You all are very hardcore fans and this is a very thourough message board, so I do apologize if I am repeating common knowledge here.

I was watching my DVD of Garfield and Friends and one episode made a Muppet Babies reference (since they were both showing at around the same time, at the time). In this episode, Garfield and Nermal flush some "Evil Mutant Guppies" down the sewer and Garfield says they're being flushed down the river to who knows where. And that's how they end that episode.

But before the credits they show a short U.S. Acres (Orson's Farm) "Quickie" and in it, the Mutant Guppies pop out of the farm well and terrorize Orson and Wade and the animals run away. Then one of the Mutant Guppies looks at the other one and says, "Well this stinks, let's go and see if we can make guest appearances on Muppet Babies" (not a direct quote, but close enough). I thought that was pretty funny. Garfield and Friends and Muppet Babies were great Saturday morning cartoons!

OMG that's so cool! I always watched both those shows after school on Nickelodeon. I bought the Fraggle Rock DVD, and saw the Garfield one close by. Gonna hafta pick it up soon!

Cool find! ;)

There's actually two Garfield DVDs out now. One is called Garfield as Himself and has three of the prime time Garfield TV specials on it (Here Comes Garfield, Garfield on the Town, and Garfield Gets a Life). The other DVD is a 3 disc set of episodes from the Garfield and Friends TV Saturday morning cartoon. Both are good buys.

I really want to get this... but I'm wickedly broke... so tell me... do they have all the US Acres quickies and stuff not seen in syndication, or is it just the syndicated version in a boxed set. I'll get it reguardless, but I really want to know.

Klonoa
08-24-2004, 01:52 PM
Well I don't know what was taken out when it was in syndication, but they do have U.S. Acres "Quickies" on the DVD. Except they're not called U.S. Acres, they're called "Orson's Farm," which I think is what it was called outside the US.

A) The original "Friends are there.." theme was replaced by the third season "We're ready to party" song

B) Most of the shorts, including all US Acres and half the Garfields, and all but one of the "Screaming with Binky's"

I think there were other cuts, but I can't really think of them right now...

Klonoa

On the DVD, the "Friends are there..." song is still intact. As is the Garfield and US Acres short shorts. And there's one Screaming with Binky on the DVD, too. I'm not an expert, but I think these are the original unedited Saturday morning ones on the DVD with nothing cut out, if that helps.

That's funny, I didn't know it was called something different outside the U.S..

Have both of the DVD your talking about Klonoa and there a blast to watch. The DVD "Garfield and Friends" is the first and some of the second season. There all in order and when I watch it for the first time I had forgot the the first season had a different theme song. It hadn't rang a bell until the closing theme where Garfield's head is just a little out of reach of the credits and his eyes change from time to time kind of like the old wall clock that when the tail moves so do the eyes. Then I remembered. Oh this brings back so many memories. Oh I can't wait for the the second DVD of the speicals to come out. WOOOO!!!

Garfield and Friends DVD is very much worth it.

My next (planned) DVD purchases are vol. 2 of the Invader ZIM DVD and Wacky Races. ALF is on DVD, too huh? I'd like to get that one--provided it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to get!

I have a list on Amazon.com just to keep track of all the 80's cartoons coming out.

Garfield and Friends is def. well worth it. Everything is intact and volume 2 should be out on Dec. 7th which is a big DVD day {thank god WB decided to delay volume 2 of Batman: TAS and Superman}.

The show should be in it's entirty by Spring 2006.

Volume 3 is slated for Mayish in 2005, which means Volume 4 should hit christmas of 2005 and finally wrap up in May 2006.

Also a Garfield holiday dvd is coming out on 10.26 that has Garfield Halloween, thanksgiving and christmas. All 80's classics and all worth the mere 10 bucks the DVD will go for.

I'd love to see Disney release some of their old "Disney Afternoon" lineup on DVD as well. DuckTales was such a well-written show.

