:excited:

I haven't got the DVDs yet (but I will!), but I am still amazed at this set. Of the main Muppet series (TMS, SS, and FR), FR is the one I've seen the least episodes of, so I'm really glad that these episodes will now be released (and full edits, too!). I love all the "behind the scenes" archival stuff included (I never saw the original documentary, and just seeing that original Gobo picture...call me weird, but I just love seeing original characters like that). It's interesting that, while TMS may be better known (and the DVDs came from the infamous Disney corporation), they fall short when compared to everything on the FR discs. They'll definitely be one of the high points in my Muppet collection. I just wish I had the money for them now. :smirk:

I just hope that future sets are on the way. Does anyone have any info concerning subsequent seasons being released?

Got my copy of it yesterday and it's great. I really enjoyed seeing the short clips from behind the scenes that is used in the interviews, stuff that is not in the documentary. Also the audition clips, its funny to see Jerry as Wembley, Steve as Gobo, Kathy as Red and Karen as Mokey :).

I really enjoy this set more than the TMS set.

I have noticed that you seem to get a lot of Muppet DVD and audio releases before they are avilible. Do you have some kidn of special deal to get these early, so that you can review them before people can buy them?

Also, in the review, it says that the openig for The terrible Tunnel had Gobo saying Down At Fraggle Rock. I thought he said that in The Finger of Light.

I have noticed on the Hit releases that the logo is changed so that the Muppets name is not in the openign credits. Since the opening never changed, it's possible that Hit (or henson) only changed one opening and used that for each episode, instead of changing the opening for every single episode, and possibly did not know about the alternate opening endings.

It would have been good if all of the "Down at Fraggle Rock" sequences were included as a bonus feature. In terry angus' interview on Muppet central, it is said that a different opening was filmed but never used. it would have been great if that opening was used.

That's weird. So they didn't change the logo, yet the openigns still don't end with Gobo and Wembly saying Down At Fraggle Rock? Now, if this was the altered logo (which says "Jim Hensons Fraggle Rock" instead of "Fraggle Rock starring Jim Hensons Muppets" that would be more understandable).

I must say that I am getting extremely excited about these Fraggle Rock DVDs. I have never been a huge FR fan and I know I have seen at lease a few episodes before, but remember it very vaguely. I would like to get into it more. It was such a classic like the other Muppet productions but way different. This was such a unique creation. I wish I had been more of a fan before. Do we know how much the set will cost?

The regular price for the DVD collection is set at $44.99, however many store will have it for slightly less.

You can get Fraggle Rock Season 1 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0009RQSSW/muppetcentral/) from Amazon and iof you use this link, and a portion of your order will go to Muppet Central to help keep the site and forum running smoothly. It's a great way to help MC and get a great price on the DVD set of $31.49 with free shipping.

Those changes were made a long time ago while the show was in syndication.
Nothing to do with HIT.

Besides Gobo and Wembley's opening being cut, this looks every bit as good as The Muppet Show's season set. I'm so excited to see what the people have to say about it in the new interviews.

So! I've pretty much been eagerly anticipating the box set release all summer, and I was planning on picking it up on the 6th when I thought it was being released.

Imagine my surprise when I saw it at Wal-Mart, squealed and bought it.
It's beautiful. But why was it for sale on Spetember 1st? Is it a Canada thing? Please explain.

if anyone wants, i could take screen caps of the two alternate openings. that sucks that they're not included, but not TOO important. i'm thinking this is an even better release than season 1 of TMS because this is actually the COMPLETE season 1...nothing edited out or anything. I love TMS, but my heart belongs to the fraggles forever and am so excited about this.

Have to say after watching Fraggle Rock on old beat up tapes since I was 5 this is a treat. It's so clear, I'm glad they fixed it up some. Love the box set, love the bonus features, it's increadable. I hope they get season two out soon. The only really thing that bugged me was no subtitles. But other than that, love it. Does anyone know why Wal-mart is not carring this? I had to travel over thirty miles to our local Best buy, and I'm glad I got there when I did because like the Muppet Show it was the last one they had.

Got it yesterday at Wal-Wart for 36$ and some odd random number of cents.

It.

Is.

Amazing!!

I absolutely LOVE it. The whole replica notebook? Yeah, I didn't know it was going to be an actual notebook, I thought it was some kind of bonus feature on the bonus disk. Imagine my surprise! I thought that on it's own was amazing. So far I have watched just the bonus features, and the opening theme of the first episode. Since I have the first 3 single-disk releases, I've seen the first 3 episodes, plus Catch a Tail by the Tiger.

