Here's a Muppet Show idea that I had actually had when I was four (and recorded on the other side of the book and tape "Two for the Show"), however, this time I actually developed it. I hope you enjoy it.

Late first season style

SPECIAL GUEST STAR: BILLY JOEL

OPENING THEME:
Fozzie joke: "My cousin is so popular that when she broke her leg skiing, it inspired a trend!"
Billy Joel: shown in Talk Spot set with Piggy, Fozzie, Gonzo, Scooter, Floyd, Animal, George, Mildred and Droop
Gonzo bit: knocks himself on the head with a sledgehammer

OPENING NUMBER: Billy sings "Piano Man" in a bar with Gonzo, Fozzie, Rowlf, Floyd, Zoot, Nigel, Droop, 'Sexy Muppet', an old man ("Brewster" from Valentine show, reinvented as The Guru for Sex & Violence pilot and TMS first season), a bartender, and a waitress

Waldorf: "Ah, wonderful. That Billy Joel is great. I tell you, I've seen many a good piano player in my day."
Statler: "In your day you could've seen Mozart at the royal court of Vienna! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ah."

BACKSTAGE: George the Janitor angles for a raise. When Kermit refuses, George threatens to go on strike. Kermit tells him that anybody can do what he does.

SWEDISH CHEF: tries to make a steak. The cow ends up booting him out of the window.

WAYNE & WANDA: In their gazebo set, Wayne sings "And This Is My Beloved" (from the musical Kismet) to Wanda. During the number, Wayne frequently faces away from Wanda. He becomes so wrapped up in his own singing that he doesn't notice that Behemoth (the big yellow monster from "I've Got You Under My Skin") is gobbling up Wanda. When he turns to see the monster in her place, he faints.

MUPPET NEWS: the Newsman interviews fisherman Carl Gruberman (Billy), who has caught an ocean liner.
Carl: "That bait I got really, really works!... Sort of."

BACKSTAGE: George has done a lot of extra work in hopes of getting a raise. Kermit explains to George that he doesn't have enough money in the budget to give him a raise, and besides which he'd have to make a greater contribution to earn one, something a little more special than what he currently does. He says this as Gonzo goes to the stage.
George: "And I suppose that includes doing some sort of weird act like Captain Blue Beak over there?"

GONZO THE GREAT: Plays "Dance of the Reed Flutes" on harmonica while painting a cow (not painting a picture of a cow, but painting the actual cow)

Waldorf: "Maybe he should have tried a different song."
Statler: "Like what?"
Waldorf: "How about "If Heifer I Would Leave You"? Heh! Heh! Heh!"
Statler: "I've seen sirloin steaks funnier than that!"

KOOZEBANE: Kermit interviews the Koozebanian Snurb (the singing yellow thing from "Hugga Wugga"- not his actual name, just one I made up) but he is busy trying to hide from Sclrap Flyapp. Kermit has to run from him too, and ends up hiding in a crater.

AT THE DANCE

UK SPOT: Rowlf plays Beethoven.

TALK SPOT: Billy meets some of his "big fans" (Thog, Sweetums, et al)

Waldorf: "Hey, would you be quiet down there?"
Statler: "Yeah, we're trying to sleep up here!"

BACKSTAGE: George has scrubbed and polished all the floors in an attempt to get Kermit to give him a raise. It's so slippery that no one can stand up, and soon Muppets are sliding all over the place.

SONG: Billy sings "She's Always a Woman" to Piggy. At the end of the number-
Piggy: "I don't know whether to kiss you or knock you senseless."

MUPPET LABS: Dr. Bunsen Honeydew invents Gazelle Repellant

BACKSTAGE: George has dried up the floor, and also fixed the dryer. It blows up in Hilda's face. While Hilda chases him, Kermit asks (yelling) if George has taken the liberty to fix anything else. At this point an overhead light fixture falls on Kermit.
George: "Yeah I also replaced that broken light fixture."
Kermit: "Eeeeaaaargh!!"

FOZZIE'S MONOLOGUE: Fozzie decides to let all of Statler and Waldorf's insults go in one ear and out the other
Statler: "That should be easy enough. It's not like there's anything up there stopping it!"
He's able to keep it up until Statler and Waldorf pull out the heavy artillery… by throwing things at him.
Waldorf: "That'll teach him not to come out here when he's BEAR-ly prepared! Heh! Heh! Heh!"
Statler throws a tomato at Waldorf.

SONG: Billy performs "Say Goodbye to Hollywood" with the Electric Mayhem.

