1. Of course! I've managed to get ahold of some rare treasures from them. One of which was the old Fisher Price Sesame Street playset!

4. Being a southern boy, I love it! Well, I love the B&W episodes anyway.

Oh boy a classic sitcom themed survey!

1. Do you like I Love Lucy? Oh yes! One of my top five sitcoms of all time! All four stars were wonderful. A Fred Mertz avatar would be pretty cool to use for a few days, maybe I'll try that!
2. Do you like Leave it to Beaver? No. Never cared much for it. Don't hate it, but I'd only watch it if there was nothing else to watch. The characters seemed to lack emotion and just say their lines like robots. And when the beeve got older and had a deep voice the show further jumped the shark.
3. Do you like Bewitched? Yes quite a lot. Very entertaining and creative with good actors. I agree the first Darrin (York) was far better than Sargent. Yet, the Sargent ones were still well written and funny enough to want to view. Uncle Arthur (Paul Lynne) was hilarious. And I'm probably one of the few who liked Larry Tate (most people seem to be annoyed by him).
4. Do you like Green Acres? Do I like Green Acres???? Ha ha yes! The BEST show of all time! And redBoobergurl, glad to see you also find it hysterical!
5. Do you like All in the Family? Big time! Another one in my top five! (The only two in this survey that aren't are "Andy Griffith" and "The Honeymooners"). Like "Lucy", AITF had 4 great stars and superb writing. Anyone ever see "Archie Bunker's Place"? I recently bought season one on dvd of that show. It's not as funny as AITF, but with Archie Bunker there it's still good.
6. Do you like M*A*S*H? No. I don't hate it but I just never could get into it and rarely watched it. I know I'm in the minority there.
7. Do you like a sitcom from the 80's? Aol television has some older sitcoms you can watch online now. One of them is "Perfect Strangers". That's an 80's sitcom I enjoyed. I watched a few of them this past weekend on the computer. Balki's line, "Well of course it is, don't be rudicoolus" brought back memories! I also love the "Standing Tall" opening theme song of that show.
8. Do you like another sitcom from the 80's? Full House. Not a great show but appealed to me. And I think that's one of the few shows that got better as it went along. Oh and "The Wonder Years"! That has to be my favorite 80's sitcom (that would be classified as a sitcom even though there isn't a laugh track, right? It's certainly a comedy, anyway).
9. Do you like Seinfeld? No. But I never really saw it much. I think I've seen one episode all the way through, if that. I don't think there is a sitcom of the 90's or 0's that I am a fan of or have seen much of.
10. Do you like Everybody Loves Raymond? No. Based on someone's recommendation I did tune in to this once or twice. Didn't amuse me too much. But Brad Garrett is impressive with his voices.

Sitcom survey part 2 yay!

1. Do you like The Dick Van Dyke Show? Yes, good show. The three male stars (Dick Van Dyke, Morey Amsterdam, and Richard Deacon) were all funny. The child actor on who played Richie was pretty awful but they wisely gave him a very limited role. He often emerged from his room for about 30 seconds and then went right back to his room. Maybe he was on the internet a lot? ;)
2. Do you like...any other 50's sitcom. Dick Van Dyke was a 60's sitcom (debuted in 1961). Another 50's sitcom I liked (though not nearly as much as I Love Lucy and The Honeymooners) is Father Knows Best.
3. Do you like The Andy Griffith Show? Oh yeah! After Green Acres, this show is about as good as it gets! One characteristic my top five sitcoms have is that I can watch the episodes over and over and NEVER get tired of them at all. Mayberry is always a pleasure to visit!
4. Do you like I Dream of Jeannie? Just a fair show. Liked Bewitched far more.
5. Do you like Sanford and Son? Not too much. Redd Foxx was somewhat amusing but he was also rather annoying at the same time. The best part of the show to me was the opening theme music.
6. Do you like The Muppet Show? For sure! Superb entertainment! And great to have season one (and the other ones in the future) since I hadn't seen the show since back at the time. But as much as I love the muppets and jokes and songs and great human guests, I still love classic Sesame Street even better!
7. Do you like Cheers? No. The opening theme song is good. But I never saw what the big appeal was of this show. I did enjoy the Wade Boggs episode, though.
8. Do you like another 80's sitcom? In addition to the aforementioned Perfect Strangers, The Wonder Years, and Full House, I liked Family Matters. That might be considered more of a 90's show but it did debut in September 1989.
9. Do you like Friends? Never saw it and doubt I'd like it from what I've heard about it.
10. Do you like Fraiser? Ditto to the above sentence.