First thing I watched was the documentary, Down at Fraggle Rock. It was so cool! Mainly because it was in the 80's, and you can see everyone actually working on their puppets. That made me SO happy. As I LOVE all things muppets, I know pretty much squat about puppeteering and the whole process involved. So I found it absolutely fascinating. And also, I had never seen a picture of Richard Hunt before. So I got to see him actually talk to the camera and talk in his normal voice and Junior Gorg's voice. That was particularily cool and made me smile. :)

I then watched all of the new interviews. All in a row, just now, actually. What can I say, I am SO impressed! I liked hearing from the writers, producers, etc. to see what making the show was actually like, the creative process involved, etc. So fascinating. And then being able to see new interviews with the puppeteers (Who all look and sound really good, by the way!) was just amazing. It's so interesting to be able to see the puppeteers behind my favourite characters, and learn how their character came about, how it's a part of them. It was just amazing.

And I haven't even watched one of the episodes yet! I've only seen 5 episodes (that I can remember) on this set, so I can't wait to start watching them!

Oh, and neat box. It confused me at first, though. But it's fun. And I like how the menus are basic, but themed for each disk, so that was really cool.

So, a million stars out of five. :smirk: :excited: We need more fraggle smilies!

The bonus cd-rom has wallpapers, screensavers, desktop themes, and a small game. It's a neat addition. (I hope I didn't forget anything) I recieved my copy tuesday. I love it. The interviews are really great. So far I'm enjoying every moment of Fraggely fun. Also, I don't know if any other places are, but my local Best Buy had the set on sale. So I got it for $29.99 instead of $37.99. (Which my wallet enjoyed.) Now if you'll excuse me I gotta go watch disk three. :)

Well, my niece loved the music and dancing... but being about 2 is a little young to really get into the Fraggles.

One thing I did learn though-- make a backup copy of the disc and leave the backup in the DVD player, to protect the original disc. Turns out my neice DOES know how to eject the tray in the DVD plater...

I was in a very grumpy mood yesterday when I came home to my Box Set on my kitchen table. Needless to say, my grumpiness dissipated and I was one happy Fraggle Fan. I jumped up and down for a while, screamed & squeaked a bit, then proceeded to watch all of the interviews and some episodes.

It was so exciting to see the extra backstage shots we've never seen before and to see Michael Frith's beautiful sketches from the conferences. The topics for each of the interviews are all interesting and it's great to hear the stories told by them. I especially loved the one interview about the episode "Marooned." It is my favorite episode and a brilliant one at that. I was kind of hoping they would do that for more episodes.

I loved seeing the audition footage, it's was pretty funny. Watching Kathy Mullen as Red & Karen Prell as Mokey felt wrong. I really love Karen as Red so it was kinda hard.

The quality of the episodes is superb. I reccommend this set to anyone and everyone. The way I see it, the more people buy it, they can realize that this was a good investment and continue for the other three seasons. I understand waiting to save up, but don't miss out!

I only have one complaint. I heard that Best Buy was going to be the only store selling the bonus CD-ROM w/the set so I pre-ordered it from there. I was pretty upset to find out that it wasn't there. I really can't afford to buy a whole nother set at the store to get the CD-ROM. So really, the complaint is to Best Buy, not HIT. I have nothing but thanks and praise to HIT for putting the first season on DVD.

So now go and get your own copy!

I bought the set on the day that it came out on. I haven't watched everything yet. Here are my reviews of the episodes I watched so far.

Beginnings: a good introduction to a good series. It's too bad that Junior Gorg only makes a cameo appearance and that the other gorgs don't appear in this introduction episode. five stars.

Thirty Minute Work Week: It is easy to tell that this was the first episode filmed because some of the characters look different compared to how they would look for most of the first season. Gobos hair looks noticible longer than it would for the remaining 16 episodes at the beginning of the first season. Traveling Matts flashback (with a cameo by Dave Goelz) is clever. I like the Working song, and the fact thta Wembly and the trash heap thought that you have to know how to start a fire to be a fireman. I wonder why the fraggles need to work thirty minutes a week. Do they even need money? five stars.

The Terrible Tunnel: This episode was amusing. I like the Doc and Sprocket sub-plot. The Storyteller is a funny character. four stars.

I want To Be You: When Red pretended to be Mokey, she sounded so much like mokey. I think Mokey would have sounded the same way if karen prell ended up performing Mokey. It's also funny that Boober thoguht he had a disease because of how his voice sounded. four stars.

The Challenge: Is Pa Gorg normally absent minded? And what's up with Gobo wearing a hat in that episode? The Dixie Wailing song was good. five stars.

Finger of Light: a good episode. It is cool watching the fraggles balance pickles on their noses. marlon is funny. four stars.

Catch The tail By the Tiger: A very good episode. Too bad we don't get to see a flashback to the post card that arrives at the end. And where the other Fraggles (besides Red) trying to avoid hearing a post card? five stars.

