Just wanted to tell you that I found the coolest thing on a flee market today. An illegal Schleich set from East Germany.

The set has Piggy, Scooter, Gonzo, Sam Eagle and Statler, without any copyrights from Henson or Schleich on them, in the most APPALLING colours (Gonzo in pink, Scooter with black hair in a silver outfit - Sam is cool in silver, though), all on a piece of cardboard with an amateurish Muppet Show drawing in it. The PVC salesman told me that this set is what many PVC collectors are looking for.

Has anybody else heard of this set?

Yes, of course I bought it! It's one of the rarest things! Real PVC collectors are always looking for prototypes, illegal, "mutants" etc. So this was a real good find.

Ugh! The Kermit on the far left and the Fozzie on the far right are terrifying! :o

This is why I tend to avoid bootlegs. The molding is sloppy, and the paint jobs look pathetic. They offer nothing interresting outside of being bootlegs. Now if they were an odd Hong Kong bootleg and they're all bizarre looking super deformers (I've seen an Incredibles bootleg like that).

So the question is, is the plastic really cheap and greasy?

I have the Kermit on the far right front, my sister just gave it to me. Didn't think much of it

My uncle (who sells “bootleg” stuff at fairs) calls them “knock- offs”

It looks like a 5 year old painted it. of course, given the state of bootleg sweatshops, they very well could have. I bet you could cut your fingers up nasty on those sloppy hanging edges.

As far as I know they are Polish bootlegs ... the molds are actually not that bad, but the paintjobs are indeed nowhere. It's no use collecting them, there's paintschemes galore ...