Note: The Bill Cosby Show (1969) season one is coming out on dvd this summer! I loved this show and haven't seen it since I saw it in reruns in the 80's. This is different from the famous (and highly inferior, in my opinion!) "Cosby Show" that debuted in 1984). I can't wait!

(1) Do you look at the keyboard or the screen when you type? Usually. If I'm not in a hurry I once in a while try to practice looking at the screen while typing, hoping to gradually get to a point where I can type without looking at the keyboard. But presently I am still pretty slow when I do that.
(2) Would you rather win a free vacation to Hawaii or New Zealand? Hawaii, but either would be very nice.
(3) Do you like the "Police Academy" movies? Well, I did pretty much back in the 80's but now consider them somewhat lame and trite. However, there are still a number of aspects that appeal to me, such as Winslow's sound effects and the theme music (although that music, catchy as it is, suffered from tremendous overplay!)
(4) Have you ever been to Disney World or Disney Land? If so, what's your favorite attraction there? Been to Disney World 5 times but not since 1985 when I was 18. My three faves were always The Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, and The Jungle Cruise. I noticed on youtube that you can see some of these rides in action. That's such a neat site. :)
(5) Do you like to ride rollercoasters? No, I'm afraid of heights. But Big Thunder Mountain at Disney World doesn't go too high so I had enough courage to ride that one. But high coasters I am intimidated by.
(6) Have you ever personally known anyone named Ernie, Bert, Grover, Kermit, Herbert, Harvey, Farley, Guy, or Oscar? I brought this up as an aside at another thread but ask this again here because people probably didn't see it there. I was just curious how many of these classic SS characters people have known someone with that has one of those names. We all know of people with names like that (eg. Bert Convy, Oscar Robertson) but did you know any in person? I can think of several Ernies and Herbert's (who go by Herb). But that's it. Surprisingly, I can't think offhand of ever knowing an Oscar, Harvey, or Bert.
(7) How do you best like your pizza? I enjoy most toppings on pizza, except for mushrooms, black olives, and anchovies. In the past I usually liked sausage and extra cheese the best, but now tend to prefer pepperoni and extra cheese.
(8) Do you ever watch the game show network? Around 2000-2002 before I cancelled my cable I did. It was great to see all the 70's game shows again that I watched as a child, like Tattletales, Match Game, Let's Make a Deal, and Family Feud (with Richard Dawson).
(9) What's your favorite day of the year? Christmas. The peaceful feeling of that day (and season) is so wonderful.

And I'm surprised to see how everyone, like me, hasn't really come across most of those classic SS muppet names. Guess that's probably what SS had in mind. They gave the human cast pretty common names like David and Susan, but wanted to give the muppets names that are real, but rather uncommon so as to add to their "uniqueness". Is that a word? Let me check again. Yes it is!
And also a little surprising at how few of you are familiar with the "Police Academy" movies. But I guess they had their big success from 1984-1989 (where a sequel was released every March) and then tapered off. Though another sequel is supposedly in the works this year.

Interestingly, I thought 5 was a significant downhill turn too. Especially lame gags like a frisbee carrying someone away. Plus, think of this, before you bash them: If anything is parodied on SnL, Madtv, Adult Swim...it's popular. They don't parody things that are unpopular. Meaning, if it's still popular enough to be made fun of: People remember them.

Note: The Bill Cosby Show (1969) season one is coming out on dvd this summer! I loved this show and haven't seen it since I saw it in reruns in the 80's. This is different from the famous (and highly inferior, in my opinion!) "Cosby Show" that debuted in 1984). I can't wait!
I see the official release date of this is now August 22nd.
Also, I was reading about this show on TV.com and found it interesting that in season 2 (aired on January 24, 1971) the episode of "The Bill Cosby Show" was called "The Sesame Street Rumble". Here's the brief description of the episode from TV.com :
"Chet (Bill Cosby) has a large TV antenna installed so he can watch the big Rams/Packers football game. Many teachers from the high school come over to see the game, but Chet's TV set goes out. Chet goes next door to try and borrow the neighbors TV set, but the boy at home refuses to let Chet borrow it, insisting that he wants to watch Sesame Street."
Neat that they put Sesame Street in the title. And that'd be neat if they showed some actual SS footage from that kid's television during the episode. Sounds like a real fun one anyway. I'm telling you, these "Bill Cosby Show" episodes from '69-'71 were really great fun. But to see the Sesame Street episode we'll probably have to wait till at least 2007.

Bloom County is an adult comic strip the came before the even more edgy spin-off comic strip about a pennyless, friendless, naughty (and I mean naughty) penguin named Opus. Bloom County supposedely had a bigger cast and Opus was just part of the ensemble.

I never did care for either comics.
