Ok,hiya.I just came back from seeing The Village, with my roomie Sean & boy what a waste of time & money. Not going to spoil it for those who want to see it.Just telling you ahead of time,it's one of the worst films.Anyone else at MC going to see it? Let me know what you think.

Actually, I really liked it. I thought it was very good...it had a lot more human interest than M. Night's other movies. It's totally different from "The Sixth Sense" and "Signs", and that's probably why you didn't like it. You were probably expecting something like one of those movies.

I hope to see it eventually. It's been getting mixed reviews, but is it as unsatisfying as the "Unbreakable" ending and film? I liked the film but the ending didn't feel right.

I've been really looking forward to it. The fact that it's a period piece intrigues me, and I love Shyamalan's films. Hopefully I won't be too disappointed...

Nope, that isn't my reason.I'll post my reasons later in the week, once everyone has had a chance to see it.Like I said, not into naming spoilers, especially when others still want to see it.I didn't enjoy Signs or Unbreakable either,Sixth Sense was ok.I enjoyed certain parts of those movies, not as a whole. I usually watch indie films, foreign and classics(The Godfather,Freaks,Metropolis,Young Frankenstein); all of these,I'm still in awe of. If you want me to email you personally,as to why I disliked The Village,I will.Just my opinions, and I'm sticking to them.If you liked The Village, your entitled to do so too; just like I'm entitled to not.:smirk: I was very disappointed in The Village's ending McFraggle,it just ended. No real finish to it.That's all I'm giving away.

Yes, I agree with you there. It needed more at the end--it felt like it should be longer! But I feel it was an overall quality film.

Saw it last night and loved it! Sorry you didn't like it! :)

Sometimes I prefer an ending like that, that just leaves you a tiny bit hangin. It urks me just enough, but I realize that was the intention, and love it even more!

I didn't realize that The Village was rated R. That makes me a bit nervous, particularly since it's a thriller. I don't want to be scared out of my wits...

Well, yeah, that's one problem with Shyamalan movies once they've been around a while. My parents saw "The Sixth Sense" in February of 2000 and couldn't believe nobody spoiled the ending for them.

Hm, I just checked IMDB and it *does* say PG-13. I'm confused. I think it was Hot Ticket that had it as rated R.

I read the spoilers online, and I can see why people have problems with it.

Yeah...but the characters in the movie made me enjoy it anyway.

This movie left a sour taste in my mouth, if felt like i've just been suckered out of $8.00 of my money. The acting was great, the story was good up until the twist, and than from there it all went downhill. I recommend this flick worthy of a rental, nothing more.

Wow, I cant believe this movie has been as dissed as it has in this thread! I really liked it, however, I agree that it wasnt as good as Signs or 6th sense, but it was a lot better then unbreakable! The problem is that when a director is good, the audience raises the bar and expects absolute greatness. when it falls short of your expectation, its dissapointing. The movie was a lot better then some of the other things I have seen recently! See it with an open mind! or better yet, go with the expectation that it will be a mary kate and ashley movie! then it will win the oscar!

I agree. I had very, very high expectations for this movie because the trailers wre awesome, and I liked alot of his previous work, ala Sixth Sense so I was kind of disappointed it this film. I wouldn't say it was horrible, just wasn't what I expected.

I agree with smeagol4prez, the previews made it out to be this wonderful film and I was excited to go see it and when it let out the "twist" I was soooo disappointed in it. I felt that the trailers were misleading as to the storyline.

I would wait for it to come out on video or either see it during the cheaper prices at the movies.

But everyone likes different things....that's why they made chocolate ice cream!!!

I think that Shymalan needs to move into other directions (film-wise) so that everyone doesn't expect a twist everytime they go to see his movies. This would probably lower our expectations.

Yeah, I think he may be at the point where he's trained his audience too well. There's only so far you can go in coming up with a very surprising but utterly believable ending.

After a second viewing of "The Village" I have a lot to say...and it's all in defense of this wonderful film!
I admit, the first time I watched it I was somewhat dissapointed. I was expecting something that would scare me...and that way the trailers made the film out to be, it appeared it would be that way. The marketing for this film was it's only major flaw...and that's probably not even M. Night Shyamalan's doing.
The trailers and TV spots were made to attract an audience that wants to get scared by the film. The truth is, it isn't that type of movie. It's a drama, not a scary movie. Shyamalan has broken away from his previous stereotype from "The Sixth Sense" and "Signs" and done a down-to-earth drama.
Basically, the marketing made this movie out to be about the 'creatures' and the marks on the doors. Pretty much all of the creepy stuff...the truth is, it's about the characters. And the characters were perhaps the best I've seen in an original film (not based on something). Anyway, "The Village" is definitely Shyamalan's best work yet. It isn't like "The Sixth Sense" or "Signs" at all...it doesn't scare you. But it is a lot more human, and that will make this film last.
