This issue has been up before.
I think we agreed that there just isn't enough material to make an all muppet channel. in this case, there would only be lot's of reruns, and people would stop buying the dvd's and videos.

Alicia,

There was a channel somewhere called 'The Kermit Channel' but it went off air.

Basically there probably isn't enough public interest for a Henson TV Channel, they don't have the money or right owners right now, and there probably is limited matierial that could actually feasilbly be run all the time.

Thanks. I guess I'm just a little optimistic. I'd gladly give up the dumb cartoon network for a little Muppets once in while!

Thats not to say we'll never see it - with Video on Demand, and in the future, On Demand TV Channels starting up on the net - you could well see 'Muppet TV' at somepoint, just not yet !

while i agree that a Muppet Channel would be great, i have to find fault with calling Cartoon Network "dumb". they have some of the best original programming out there (Dexter's Lab, Powerpuff Girls, Space Ghost C2C). sure, they show a lot of re-runs, but they're adding more new things every season. just look at what's coming out this fall, new He-Man, new Transformers, and more that i can't recall right now. they've done well for being owned by Turner.

I am not a fan of Cartoon Network, sorry I offended u. Great material is always different in the minds of differnet people. im soory i said that!

not offended, per se...just pointing out the irony in calling what is probably the one network that doesn't treat children as stupid "dumb"

UUUUUum theres new He-Man and Transformers coming out ? I never knew that. Oh i hope they keep it close to the original and don't revamp it that much - these are properties not to be messed with !

The Kermit Channel was in Asia, I think it is Hallmark now tho.

It wasnt Non Stop Muppets anyway, Just the same kind of Line Up as Hallmark or Odyssey.

I think it spelt that wrong.

See ya

You just pointed out examples of why I dont watch it. I think all these shows, and like Johnny Bravo, cow and chicken...etc they all seem like a throwback to bad animation and quick ADD strobe light cheapism. It amazes me how truly edgy stuff like Invader zim gets cancelled, when cheap fodder like most of Cartoon Network's programming seems to command such ratings. However, I do respect the channel for their anime content, as they seem to be the only channel with cajones to show the good stuff. As well as getting Transformers.

We need a 24 hour anime channel and a 24 hour jhc channel.
oh how such would be sweet.

grail
07-31-2002, 03:34 PM
do you get the action channel? they have a tendency to show some pretty decent anime during the weekend. a lot of blue seed, and other things that are a bit more random. all in all, good stuff.

i agree about invader zim, but i think nick just didn't know what to do with it. had it ended up on cartoon network, it'd probaly be bigger than the powerpuff girls.

i also have to disagree about "ADD strobe light cheapism". to some extent you have a point, but some of the writing is so good it's scary. i mean, i've found Monty Python references in PPG. dexter is one of those cartoons that is guarenteed to make me laugh no matter how many times i've seen the same ep (if you don't believe me, watch the one where dexter gets zapped into the video game a couple hundred times...when they show "master computer", it's still hilarious). johnny bravo is what i watch when i feel like watching the high-school jock/moron get what's coming too him. and Space Ghost C2C is about the most brilliant thing i've ever seen. and let's not forget, this is the network that brings us Samarai Jack and Justice League (and soon Teen Titans), and has the pure SACK required to run things like, well, their entire Adult Swim project (they've even picked up shows that were "too much" for networks like the Oblongs, deuting this weekend).

I have to agree with the Cormeister - i can't stand all this new fangled animation, either on Nick or Cartoon Network. I love the old classics and the 80's stuff, so i'm glad retro is coming back in !

Yes, I think the '80s was the high point of children's entertainment, especially on Saturday mornings. I literally think no other decade even compares.

Though I do have to say, I've seen "SpongeBog SquarePants", and it is cute! Lol! :D

Rock on Beaker u have said it to a tee! Cow and Chicken as opposed to Muppet Babies. You take your pick. As for me, Muppet babies will win out on a stupid cartoon (yes, stupid) about two farm animals with fake from-where accents.

the problem is that it sounds like you are basing your opinion of a whole network on cow and chicken. yes the show is horrible, i agree with that...but Cartoon Network itself has some really GREAT programming

Luke

but most of the good stuff on the channel (at least here) IS the classic stuff - we are right in the middle of Scooby week ! LOL !

i find it discusting on what happend to cartoonnetwork..."Adult Swim" i can't bleive they did that, the reason for that channle was to play cartoons for kids 24 hours a day. There are shows that are more violent now like the power puff girls, but the laguage and some topics on "Adult Swim" are filth for that channle, now if they made a channle called Adult Swim or whatever they could play that stuff 24 a day that wouldn't interfear with the that network. kids could still watch it no matter what but it would be on a seprate channle that could be blocked out if a parent choses to.

i have watched "Adult Swim" and founds"some" stuff funny, but not for a kids channle, they should make there own.