CURTAIN: Kermit makes a deal with George: if he stops all the ingratiating (and more harm than good, actually) extra services, he'll give him his raise. George agrees.
George: "Mildred, let's celebrate! We're having dinner on me!"
Fozzie: "No, THIS is dinner on you!"
He dumps a plate of food on George.
Billy, Kermit, Piggy, Fozzie, Gonzo, Floyd, George and Mildred all gather round in front of the red curtain.

Waldorf: "This has really been an evening to remember."
Statler: "Why? You mean you actually liked the show?!"
Waldorf: "No, I mean I stapled your pants to the seat!"
(He leaves. Statler tries to move and can't.)
Statler: "Aaaaaaaahhh!!!"

I actually cheated a little bit. "She's Always a Woman" was off the album "The Stranger", which wasn't released until September 1977. The first season wrapped at the end of November, 1976. Not like that matters, considering that others have done this putting modern-day performers in the show. Just thought I'd make a note of that.

Oooh...Its all well and good, but Billy Joel not performing "We Didn't Start the Fire"????? This does not sit well with Cantus Rock...I don't care when the song was made, if Billy does a variety show, he had to do that song!! :)

I just wanted to bump this, my first ever outline, back up to the top to get comments on it, and also stake a claim on Billy Joel in TMS outlines (but not really, anyone can do a Billy Joel outline who wants to).

Excuse me, but don't you think that Dave should be making that call, and not you? After all, he was the one who wrote the outline; he would know best what he wants.

What Muppets appear in At the Dance?

Which muppets slide all over the place in this scene?

Who performed the following characters:

-Sexy Muppet
-the cow
-Behemoth
-the Koozbanian Snurb/"sunshine" alien
-Sclrap Flyapp/Hugga Wugga

I suppose Jerry Nelson would play Droop again and John Lovely would be Nigel again. Right?

Also, who appears in "At the Dance" and who performed them?

Do any of the other full boy monsters (Thig, Timmy, Splurge and the Mutations) meet Billy when he meets his "biggest fans", in addition to Sweetums and Thog?

The following Muppets who slide all over the place were Hilda, Gonzo, Boppity, and Droop.

Sexy Muppet- Eren Ozker
Cow- John Lovelady
Behemoth- Jim Henson
Snurb- Jerry Nelson
Sclrap Flyapp- Frank Oz

Actually John Lovelady would be Droop while Jim Henson would be Nigel again.

These Muppets appear in "At the Dance":

Dr. Teeth with Mildred, Scooter with Janice, Boppity with Sexy Muppet, a pig couple, and Herman with a Shouting Woman.

FYI, the only other two full-body monsters who meet Billy when he met his biggest fans include Thig and Splurge. Don't forget to add Boppity in that scene even though he was never a full-body puppet.

-Sexy Muppet: Eren
-the cow: Dave (just mooing sounds)
-Behemoth: voice of Richard Hunt (like in "Some Enchanted Evening")
-the Koozbanian Snurb/"sunshine" alien: Jerry
-Sclrap Flyapp/Hugga Wugga: Frank

I suppose Jerry Nelson would play Droop again and John Lovely would be Nigel again. Right?

Right.

Boy, it's been so long since I've even THOUGHT about this outline. I'll have to get back to you on that.

Timmy.

Perhaps you should add Boppity to the Talk Spot as well.

-Behemoth: voice of Richard Hunt (like in "Some Enchanted Evening")

Avtually, gorgon heap is the monster who was in Some Enchanted vening. Richard Hunt did perform Gorgon heap in that song, though (and he also performed behemoth in Under My Skin).

I don't know how I could have missed this outline before now, but it's wonderful! It is so excelent, in fact, that it is hard to believe that you came up with it at the age of four. Not that I am calling you a lier or anything, but it is truly remarkable. Tell me, was your original idea at age four as detailed as what you posted? Also, what was the tape you sead you recorded it on?

I know, I was referring to the fact that Richard performed both Wayne and the monster that ate him in that sketch, whereas here he'd perform Wayne and the monster eating Wanda.

Only had the idea OF a Muppet Show with Billy Joel, never actually detailed one. I tried to record it on the (purposefully) blank side of the Muppet Show boo & tape "Two for the Show", but attention deficit must've gotten the better of me. I couldn't remember the words to "Piano Man", nor could I decide anything else to go into it. Everything except for opening with "Piano Man" I came up with just a couple of years ago when I wrote this, my first outline.

Dr. Teeth with Mildred, Scooter with Janice, Boppity with Sexy Muppet, a pig couple, and Herman with a Shouting Woman.