Don't Cry Over Spilt Milk: In the first episode, Doc said that he would eventually board up the hole in the wall, and in this episode he does. It is cool watching Gobo dance inside a basket or whatever it was that he was hiding inside. five stars.

The Minstrel: A classic episode featuring Jim henson as Cantus. I wonder what the show would have been like if Jim Henson had more characters (or if Frank Oz performed on the show). five stars.

Marooned: It is interesting seeing Boober and Red trapped in a cave-in. I was expecting the ceiling to fall and almost trap them. Five Stars.

Mokeys Funeral: I liekd Mokey tricking Junior Gorg and the fraggles. I didn't realize that the other fraggles disliked Mokeys poetry. four stars.

I'll post more reviews later.

First, a surprise about the CD-ROM--it's actually Mac-compatible. Wow. I even tried the game and it worked fine (though I wasn't very good at it--if you want to see semi-animated Fraggles falling in the water with a splash, this is the game for you).

As for the series itself (much more important). . .
I grew up in a house without cable, and since Fraggle Rock was on HBO, I had no way to see it--even though I knew it was on, and wanted badly to see this new show with Muppets from Jim Henson. I got to see part of one episode at someone else's house, I saw the short Fraggle bit in the Muppet Family Christmas, and I saw pictures of them in magazines and such--that was my total Fraggle exposure growing up.

When HIT released the first Fraggle DVD earlier this year I bought it, fully intending to like it and grateful for my chance to finally welcome another corner of the Henson universe into my life. (Yes, I know there were some VHS releases, but I never had any for one reason or another; and I still don't have cable, so if it's been in reruns I haven't seen them.)

I knew the box set was coming, so I didn't get any of the other individual Fraggle disks--so here I am watching Season 1 for the first time, taking it slow, letting the famed "Fraggley goodness" seep into my soul. I watched episodes 1-3 last night, revisiting what was on that first HIT DVD--and found with joy that they were even more fun the second time! Tonight I watched episodes 4-5, with a half-hour doing other stuff in between them (I can't appreciate shows properly when I watch too much at one time--I like to let each episode digest before moving on.)

Ah, basking in new delights of Muppet glory!

Okay, so I just bought it today, and...WOW!! I have not seen this show in years and years since it has been on Disney Channel when I was young so I don;t remember a whole lot about it, just the basics. I adore this show and everything it stands for. I mean, I always knew it was a unique program but before tonight I never realized how groundbreaking it was in children's medium. I have really only watched the interviews on the DVD so far. They talk about how it was created as a way to stop war. That goes along with everything I believe in when I do my theater. I always believe in using the art as a way to help change the world. And I believe that is what Jim Henson was going for in most of his projects, right? To make the world a better place. I am so grateful for this Fraggle Rock release. We probably need it now more than ever.

I don't want to spoil anything, but they have Karen and Dave talk about their characters and how beautiful the song was. Apparently when they were filming the scene, there were some people tearing up. They intermingle it with clips from the episode. It's really cool.

Firstly a huge !WOW! at the season one box set, there can be no denying that is fantastic - and i havent even put a disc in my machine yet. Literally just recieved it by post and absolutely love the packaging and the replica notebook.
HOWEVER ......
No bonus cd rom disc
Having read all the other posts its obviously because i ordered it online but living in the UK i didnt really have a choice about that!
The site i ordered it from did only list it as a 4 disc box set but i thought it was 3 discs of episodes (with the extras; interviews and doc, spread amongst these) and the bonus fourth disc would be the CD rom content.
Whilst i still cant wait to watch all the goodies again and again i WAS really looking forward to putting some Fragglish stuff on my PC.

Is there any way we can mail off for the disc (even from over here??)
Can we write or phone HIT? dont want to complain 'cause the box set is **** perfect other than this omission.
oops apologies i put the word for what beavers build and it got bleeped.

TMS was higher quality to start with.

Granted but even with that, it would've been nice to see a little cleanup.

I have watched a few more episodes and wanted to talk about what I thought.

You Can't Do That Without a Hat: I thoguth this would have been a different episode. I remember seeing an episode where early on Boober lost his hat while coming back to fraggle rock from the gorgs garden and talked about a time that Traveling Matt lost his hat (and a flashback was shown with him losing his hat). Does anybody know what episode that was? Anyway, this episode was still good. I liked how the doozer who got covered in boobers hat kept walking past people who were looking the other way and just barely didn't see him. five stars.

Let The Water Run: If nobody lived in the workshop, then I wonder how the pipe bangers would get water? three stars.

We Love You Wembly: it was cool seeing a non-ma gorg character performed by Cheryl Wagner. four stars.