Zack)Rowlf the, thank goodness for Boomarage and Toon Disney, althought parts of TD are going down hill now, with the delation of TaleSpin and littlering of the network with Doug and Pepper Ann....Dog.

You are totally right Zack. A kids channel should be just that. And even some of the cartoons formatted for the children are violent and serve no intent. Whatever happened to the Care Bears? The Ones who taught you to be better ppl, not flying Buttercups for petes sake!

Hey Zack TaleSpin IS still on Toon Disney but ONLY on the weekends real early in the monin! Bonkers is on the weekend too! I just wish Toon Disney would have keepet Snookums and Meet, Rew Toonage, TaleSpin,Bonkers,Gummi Bears, Wuzzles and Marsupalomie(? I don't really remember how to spell that lol). I just wish theyed (Disney) would get rid of them other cartoons that they even didn't MAKE like The littles, Super Dave, Wish Kid, Care bears (even tho I like them!), Wizard of Oz (the cartoon) and Blazing Dragions!!!

From what I heard on LaughingPlace.com they sayed THIS Fall Toon Disnet are adding NEW (Disney) Cartoon's on like...

The House Of Mouse (getting Off ABC and airing on Toon Disney with NEW shows), Mary Kate & Asley (the cartoon with NEW shows made too), Buzz Lightyear (the cartoon), Legend of Tarzan, The Weekenders, Sabrania the Teenahe witch cartoon's, and I think a few others that I don't remember but IF I here more i let you know there Zack! But MY FAVORITE Show on Toon Disney is Teacher's Pet , Oh and THIS fall on ABC it won't be called "Disney's One saturday Morning" but soon to be called "ABC Kids" and half of the Disney cartoons that were on One saturday Morning will go to Toon Disney and One Saturday Morning will have Lizzy , Even Stevns, and NOW Proud Family, Kim Passibal (i LOVE this show!) and 2 others that I don't remember.... bye for know....lol

Thanks Steve, if i was still the early bird i was i would probaly know that TaleSpin was on that early, but my built in alarm clock broke and i'll been the late night bat latey so i havebeen sleeping a little later, only if i was young again i could do BOTH! yeah, that's heathly...

well Care Bears was on the Disney Channle back a few years, not that it's a "disney made show" but fraggle rock and the Raccoons also were on the Disney Channle back a few years and they are not Disney made as well, so Care Bears have has a little history with Disney.

Toon Disney also has Sonic the Heghog, the first cartoon made of him, i liked the second cartoon of sonic the best, that was played on ABC back a few years ago. there is also a third Sonic cartoon but it really didn't stick to the first story and video game so i didn't like it that much, but it had Knuckles!

Bonkers not on Toon Disney?!?! since when? it was on the other day! i think they play the wuzzle's, snookims and meat, Raw Toonage, and marsupalimi on late at nigth or early early early morning, maybe they don't anymore.

House of Mouse is great! and i knew sooner or later it would come to Toon Disney, they will play it a lot too, right now there is to much doug and pepper on!

Mary Kate & Asley (the cartoon with NEW shows made too), Buzz Lightyear (the cartoon), Legend of Tarzan, The Weekenders, Sabrania the Teenahe witch cartoon's,

ahh, great! MORE littler for that channle.....well i guess Tarzan belongs there, as well as buzz lightyear, but full house twins getting there own cartoon show is revolting....

might i add i dislike cartoons about teenages, dogs, witches, super hero's, aliens and kids going to school...

look at this list!
Doug boy that bases him at school!
pepper ann girl that bases about her going to school!
Sabrania witch that bases about going to school!
Teacthers pet DOG that bases about going to school!
Recess and the Weekenders young kids that bases them being in school or tying to get way from school!
the list gose on!
i can't even think of the name of the alien that goes to school too and i don't care, even those new spanish super heros cartoon!