I've been eyeing that ALF DVD at Wal-Mart lately. I wonder if that's worth it. Garfield and Friends certainly was.

here comes Garfield is my favorite Garfield special. there's a song that plays during part of the scean where Garfield and Odie are in the pound. It's raing and cold and Garfield cuddles up to Odie. I can't for the life of me remember the words, but I do remember how hard I fought back the tears!

Yeah muppetsforever that is a sweet and heartfelt song. If I weren't so lazy I could go through the DVD and pick out the words to that song...but...I probably won't. Sorry.

I don't get Toon Disney or Boomerang! Ergh! Oh well, don't have much time for TV anyway.

wow, garfield and friends- that brings back memories of hours in front of the television... i actually remember that episode with the muppet babies reference- and remember thinking how cool it was that i watched both shows and got that refrence... god, i was a pathetic little kid. it's so refreshing to know there are other people who have an appreciation for the old time quality programming of that time. little kids don't realize how crappy the stuff is they're watching today..

Klonoa
09-13-2004, 09:30 AM
All the same, we watched some crappy shows when we were little, too. Go back and watch the old He-Man cartoon. Ugh. And as much as I love Pac-Man and the cartoon, it really wasn't that good. And then shows like Transformers, which I watched religously when I was little, was nothing more than 30 minute toy commercials. --Klonoa

To some extent that is true. There is always plenty of garbage floating around for everyone.

However there were also some cartoons that were pretty good.

CBS probably had the best lineup of Children's programming.

Muppet Babies, Pee-Wee's Playhouse, Garfield and Friends, Ninja Turtles {the first few seasons}.

But I mean there were other great shows on too ranging from Real Ghostbusters to Ducktales {not on Saturday's but still}.

You just don't see the budget's in the cartoons anymore. I mean as a whole Saturday mornings on networks have been dead for 10 years now.

I mean if you go from 1984 to 1994 you see some crap but you also can come up with a pretty impressive list of shows that started as well.

McFraggle
09-14-2004, 09:20 PM
I would definitely agree that the quality and budget is not put into it anymore. I mean I was raised on Hanna Barbera and the '80s cartoons you listed and those cartoons were much better (IMO) than today's are.

Oh yes the Heatcliff DVD's there are three of them, "Terror of the Neighborhood” “Fish Tales,” and then the Heathcliff movie wich is basicaly a bunch of reg ep's tied together by Heathcliff telling stories to his nephews.

I'm not found on how they say 9 episodes on the DVD's when it's not 9 full shows but rather 9 single cartoons. 7 are heathcliff and 2 are Catillac Cats cartoons.

But I do like how the DIC company has been put out many DVD's of thier shows. I haven't seen them all in stores (like the Littles) but i have all the ones I want for now, which is basicaly Heathcliff and the one Mairo Bros 3 one. some are at stores like Media Play others at at drug stores. I hope for more Mario and maybe even an All Dogs go to Heaven the Series DVD. I haven't seen the Inspector Gadget one though, only garbage boy.... i mean gadget boy.

I do think it'll happen eventually. I mean if you would have told me two years ago that we'd see the tv show explosion like we have, I wouldn't believe it.

But studios are starting to realize that people really like the concept of tv on dvd and it makes a lot of sense really. It gives people a chance to sit back and see fav. episodes and characters in more situations than just a movie and they take a while to go through. You can watch them in half-hour increments every night.

In many cases the shows have never looked better. You're essentially seeing your favorite shows in the best detail possible.

Just to let you guys know that Kermit the Frog is mentioned on the second season of Garfield and Friends. it's on disk three in the episode called "Flat Tired" the episode where garfield is too tired to do anything and the off screen director is "yelling" at him, and says he's going to find someone else to star in the cartoon but didn't know who to get? Odie then quickly pops up and jumps around. the director talking to himself says we'll need someone who can act, someone who musical and someone who is funny....mean time odie is vigeroulsy trying to do all of those things as the director says them...then the director says "I know! Get Kermit the Frog on the phone!!!" odie then frowns and the director says he was only kidding and odie takes on the role...with Garfield having to save him later still in his flat tired state. it was really funny!