A pig couple was played by Richard Hunt. Boppity was performed by John Lovelady while his partner was performed by Eren Ozker. Herman and the Shouting Woman were both performed by Jerry Nelson, while Scooter and Janice were manipulated by Dave Goelz, with Richard and Eren dubbing the voices for them.

Actually no.

Dave only has scripts for his Rex Harrison outline which he wrote with Travelling Matt and his Ed Wynn outline which turned out as a script as he was writing it.
As far as I know he has no immediate plans to expand any more of his outlines into scripts though if you ever decide you want to Dave I think that would be wonderful.
But only if you honestly want to my friend. :)

I'll give him some ideas for a Charro outline.

"It's The Muppet Show with tonight's guest star Charro!"

STYLE: Early Season One (circa Ruth Buzzi, Rita Moreno)

Fozzie: My pet elephant went to the car wash and he washes the car with its trunk! (SPECIAL: We can see the audience laugh at him.)
Charro: Shown in Talk Spot set with Sweetums.
Gonzo: "The Muppet Show" sign goes up in the air after Gonzo has beaten it.

Description:

Kermit gets jealous when Fozzie, Hilda, George, and Animal rave for Charro. In the end, Charro becomes jealous that she wants to be a frog. (Think the Peter Ustinov episode style.)

Opening Number: Floyd sings "Will It Go Round in Circles?" with the Electric Mayhem.
Vet's Hospital (featuring Animal as the patient)
Muppet News Flash: The Newsman reports on a male hippopotamus named Herbert escaping from the zoo.
Sketch: Charro as a banker with Miss Kitty as the bank robber.
At the Dance: Zoot with Janice, George with Mildred, Miss Piggy with a brown-haired pig, Snake Frackle with Sexy Muppet, and Animal with a Whatnot woman; dancing in the background would include Wayne with Wanda and Rowlf with a brunette dancer.
U.K. Spot: A blue Whatnot (similar to the one from "Pachalafaka" song) sings "Windy" with Boppity in drag with wings.
Conversation Panel: Kermit discusses "How do birds fly?" with Charro as Marcela Rodriguez, Miss Piggy, Brewster, and a whatnot.
Talking Houses:
House 2: My grandfather's not feeling well.
House 1: Sorry to hear it. What happened to him?
House 2: He's being condemned.
Talk Spot: Kermit attempts to talk to Charro, but Sweetums shows up
Wayne & Wanda would sing "In The Shade Of The Old Apple Tree" but the apples would start falling off the apple tree and onto Wayne nontheless.
Fozzie's Act: Impersonations of TV Stars
Closing Number: Charro sings "Touch Me in the Morning" with Janice, Piggy, and two female Whatnots as backup singers and Animal, Floyd, Zoot, Rowlf on piano, Boppity on guitar and Gloat on trumpet in the background.
Goodnights: Kermit, Charro, Miss Piggy, Fozzie, Animal, Hilda, George, and Wanda.

Note: Neither Gonzo nor Scooter should appear in this outline.

Hey, Dave, whaddya think about my ideas so far?

Hey TSF. I quite like your ideas and I'm sure Dave would agree that you have talent for fan fic writing inside you.

But don't you think you should have started a brand new thread for these ideas instead of putting them here in Dave's thread for his Billy Joel outline?
I don't mean to put you down, it just seems more proper to me.
Also instead of just giving Dave your ideas to work with why don't you consider having a go at doing something with them yourself? You could have more hidden talent than even you think.

do you have the script for this episode?

Here and there I've been doing a bit of work expanding the Jose Feliciano outline into a script. Also, since the Johnny Rivers episode has full backstage scenes, it wouldn't take much to turn that one into a script (however some of those backstage scenes need to be trimmed/re-written, as toward the end I feel I went overboard with Hortense's unkindness, to the point of ludicrousness & loss of credibility). I could conceivably turn the Flip Wilson one into a script, and the Ed Asner one is pretty detailed so I'm sure I could script that one. Someone once suggested that I expand the Christopher Lee outline into a script.

More than likely I'll just be putting up more outlines before any of the above occurs. Most likely candidate for script expansion is still the Jose Feliciano outline. Something about that one just works for me, maybe it's the whole idea of S & W in the wings.

There's also just something about the visuals in the first half of Season Three that I respond to, organically. It's that organic response that enables me to visualize new scenarios in line with these establishes visual styles, motifs, and tones, and spin outlines out of them.

And Dave's yammering finally came to an end.