KIDS STAY IN SCHOOL!!!!!!! but i don't think every cartoon has to be about kids...or something going to school, it's sicking that it's on a weekend day at that!

i like cartoons about animals going on adventures, like the Raccoons, DuckTales, TaleSpin, and the Super Mairo Bros...well that would be about plumers going on adventures but you get the driff;-)

Hey Zack!, Yeah Bonkers IS STILL on but only on the weekends on the Toon Disney weekend block, tho, Sonic the Heghog yeah I know thats on Toon Disney ONLY b/c Disney had a deal with Saga back in the 90's and a deal with Nintendo to make the Mario Bros cartoon, I wish they STILL showed that, But hay its a Disney cartoon so MAYBE some day will see it on Toon Disney, yeah any ways getting back to the Sonic the Heghog thing Disney and Saga made a deal to make Sonic the Heghog cartoon's and then somthing happend (i don't really remember what tho!, I THINK there was a fight or somthing around there!?) But YES tho's Sonic the Heghog cartoon's belong TO Disney so they have the rights to show JUST them ones and the 2nd ones and thats it!, but the 3erd ones of Sonic the Heghog cartoon's are NOT Disneys!
Yeah! I here ya on tho's Disney cartoon's with JUST kids and going to school, but I still love them, LOL.

***House of Mouse is great! and i knew sooner or later it would come to Toon Disney, they will play it a lot too, right now there is to much doug and pepper on!***

Yeah I had thos same felling on "House of Mouse" (my ONE and OLNY favorite Disney cartoon!!) would end up on Toon Disney sooner or latter (No tell what Eisner is up to now a dayz! LOL) and Yes! Toon Disney does kinda fludd Doug and Peper Ann alot, But I SHURE do miss seeing them on ABC, But I think NEW peper Ann shows are on Toon Disney but Im NOT % shure, The Doug shows are NOT, but hopefly Disney WILL make NEW Doug shows b/c I really LOVE Doug! LOL

THANK YOU!

to make an analogy, saying that Cartoon Network was only meant for kids because it shows cartoons, is like saying that the Muppet Show was only for kids because it had puppets.

They knew going in that while a large part of their audience would be kids, that there would be an awful lot of teenagers, adults, seniors...whatever, watching as well. so they came up with a quite brilliant mix of old and new.

it's this kind of thinking that makes me angry. A comic book store owner is in jail right now, because he sold an over-18, undercover officer a rated-x comic book that was behind the counter, in a poly-bag, and clearly marked as 18+ only. the entire case against him? comic books are a children's medium, so obviously these books were being marketed towards children. and you know what? the jury bought it. so now this man is in jail, and what he did was perfectly legal.

that's where we end up when we start thinking of things in these terms of black and white.

I kind of like Recess...the movie was very funny with a lot of lines put in there for grown-ups too. (Very Henson-like)
I guess you have to look at it as cartoon makers trying to have their shows be relevant to world of the typical target viewer. Probably some copy-cat syndrome going on too...

You know, I like some of Adult Swim (SGC2C, Brak, Home Movies, Harvey Birdman...) and I like some of Cartoon Network. Actually, I used to like Cartoon Network more up until their Campaign 2000. The campaign was very clever and they pulled it off really well, but I was a little surprised and disappointed Scooby won. Now we've had to suffer through 5 hours of Scooby every day instead of the variety of shows they used to have (Gumby, Superfriends, Animaniacs, Freakazoid, etc.)
Looking back through my cynical eyes, I almost wonder if that election was fixed too...ah, for the sweet innocence of 2 years ago...

i used to love watching Gumby on Cartoonetwork! it was on late, as well as " just wait it your father get's, wait till your father get's, wait till your father gets home!" they can't do that now because they play Adult toxic waste... i mean swim...

well when cartoonnetwork STARTED, meaning first began, there was no "older" adult humor, it was ment for classics, they played older show that "now adults" watched when they were kids, it was ment to bring back memories and bring back classics like Yogi bear and Huckleberry Hound to younger kids. There were not cartoons that used fowl words or inapropet topics. i mean they had the show's featuring adam ant, yankey doodle duck, and top cat, before they had any "cartoon cartoon's for that mater. it would be years later before any adult swim cartoons would show up.

the Muppet show is compleatly diffrent, it was a show for everyone! anyone could watch with some jokes going over youger kids heads but not enough that a parents wouldn't want their childen to watch it. now with cartoonnetwork it is, even with show's like the powerpuff girls. With that it's the whole Power Rangers deal all over again!

never said the "3rd" sonic cartoon was disney, i just said it was junk....which it is:-)

thank goodness that they transplanted all the classics to boomarage!

thank you! thank you! and thank you!!!!!