I'm loving all this Garfield on DVD!!! It's really great to have the orginal opening! i always liked it better!! "Friends are there" is a song that is always stuck in my head!!! a little more then midway or at least the last episode on the second disk begings the old "Garfield and Friends ready to party theme" that has been used for years now on tv. i personaly loved the Friends are there theme and thought it was used till the end of season two, but i guess not? I some how miss it now....but well it's still all on season one and part of two! i hope season three it made!

"Friends are there.....To help you get started! to give you a push on your way! Friends are there to turn you around and get your....ok,ok i'll stop! i'll stop! :)

The song will forever be suck in my head! I love it in the cartoons when Jon Arbuckle or Orson pig or even Odie among other characters are wisilng or humming it! One time Bo the sheep was singing it saying it was a catchy song and he wondered where he had hear it from? LOL!

Hi Kathy, You have all three on one DVD right? Here Comes Garfield, Garfield On The Town & Garfield Gets A Life are on one disk called Garfield as himself, there is also a Hoilday set with Halloween,Thanksgiving and the Chirstmas speacials! Along with season's 1 and 2 on DVD. I hope for more Garfield on dvd!!

I personaly didn't care much for the new movie, it was "cute" but i don't really want to own it. Just the classic stuff! but i'm happy that the movie gave a nice the push for all this classic Garfield stuff! this is happing pretty fast too! It took time but it worked for Rocky and Bullwinkle yet it looks like the fat ablert movie is quickly doing the same! I heard about a Aviln and the chimpmunks CGI/live action movie which kinda disgusts me but if it gets the Chimpmunk Adventure movie on DVD i'll be happy!!! It's also cool about Opus the penguin "Bloom Country" movie which would be sweet if the Opus Christmas speacil "A Wish for Wings That Work" came to DVD!

Bring it back to Garfield my favortie line in Garfield gets a life is when Jon says "I was so shy, once i almost starved to death because i didn't tell my father i was hunger!" it a great quote to say amongs meeting people for the first time as well as friends.:D

Where can you find "The Raccoons" volume one? I am assuming you are referring to the Raccoons cartoon that ran on the Disney Channel for a few years in the 80'S? :excited:

WOW! Another Garfield special trilogy on DVD. All they need is one more, with Garfield's Feline fantasies, Garfield's 9 Lives and babes and Bulletts (the only one I haven't seen). I gotta start getting some money to pick these up.... I have a bunch on tape, but they are all old and worn.

Yes the one and only! The Raccoons, which aird on other Canadain stations and i think fox before that, it was on the disney channle in the early 90's as well. I heard a rumor that the ABC family channle might pick up the show, but that's not a fact. I hope it does though. ut i do own every ep and the 4 sp's, plus these new DVD's. I think Amizon.com has them, but i got mine of ebay and i just got the second set a few weeks ago off ebay as well, i should be expecting that sometime this week.

Yes i'm also loving all this Garfield! some day you'll be able to own every Garfield Special and cartoon ep!!! :) AND it would be very nice if cartoon all stars to the rescue came to dvd as well!

Yea for the Raccoons! I thought I was the only one who liked that show! I will look on Amazon for it!

Garfield also rocks.

I think Cartoon All Stars to the Rescue would be great on DVD. I remember getting it from the video store in the 80's when I was like 6. I thought it was so cool that all the cartoon characters were together.

I wish there was an All 80's channel that played nothing but all the good old cartoons and Muppet stuff from the 80's. It would be awesome! I actually wrote a college paper on why there needs to be one and my professor said I put forth a very convincing argument! Oh well. Someday. :)

Well as the last generation that grew up with Saturday and afternoon cartoons it probably won't be till our generation starts becoming full-fledged parents.

Yeah I bought Garfield's Travle Adventures the other day too. It's great! the slip inside didn't advertise more Garfield dvd's on the way like the past ones have, but rather for other dvd's instead. I'm hopeing for another Garfield speical dvd with the last 3 ones on it.

TVshowsondvd.com mentioned it already it's called Feline Fantasies and should have the last three on them. If I remember correctly it comes out in the Summer, after Volume 3 of Garfield and Friends. I wanna say a May release date but you might wanna check that.
