, some how we got some acidic goo on our hands and in started to burn us, I specifically remember it hurting. So I ran into a nearby bathroom and washed it off. But it had already eaten through my skin in some areas and I was bleeding. The dream ended this me trying to stop the bleeding.
And my goal in life is to become an elf :) (but let's face it, that ain't gonna happen)

That's definately the worst. You wake up and the images and story of your dream are so vivid and clear, but the more you think about it, the faster it starts to fade away until all your left with is that general, "yeah, I had a dream, but...."
I used to keep a dream journal. By doing so, I was pretty much guaranteed to have a dream every night.

I still try to write down ythe deeams i have. to me it's just another way of walking down memory lane like flipping throught the photo album....
One dream that comes to mind is where i was at this house out in the country. the family that lives there are friends of my family since i was 12. this house, though, was not right. it was nothing like the house they still live in. same family, same property in the country, wrong house. anyway, i was in the house and the mom of this family, Louise, asked me to get the other kids in for dinner. so i went out by the barn and the back yard, called in her kids and my siblings. I couldn't find one of my sisters, so i started to climb the silo.....
here she is playing checkers with her friend Angi on top of the silo!! I told them is was dinner time and they headed on down the side of the silo. just then i turned around to go down the ladder and loose my footing. i was falling. as i was falling faster and faster to the ground i braced myself for inpact. just as i felt the blades of grass on my face, i woke up.
weird huh?

How about this exchange from Abbott and Costello? :
Costello: I eat baseball, I drink baseball. All night when I'm asleep I dream about baseball.
Abbott: Don't you ever dream about girls?
Costello: What and miss my turn up at bat?

How about this stange dream I had last night: of course some of you may have guessed by now, I hate the 11th grade, so sometimes I make jokes about "Buckin' for a Section 8". Well last night I had a dream that I was just doing that! I walked around town in Kathy's blue blouse, but the funny thing is, like Klinger, everyone saw nothing out of the ordinary, except for this one small family...
LITTLE GIRL: Look mommy, that guy's wearing a shirt like your's.
MOTHER: Pay no attention to him sweetie, he's one of those transvestites!
But other than that, no one even noticed what I was doing, so later that evening I had a "meeting" with Klinger to discuss the whole ordeal...and suddenly, it's like I don't even want to take off the blouse!

I had this one dream where I inherited "my grandma's" house. And I go to check out. And its all rainy and dark and of course the lights don't work. So I'm in this dark house and I hear this noise. I check out all the rooms and don't find anything. Then I go down stairs into the basement, but still nothing. Next, I find this trap that opens into a tunnel that takes me futher down in to the ground. The noise is getting louder all this time. Well I come out into this deep underground room. And I get attacked by "my grandma's" ghost. So I go running to the surface and out of the house with the ghost chasing me.
I've also had this recuring dream, sort of. Each new dream is like a new episode that follows the same basic plot line. So I'm a part of this team that has been infect with this alien virus and we have to stop the virus from spreading. And in each new episode the virus causes a different type of mutation to occur in other infecties(not so much with my team, but we are changing as well). And so I happen to be the main female character from the show Threshold. And my group consists of: the man who plays Clark Kent(superman) in the show Smallville. The woman who plays Natasha in the James Bond movie Goldeneye. And Robin the Boy Wonder from the show Teen Titans(only he's live action and doesn't wear his "Boy Wonder" get-up). We all wear dark colored uniforms and go around fighting these alien mutants. Fun, eh?

I had a weird dream last night...
My Mom, my Grandma Emily, and I are celebrating Mother's Day at some outdoor picnic place. And Mom and me start talking about her BF, about marriage. And I say my going to walk to his house and kick him, and if I have the determination to do that (it's an hour drive) he should have the determination to marry her....
Very strange...that don't even want to think about marriage right now...

I don't usually have dreams.... only nightmares..... which I guess are dreams. About a year and a half ago (nov. '04) I started having the recurring nightmares in which I was being chased by someone (always a different person). They happened almost every night until july of '05.
Also, a few weeks ago, I dreamt that one of my really good friends was going to kill a bunch of people.... which is now funnier than scary because he's really not the kind of person you would expect to be a mass murderer.

