Ok in season one Of Fraggle Rock Doc Says "Here's a Letter From Kermit." Correct me If I'm wrong but didn't Muppet Family Christmas take place near the end of Fraggle Rocks Run? So who is this Kermit Doc Is So happy to get a letter from?

Actually, if you listen hard there's a few of Doc's letters that come from people sharing names with cast and crew members. I think it's nice. Keeping it in the family so to speak.

Even though the Fraggles and Kermit/Robin met in MFC, that doesn't mean that Doc didn't know Kermit prior to the christmas special. After all, he and Sprocket show up (if I remember correctly) toting Piggy on a doggie sled (right)? So, I would think that suggests Doc knew The Muppets prior to the christmas special--otherwise, how'd he get invited?

True; among others, Doc got mail from Caroly (Wilcox) and Duncan (Kentworthy). And Sprocket's vet is named Dr. (Al) Gottesman. Can anyone recall others?

I thought he was renting the house from Fozzies Mum whilst she goes on vacation but all the plans change when fozzie and the muppets show up unexpectedly.

I admit, I don't remember exactly. I need to find the old VHS I made years ago.

There has been a couple of Muppet Show references on Fraggle Rock, I remember one episode where Sprocket does the Swedish Chef impression (while throwing wooden spoons in the air!) and another one in a Travelling Matt segment about Holloween where a couple of kids dressed up as Kermit & Miss Piggy :D

It's from "The Cavern of Lost Dreams"--released last week! :)

The 'Kermit' Doc is referring to doesn't even have to be Kermit The Frog. Lots of people (even, a person I knew from grade school) have Kermit as their first name.

I always thought Kermit was a name Jim Henson made up, and when somebody says Kermit my brain automatically puts "The Frog" Afterwards. That's really suprising ... poor kid in his case I guess having a name like that not easy being green takes on a whole new meaning. :excited:

I think Kermit is a cool name! People don't realize that it is a name people actually have, not one just made up by Henson. Of course the frog is the most famous Kermit and anyone who hears the name will always think of Kermit the Frog. The same thing goes for names like Grover. There were people named Grover long before Sesame Street aired in 69, but you probably will never hear of someone naming their baby Grover again because of our lovable blue monster friend.

It would also be kind of mean to name a child Grover or Kermit nowadays. Since they are always associated with SS.
I watched that episode yesterday. I rewound (so to speak) it and watched that part again. I was all, "Did Doc just say...?" ><

Before the Muppets became famous, Kermit was a common name. I have read that Jim Henson did have a friend named Kermit, but some sources have said that Kermit The Frog wasn't named after Jims friend while other sources say that he was named after a childhood friend.
Oh, and Kermit The Frog wasn't named after Kermit Love, in case you are wondering.
As for muppet refferences, I have read that in one of Traveling Matts post card segments, he went to a drive-in that was playing The Dark Crystal, and I remember seeing a Grover doll in the background of a bedroom in Uncle Matts Discovery.

That's kind of what I mean. No one would name their child those names because of Sesame Street.

I don't know if it is only because the names Kermit and Grover are famous muppets that no one would use them. I have a friend who goes by the name Mickey, and even though he does get many mouse jokes I don't think it is unusual. I also know an Oscar. So the existance of Kermit and Grover might have some influence over parents naming their kids, but that cannot be the only factor.

My eldest is called Oscar and when we were naming him we did got through all the famous Oscars we could think of including the ol' Grouch but the fact is that -allthough the name will always be associated with him - he hasn't necessarily become *the* iconograph of the name whereas I think Kermit and to a slightly lesser extent Grover have. Besides, I don't know about in the States but over here if Grover was ever used as a given name it has long since fallen out of use.
As for Mickey, yeah he's an icon but it is short for Michael so it can carry through.

I used to think Kermit was a made up name till I read about someone in the Civil War having it. I think it was a general or something.

Just to refresh your memory. He rents the house from Fozzie's Mom but when they get there Sprocket says or barks or growls something and Doc says, "No I didn't know I was renting from a bear." Then when Fozzie and the others show up Doc ask Sprocket if these are the same as the fraggles he keeps telling him about and Sprocket signs with paw that there kind of like them just not them. There you. So he doesn't know the Muppets before hand.

Doc didn't know the Muppets, only from TV. If even that. Fozzies mother introduces her son and weird friends from television... one obviously being Kermit. So, no he ddn't no them before.
As to how he knew Miss Piggy... Kermit gave him a description.
Doc: What does your friend look like?
Kermit: well, um. Shes a pig
And he wasn't invited... Fozzie's Mother was renting the house out to him, as she goes on a cruise i think it was? and Fozzie was planning a surprise visit with all his friends.