The preachification of Convincing John: a great episode. One of the few that Jim Henson performed in. I do think it is weird that even though convincing john has his name in the title, he only appears in two scenes, and that's only to sing his song. five stars.

Yeah, it would have been nice if they'd taken the trouble to fix the dropout, but it's a time-consuming (and hence expensive) job.

Other than that, the picture looks exactly as I'd expected it to: a professional 80s NTSC recording.

I'm not sure if this was brought up already (forgive me if it has), but where was Kathy Mullen during the interviews on the dvd? Is she still living? Was she busy? It was just strange that she was the only principle performer not on there. Not even in archival interviews like they do with Jim Henson sometimes.

Wow! What a fantastic collection!

It would be really nice if we all took a few minutes to either write a brief letter or telephone HIT (or both) to thank them for taking the time and effort to produce such a superior product.

And, also, to encourage them to continue with Season 2!!

For a while Kathy and her husband were in Afghanistan (right, y'all?). This was quite a while back, but I dunno how long they were stayin'.

Well, if she's not in any new interviews, at least we have that bit of her in "Down at Fraggle Rock" where, ironically, she's the only principal fraggle-performer interviewed (albeit briefly).

Well Here it is, October. I kept having problems , money wise. And My Birthday sucked untill I got from my family a smile on my face.
I came home to see on the kitchen table a present. I opened it up and to my eyes it was the set. We watched each episode so far. and I liked it beter than the muppet show. Why?
1. it was not edited. it had every thing that I originaly first watched.
2. the bonus dvd was awsome.
3. it was not edited.
4 (every one) IT WAS NOT EDITED!!
in all I liked it cause my famliy thought of me and my love for the muppets. My daughter said she resemles Red a lot. and I looked like Boober.
so thats all I have to say. now excuse me fo a bit I have to wash my socks. (joke);)

I liked how they used a lot of juxtaposition in Season One, to tie together the different characters in the different worlds- in "The Thirty-Minute Work Week", the Trash Heap, Wembley, the Fraggle firemen, and Doc all utilize the "start a fire" joke. In "I Don't Care", the whole first scene is juxtaposition, each cutaway starting where the last one left off (smoke jets, monsters, 3 seconds, etc.), plus Doc & the Trash Heap both enjoying crossword puzzles. In "The Challenge", Doc & Sprocket play "Zombie Attack", in which flaming marshmallows are the alien zombies' weapon, meanwhile Pa Gorg tells Ma that her stories serve to fill Junior's head with, you guessed it, marshmallows. In "The Great Radish Famine", both the Doozers and Doc make mention of sweaters with lime green stripes.

These juxtapositions (which were utilized the most often by, you guessed it again, Jerry Juhl) served to strengthen the ties and commonalities between the different creatures in their different worlds, thus making tangible the central theme that peoples on this earth don't notice how alike they are.

It's that subtle, multi-layered approach that is a hallmark of all great writing, and that the Muppets need so badly to have again in order to regain their peak of quality.

Another ' Key ' peformer who is seldomely meantioned but I think was just as important as the others was Chrly Wagner ( The Voice of Ma Goarg ) I noticed she wasn't meantioned at all in a very long time probably 10 or more years. Does anyone know what happened to her or is she one of those people who just dissapears and you never heard anything about them again?

I bought "Fraggle Rock" for my daughter for Christmas. OK, OK... So I really bought it more for myself, but don't tell my wife that!

Anyway, I'm thrilled to see that my four-year-old youngling has taken to the series just like her old man. But, for me, seeing it again was like running into a childhood friend, and now I want more.

Should we march on HIT Entertainment now? (Yes, Fozzie, I've already emailed them.)

My only complaint really is that they could've put more work into restoration and digitization. I can forgive the dated chroma key effects because I understand the limitations they had back then, but it's a heck of a lot easier to clean up video now than it used to be.

I guess that eventually Brian and the rest of the Henson family will take a cue from George Lucas and they'll release a master set of all the seasons someday, knowing I'll buy it.

I found the box set one of the times that I was in Wal-Mart last year, and yes, I did get it. n.n

The first thing that I watched was the the bonus DVD. I enjoyed the documentary very much as well as the interviews. I got a kick out of the audition clips, btw. As for the episodes.... Well, I can't really put it into words.

As a UK man, we haven't got FRS1 here yet although I don't know if we ever will as I am not sure if all 96 episodes were aired on UK tv (with the different country segments) we do have the single DVD with 2 or 3 eps, one special 2 disc edition with the "Making of" documentary and one of the old cartoon (I have all 4).

However Amazon.co.uk has Season 1 on sale and I have a multi region DVD player. So I want to get it after Easter.