My bunny gave me nightmares the first night I got him...
In the dream...I wake up in bed with my glasses on, I roll over, take them off and set them on my nightstand next to another pair of glasses. Then I see a third pair of glasses floating over my nightstand, I move to grab them so I can put them down next to the others. As my fingers fall upon them they turn and an invisible hand grabs me by the throat pulling me into a sitting position. Then it starts choking me, I can hardly breath, and start looking around for help. I see my bunny has gotten out of his cage and is balancing on his back legs (what I call prairie dogging) in the middle of my room sniffing the air. Suddenly I break free and run to my door, and out into the hallway. I look into my brother's room and see him standing, clutching his neck with one arm out to ward something off, it looked like someone was Vader choking him. I go in and shake him, he comes back to himself and pushes me away saying "leave me alone." I turn and run to my mom's room to find her sleeping on the floor where I used to sleep when I had nightmares...
And your welcome DS...

Maybe someone can make sense of this dream...it was kinda weird and out there. Again, it's a "stream of consienious" type dream. It's the only way I remember them.
I'm in the puppetry stand at church (it's a very small pvc pipe box, covered in brown felt. It's so small, it's about 3 feet across and about 7 feet high. The window to work from is only 2 feet wide. x_X) and I'm sitting on a chair, a microphone on my head (like the muppeter's ones) and I'm just doing my thing, when suddenly I look down during a pause in speaking, and I notice I'm not actually in a chair, but a wheelchair!
I keep doing the skit, and it's over after a few minutes. The children leave to go do crafts. (I guess it was VBS or something.) And I wheel out from the puppetery box. I've stopped and I'm talking to Cindy. (The mother of my best friend, Katie. She's just about the only one who can do a human counterpart to my puppet without messing it up, or acting like the puppet's not real.)
There are a few men sitting in the pews still, and they're the muppeter's. Strangely enough Richard and Jim are there as well. I've got Tina (my puppet) still in my lap, and they come and talk to me. It's all like a foreign language because I don't seem to understand it. Then Cindy points to her ear, and I pull off my microphone headset, and put in a hearing aid.
Suddenly, we're all at Subway eating lunch. I'm sitting at the head of one of the tables, with Richard, Jim, Frank, Jerry, Cindy, and my parents. Mom pulls out a large folder, and hands it to me.
Mom: Oh, I almost forgot sweetheart -- here's that stuff you wanted me to pick up.
Me: *there's no writing on the folder, and without opening it.* What is it? There's nothing on here.
Mom: It's your stuff from DSS. (Department of Social Services. I am adopted, btw.)
Me: You went and picked it up? *Starts to open the folder anyways.* Shouldn't you have had a signature or something from me??
Mom: Oh, no I thought I would have, but they said because you're still dependent on me and everything I just had to show them my driver's liensce.
*While I'm opening the folder, Richard is just grinning from ear to ear. Frank is quiet, and watching with expection; and Jim's talking to my Dad about cars.*
Me: Wow. The three page thing wasn't true, Mom! Did you look at this stuff yet?
Mom: No, I figured it would be best if you read it first. ^_^
Me: *reading the folder again* .... *looks up at Richard* .....Richard?
Richard: *Looks like he's either about to hit the roof laughing, or is about to bolt up and start running. He looks absolutely hyper right then.* Y-Yeah?
Me: ....You're the drunkard indian?
Richard: Yeah, I guess I am!
Frank: Wait...drunkard Indian? What is she talking about, Richard??
(realize a bit of backstory to go with that statement. In a 3-page descriptor information packet that the hospital/DSS [not sure which still] gave to my mother, was that my mother worked as an "exotic dancer" [their words exactly] and had another son before me. 1 year older to be exact. And that my father worked in a construction company, fixing roofs. It was also said that my father claimed to be part of the Cherokee Indian tribe, although he was registered, he is like 75% Cherokee Indian, and his father is 100% Cherokee Indian. He also drank....A LOT. And he would get violent when he got drunk, and that is why my mother wanted to leave him, but he left her in the 1st trimester.)
Then, suddenly we're at the park. My Dad (adopted dad) is checking out Jim's car, and Frank and Jerry are talking with my Mom and Cindy. Richard is wheeling me around, and we're talking about just...everything.
Me: Why didn't you keep me?
Richard: Well....my wife died having you....and you were very sick.
Me: Oh. *looks down* If it was...different...you would have kept me, right?
Richard: Oh yeah, defiantely!
