Hey Oliver,Guess What else I just found so far,More Description about this DVD!
It says:Get ready for a salute to everyone's favorite blue-furred Muppet,as the "Sesame Street" crew looks back on Grover's most memorable appearances as superhero, waiter, singing telegram delivery "person" and more.
What do you think about this?
Oliver
07-27-2004, 10:01 AM
A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!
I can't wait, I just hope the skits aren't edited to revolve around some dumb storyline... If this disc actually does feature classic singing telegram and Grover the waiter, Super Grover, etc. skits, unedited in complete and original form, I'm all over this!!

Hey Oliver,8 More Days Left!!!
I Found More Description About This Grover DVD.It Says:The loveable, and often unheralded,Sesame Street character Grover gets his own release, full of loveable adventures with the endearing character.Numerous clips from the show are featured, compiling the best moments, most of which involve his escapades as a waiter in a restaurant.
What do you just think of this Oliver??

I am a little deturbed about the 40 min running time, but this sounds like a great DVD. I've held out on a lot of SS DVDs, as they are pricey and they haven't much more than a remasetered vhs, but this and the "What's the Name of that Song" disks look pretty darn sweet to me!

The one where Charlie's is a Mexican restaurant and he goes "Arriba!" CRASH! He is too funny! I'll have to make a puppet of him from the Blue boy pattern to celebrate. Another classic sketch is when he rhymes to remember the orders! I do not remember either, but I hope we see those on the DVD!

Tim Kelly,What would you like to see? Anybody?
Well, I managed to glance at a VHS copy that was lying around at Suncoast (they hadn't put it out yet, but it was on top of a pile of VHS tapes). The text mentioned something about Grover teaching Elmo how to deliver a singing telegram, and the four pictures were of Grover as a wig salesman, a bunch of Muppets sitting at the ceremony, Super Grover in a phone booth, and Grover getting an award (again, at the ceremony). The thing that surprised me was that Frank Oz wasn't listed as a performer.
Anyway, what I'd *like* to see are "Two 'G' Sounds" and "I Stand Up Straight and Tall" from the alphabet album, anything that shows how Grover used to torture Kermit (screaming "Hey, Froggy Babyyy" and then running up and slapping him on the back), and the complete version of "Monster in the Mirror" with all the celebrities singing along.

From Barnes & Noble
He's energetic, hardworking, and happy. He likes hugs, and he's nice to talk to. He is Grover, and at long last he joins the ranks of Big Bird, Elmo, Cookie Monster, the Count, and Bert and Ernie as the star of his very first direct-to-video special. Join the cast of Sesame Street as they gather at the Flyers' Club for a well-deserved Roost (as opposed to a roast) of the furry blue monster. Clips recall some of Grover's finest moments in sketches and song, including his derring-do as Super Grover, his starring role in "The King & I" (in which his costar is the actual letter "I"), and the hilarious recurring sketches in which waiter Grover serves up frustration to an unfortunate customer. Lena Horne sings and film critic Roger Ebert offers a "thumbs up" cameo. It's high time Grover's invaluable contributions to Sesame Street were recognized. Donald Liebenson

I just watched it last night and this morning and it is AWESOME! No waiter sketches, but that was partly because Grover and Fat Blue were fighting it out again at the party! Also, Super Grover had a HUGE role! 2 sketches and the Journey of SuperGrover to the Flyer's Club Roost! Big Bird was too funny! He said, "Never say 'roast' near a chicken!" and Oscar the Grouch started saying "Roast" to the chicken! What great sketches were on there, too! Lena Horne and Grover's "How Do You Do" song, Grover as the wig salesman, Grover and Elmo with singing telegrams! Great fun! Even "Over, Around, and Through" (Grover version) was funny! Grover was trying to make the audience understand these things and he didn't think we understood it, and at the end, he faints! Cute! The hugs and kisses montage sketch was good, just made me want to get a Grover of my own by Gund!

