View Full Version : Muppet Dynamic Duos
Ever think about how some Muppeteers are often paired up with the characters they play? It seems like Jim Henson and Frank Oz were always together, and then there was Carroll Spinney and Martin Robinson, Jerry Nelson and Richard Hunt, and then Steve Whitmire and Dave Goelz. Here is a breakdown to explain what I mean:
Henson & Oz
Kermit & Miss Piggy
Kermit & Fozzie
Kermit & Grover
Ernie & Bert
Ernie & Cookie Monster
Nelson & Hunt
Pa Gorg & Junior Gorg
Floyd & Janice
Two-Headed Monster
Whitmire & Goelz
Rizzo & Gonzo
Wembley & Boober
Lips & Zoot (they were just very similar types is all)
Spinney & Robinson
Big Bird & Snuffy
Oscar & Telly
Oscar & Slimey
I am sure there are others but I can't think of them at the moment.

Oh yes. I did think about that one. Rowlf and Fozzie seemed to be together quite a bit (especially in the Muppet Babies series)
Dave and Eren: Zoot and Janice (TMS 1st Season)
Henson and Hunt: Statler and Waldorf
Henson and Hunt: Kermit and Scooter
Henson and Nelson: Kermit and Floyd

Yes, but these don't really count because Kermit and Floyd were not really a frequent duo. I suppose Kermit and Scooter were though. I will give you that.

Also in the, Why Can't We Be Friends, song in the Muppet Show. Jerry and Richard performed two French generals. And Dave and Steve performed two American soldiers.

Another Jim Henson and Frank Oz pairing is Ernie and Lefty The Salesman. And if you are going to list The Swedish Chef as a Henson and Oz pairing because Frank Oz performed the chefs hands, then you should inlcude Dr. Phil Van Neuter as a Brian henson and Bill Barretta pairing, since Bill Barretta normally performed Dr. Phil Van Neuters hands.
Another Henson/ Oz pairing would be Guy Smiley and Cookie Monster, since Cookie Monster has appeared in some of Guys game shows, including Beat the Time, What's My Part?, and The Remembering Game. Also, Guy Smiley has appeared in Cookie Monsters song They can't Take That Away From Me, and Guy appeared at the end of the sketch where Cookie Monster went to the bakery to buy something that rhymes with "Buy".

Jerry and Richard were also that Muppet version of the two headed monster in the Ben Vereen episode, I think.

They were two cats who tormented Oscar the Grouch. And no, I believe Kevin Clash performed the other cat.
Speaking of which, I'm surprised no one mentioned Kevin Clash and Fran Brill being paired up:
Elmo & Zoe
Elmo & Prairie Dawn
Eliot Shag & Colleen Barker/Terri Springer

I think Chip and Dip ended up playing in Hoots' band.