Me: Why did they lie to me though? I mean, it's not like I would have tried to find you before I was of age or anything. It's just...all this time....
Richard: Your father was a wife-beating, drunkard. And your mother was a dancer...and not the good kind either.
Me: Yeah! I mean....Oh I don't know, Richard. I just wish I had known the truth.
Richard: But the truth would have probably hurt you more. Ever wonder why your mother always recorded all of those muppet movies?
Me: She's told me she likes them....although she dosn't really watch them much. She usually sleeps when I put a muppet movie on.
Richard: Why else would she record them?
Me: It's good and it's wholesome....for the most part.
Richard: Yeah. But it's something I asked her to do.
*He stops pushing me, and we stop beside a large tree. He picks me up with ease, and carries me over to sit underneath the large tree.*
Richard: You've got your mother's hair and eyes. And my face.
Me: With a bit of sun, I've got your skin too. But being inside most of the time, has really paled my skin up too much.
Richard: *is gently running one hand through my hair. He's quiet for a bit, then he flashes a big smile at me.* I've always thought of you.
Me: If they put the real information, even sparse as that information from the hospital was......you and they knew I would know who it was, huh?
Richard: Yeah. It was too descriptive.
Me: But then...just don't give me any information.
Richard: Back then, they had too. It was the law I think.
Me: ....if it was the law, then why falseify it?
Richard: Your mother wanted to. Because...I was kind of a celebrity, she wanted to keep it kind of hush-hush, for your own safety.
Me: I guess so.
Richard: *pulls me into a tight hug, smiling.* But I've got you now. And we're going to make up for all the time we've missed. *looks down for a moment, into my face. It almost looks like he's going to cry now.* I never thought I'd see this day though.
Me: ...to see me again?
Richard: To see you as a full-grown young lady. You're as beautiful as I thought you'd be.
Me: *I smile, as he leans in and plants a kiss on my forehead. He scoops me up again, and sets me back in my wheelchair.*
Richard: How'd you get in that wheelchair anyways?
Me: I fell off of the church's roof putting up a banner for VBS. Broke two of my vertabrae, and for safety reasons, they've medically paralzed me, until it heals naturally.
Richard: *Gets a real worried expression, looking down at me.* I hope I didn't hurt you!
Me: No, you'd have to punch me in that spot to hurt me. Just picking me up, won't do anything. *I tap my midsection and a slight "plack" of plastic is heard. I lift up my shirt a bit, revealing a soft rubber/plastic midsection brace.*
Richard: I never even felt that when I picked you up...
Me: You wouldn't notice it, unless you knew it was there. It's soft on the outside, so it kinda molds to the hand. Feels almost like real flesh. I can only take it off when I'm taking a bath.
Richard: Oh, cool...I think.
Me: Let's go tear Daddy away from Jim's car, and go to DQ.
Richard: Ice cream, icees and hotdogs. Very good idea.
Then we all start out to go to DQ, and the muppeter's are in one car, while the rest of us are in Cindy's van. The dream turned into a nightmare though, because on the way to Dairy Queen....the muppeter's car got slammed by a 18-wheeler truck. Out of nowhere, it just slams into them. Because we stopped so suddenly, a truck slams into the back of the van. We're not hurt, but my wheelchair is totalled. We finally roll to a stop and Cindy helps me out of the car. She carries me over to the wreckage, and she spots Richard. Jim's car was a convertiable, it's top was down. Richard and Jim were both thrown from the car. Cindy sets me beside Richard, then goes to find Jim.
Richard is barely alive, and I hold his hand. He's worried and scared, I can see it in his eyes. I start to cry, then for no reason at all, to try to take his mind away from what's happening, I just sing one of his songs. I don't remember what I sang, but he seemed to smile a little. The paramedics arrive, and before they take him away, I give him a kiss on the forehead. One of the paramedics gently tell me I have to leave the scene. I look around, expecting to see Cindy, or my mother, but no one else is there. The van isn't there anymore. No glass or anything. Just Jim's car. The paramedic then lifts me up, and takes me into the ambluance. He starts to bandage my legs, and puts splints on them. I overhear what one of them relays over a communications thing.
Paramedic: We've got 4 men, one is DOA, the other is in critial condition. The other two men are badly brusied, with concussions, but nothing else is wrong. Upon arrival we found a young lady, about 18 or so years old, she's been paralyzed from the accident, and seems to have recieved a head injury. She's claiming she wasn't hurt, we're bringing her in anyways, to get checked out.
Then it just fades to black, as I'm holding Richard's hand, keeping eye contact with him.