Grover parlays 'Street' cred into DVD gig
By Thomas K. Arnold, Special for USA TODAY
Sesame Street's Grover may not be aware he appears on TV, but the media-savvy Muppet does know who Fahrenheit 9/11 filmmaker Michael Moore is. We caught up with Grover as his new DVD, A Celebration of Me, Grover (Sony Wonder, $13), arrives in stores, marking the 35th season of the children's TV show.
He's come a long way from waiting tables on 'Sesame Street': Grover now has his own DVD.
Sony Wonder
Celebration looks back on some of Grover's most memorable moments, with fellow cast members Big Bird, Elmo and the Cookie Monster reminiscing about their furry blue friend and his famous work ethic. Grover has been a waiter, a disco dancer, a lawman, an elevator operator, a taxi driver, even a wig salesman.
Grover is not always very good at what he does, but his work ethic is admirable. It's one of the most important lessons he teaches kids.
When we call Grover's number, a woman named Alicia picks up the phone. She patches in Grover, who sometimes relies on Frank Oz to express himself.
Q: So, you have a personal assistant?
A: Are you talking about Elmo? Oh, her. Well, you know, I am a busy guy, and it's very hard for me to keep track of my schedule sometimes, so I have to hire people on to help with that.
Q: You've had a lot of jobs over the years, Grover.
A: I work through a temp agency called Grover's Temps. It's my own agency. In fact, I'm the sole proprietor and employee.
Q: Which of your many jobs did you like the best?
A: I worked as a waiter, a hot dog vendor and a traveling sales monster, but I think my very favorite was being a stenographer.
Q: Why did you like that?
A: It's so exciting — you can't believe how exciting — and you learn so much. Did you know you have to know how to read and write?
Q: You don't say.
A: Yes, once I learned that, it got really fun. At first I just drew pictures, but that didn't really cut it.
Q: What job haven't you done that you might like to try?
A: Actually, I think I would love to go into television. I have things I want to say.
Q: Like what?
A: I think I would love to teach little children about their ABCs and 123s and how important it is to be nice to one another and help each other.
Q: Kids are looking forward to your new movie.
A: I have a new movie? Really? Michael Moore didn't make it, did he?
Q: No, no. It's a DVD called A Celebration of Me, Grover, with all your friends from Sesame Streetsaying what a great guy you are and remembering all the jobs you've done. It's all about you.
A: That happens to one of my favorite subjects. I'm very proud of myself. I'm proud of my blue fur; I'm proud of the way I can say the alphabet and the way that I can run near and very far away. I am pretty much proud of everything about myself — and I think everybody should be that way.
Q: Is there one pearl of wisdom you'd like to tell the children of the world?
A: It's important to listen to each other, to help each other and to care for each other — and to brush your teeth.

Last Thursday, (2 days after it came out) I really REALLY wanted to get the "Celebration of Me" DVD. So I went to Target. They did not have it at all! Then Wal-Mart. They only had it on VHS. So I bought it anyway.
I was really disappointed that there weren't any classic waiter skits. But otherwise, it was entertaining. I'm glad there was some old stuff on it. I love "How do you do?" with Lena Horne, and "Alphabet Fever." I hadn't seen that stuff in years!
Anyway, I'm glad I got it, but not too bummed about not getting it on DVD.

(9)Elephant in the Phone Booth

(6) is probably a montage of Super Grover segments.
ceecee
09-08-2004, 11:19 AM
Yep, "Grover Flies..and Lands" is a montage of Super Grover's bad landings.
"Elephant in the Phone Booth" has to do with Grover having to change into Super Grover in a phone booth. But there is an elephant stuck in the phone booth, so Grover tries to help. (He's trying to get to the Roast/Roost on time)

09-08-2004, 12:11 PM
Is "Alphabet Fever" a montage of Grover's best dancing segments, or is it one in particular?
Dantecat
09-08-2004, 10:50 PM
No MuppetDude,I Think It's Just The One In Particular,It's Called The ABC Disco With Grover Disco Dancing!!!
MuppetDude
09-09-2004, 11:12 AM
 One of my favorites. But one of the pictures that another forum member gave us was one of Grover dancing in "Rappin' Alphabet". Is this part of a montage?
Okay, enough questions from me; I've got to see this tape!
Okay, one more question, and it's more of everyone else's opinion; do you think that the "Grover Celebration" special is more like a "Best of Kermit" video, meaning that it's got plenty of classic moments, or like "Best of Ernie and Bert", where some of the clips may not be "classics" or well-known?
ceecee
09-09-2004, 02:32 PM
"Alphabet Fever" is indeed Grover at the disco. (A spoof on "Saturday Night Fever") There isn't any part with rapping.
I would say this video is mostly new filler material with a few really good classics. With all the terrific Grover material out there, it's a bummer that more is not included on this "celebration."

