Hi all,

I know that the subject of how to edit video and what software to use has come up a few times and I wanted to pass along that AVID - pretty much the world leader in professional editing software - has a new FREE product available called AVID Free DV. It's basically a stripped down version of their professional software

I haven't downloaded it and tried it yet, but it doesn't seem to have any annoying "limited" features like outputting video with watermarks. I think one limitation is your videos can't go out to tape, but this might be a good solution for someone wanting to edit video for the web.

Other than possibly Apple's Final Cut Pro (which is only available for the Mac) AVID's software is about as good as you can get so this is definately worth checking out.

To download the program for the PC or Mac go to http://www.avid.com/freedv/

AVID's software is higher end (the full version retails for about $1,500) and is aimed at professional and "prosumer" users while Ulead is aimed more at the consumer market I think. As I said I'm not sure exactly what features are disabled in the free version of AVID DV but it's safe to assume it has a lot more goodies to play available to play with.

Which version of Ulead do you use? I have Premiere but I got a copy of Ulead with my firewire card and I haven't looked at it yet.

I use the 6.5 version i got it cause of the video effects and chromakey is actually pretty good. there are some blue screen tutorials on the net that actually help produce some nice efects using blue/green screen. thats the only reason i got it. plus it has audio combined and it makes a good capture utily staright into mpg. since my puter is so old when i capture video ulead captures it in mpg format for me to work with it. i havent used it in a couple of years. I havent had time to make any new videos. I hoping to get me a good puppet pattern so i can make a few puppets for a video idea i have just gotta save money. Avid seems very nice i downloaded it just to play with it. maybe i can create something great with it some day hehe