Speaking Of Grover's Jobs,Does Anybody Just Remember A Very Very Rare Skit Where Grover Tries To Get A Job As A Lifeguard?? It Was From The 1980's But The Last Time They Ever Aired It Was In 1996 Or 1997! Noggin Never Aired That Skit For Sure.

I remember that one. Thats where he comes into a office to ask about the job and he has a summer type of hat, sun glasses and some sunblock on his nose. That was also another one of my favorites.
One I remember about is the one where Grover is eitehr a waiter or something and he's going through doors that say "in" and "out" and he keeps getting hit by the monster going through the doors. Does anyone remember that one?

That was a disco number from 1979, where a green monster had trouble understanding what everyone was doing (i.e. dancing in and out the doors).
Grover did demonstrate "in" and "out" using an elevator.

I got the CD last saturday at Walmart. The Grover CD. Its cool but most of the songs are on most other LPs, CDs and Cassettes.
Frist song is from the DVD. As in "Grover's Work Song" which is when Big Bird, Elmo, Zoe, Erine and Bert sing the song.
3rd song is the "Over, Under, Around and Through but it's the DVD version so you don't hear about watching the record going around. See what I mean?
5th song is "How do you do?" which is the DVD version w/ Bert and Ernie say a couple of things just like the DVD has then it goes to the song.
Last song is the same as the DVD version just in CD version. "Proud of Me"

I just bought this DVD today and i loved it. It did me reall good to see Fat Blue agine its been some time since i saw him. Which brings me to a point that i find very interesting. Jerry Nelson did a wonderfull job as Fat Blue i thought it was really sweet to hear the nice things he had to say about Grover. I think SS is trying to give Jerry a kind of sending off by trying to bring some of his old muppets back. I'm preety sure we will see sherlock Hemlock very soon. This is also to try and find somone to take his place when he is 100% gone.
Now on to Erick i think he is doing a fine job as Grover but his Bert was way way off. Bert seemed to kind of be on a different page then everyone else to me in this i dont know. I think Ernie and Bert as a couple have really fallen apart i think Steve and Erick need to spend more friend time togher to help this. But Erick's Grover is dead on.

Are any full sketches included or is this compilation mostly made up of montages from classic skits?
It would be nice to see some 2-disc sets with complete skecthes included. They could go through all the main characters and than offer discs for assorted character sketches like the various classic monsters and oldschool characters like Forgetful Jones and Don Music, etc. and even issue discs to cover all the song segments with cartoons tossed in the mix between skits. I'm also dying to see Teeny Little Super Guy finally make his DVD debut! :zany:

I think that the clip montages in this video were done better than the ones in the best of kermit on sesame street. in that one, all of the clips have their audio on, and can be confusing to people who don't know the sketches well. In the first clip montages, everybody sings during the clips, so we only see visuals and are not as curious about the skits as we are when watching the best of kermit. in the supergrover montage, we only see grover crash landing. nothing confusing about that. in the last one, we do hear what's going on, but most of the clips don't really have much to do with what the skits are about.
anyway, most of the skits were great. there were some that I hadn't even heard of before, like the one where grover was a wig salesman. I do wish that the full monsterpiece theatre segment was there (and not just the grover parts), and I would have rather seen "chariots of fur" or "the taming of the shoe" instead of "the king and i". I would have also rather seen grovers "near and far" skit instead of "over, under, around and through", which was already availible on the video "play-along games and songs". Since the abc disco skit was also already availible on video (in "dance along"), I would have preferred to have seen the 'rappin' alphabet" song instead (although I do like abc disco). i would have also rather seen the version of "proud of me" that was done on the show, instead of an all-new version.
Since fat blue complained about grover always making things go wrong wherever he goes, there should have been more fat blue skits (the two complete ones included on the video both took place at fat blues home). ones like "grover the taxi driver", "grove rthe waiter: hamburger" and "grover the consessionist" would have been nice. Considering that sesame workshop was allowed to include two very brief kermit clips, there should have been some full kermit and grover skits, like where they demonstrate heavy and light, or where grover gives kermit ears. some complete global grover skits should have been included.
of the grover songs that have already been released on video, i think that Monster in The Mirror (the version with all the celebrities, which hasn't been availible on video) and Fuzzy And Blue (and orange) should have been on there. During cookie monsters introduction, he said that one reason he liked grover was because they are both furry blue monsters. This line should have been on the album version, as an introduction to the song.
I think that prarie dawn, herry monster and herbert birdsfoot should have been at the ceremony as well.
