What about in AMERICA!!!!!! eeeeek!
Great news. Did the French actually have original Captain/Matt segments or did they just dub over the English ones ? Thats the only way i can see them pulling this off with English audio without resorting to subtitles.

Im not sure abut the Matt segments, But they did have French 'Doc' segments.
I should think those parts would have subtitles, Or you get an option to watch the whole British episode with the Captain and UK Matt segments ?

Hey Warrick!
This is the news I've been waiting for! Unlike most people, I dont care at all about an american release, as I have a master dvd player (ie: can play every single media format on a shiny disc) that has region free. Folks, this might be it as far as FR dvds, so get your region free dvd player (usually the off or generic brands, which are cheaper anyways)

I just think that it's stupid and confusing that they have different formats for these things. Europe has PAL, we have NcST PH. D. E I E I O or something. That drives me nuts to no extent. If so, we'd be able to grab some British Fraggles DVDs and play'em here with-out expensive equiptment or those pricey conversions.
And besides, don't DVD's have different Language soundtracks anyway?

>>>I just think that it's stupid and confusing that they have different formats for these things. Europe has PAL, we have NcST PH. D. E I E I O or something. That drives me nuts to no extent<<<
thats true, but with a dvd player like daewoo or any number of off brand names, theres no such thing as regions or PAL or ntsc or a difference between vcd-vcdr-cdr. Heck, Im hoping fans start ripping specials like the Weezer half hour, Swamp Years, and I LOVE THE MUPPETS BBC special to cdr/vcd rips!
Hey Corey
I know you can get region free players in the states but how the heck do you get a PAL signal on a NTSC TV set - they are totally different display formats ? I take it you must have some kind of PAL compatible TV set as well ?

Dunno about Corey but I know the codefree player I have has the option to translate the Pal signal to NTSC or vice versa. PAL video tends to 'move' a bit oddly on my NTSC tv but it's better than nothing.

The region-free/all-region DVD players that work on NTSC TVs have a converter included in the unit that converst the PAL signal to NTSC. I would think it's just as easy to get one that will convert an NTSC signal to PAL.
It's more difficult with VHS. NTSC to PAL converters are relatively cheap, but getting a unit to convert a PAL signal to NTSC is another story. Those start in at about $400.

Well heres the thing. I used to have an expensive dvd player. Then my mom gave me some very generic dvd player she won,
and once i showed what it could do...i took back my other dvd player and now all my friends have generic 'master' dvds. These things are incredible: dvd all region even pal, vcd/vcd-cdr/svcd,
photo cds, cds/cdr music, mp3s...everything except console video games!
the signal? I dont know, but when i pop in my uk playstation region europe dvd, it plays FINE! I even got a huge flatscreen, and monster video/audio cables...so everybody over to cory's house for MTM and MFC! hehe I just want people to start converting never gonna be available to dvds tv specials to vcd! hehe. Anyways, I know people in europe that have these too, so they can play ntsc on their tvs.
Now PAL vcr? nope, thats wayyyyy to expensive to convert, as man i wish i could get a hold of the US banned song of the south and some other disney oddities.
So Luke/War/Jog/etc...what JHC dvds are there in europe that arent here? I heard storyteller and soon FR, but what else?

BTW, i know luke and some others said the hoobs wasnt the greatest show, but im still curious (i still havent even seen big bag) i was wondering why the hoobs even tho scheduled, never came to us cable? also, is bear in the big blue house in europe, or just US? If its one or the other, Im SO glad we get Bear. I love that show. I have idea thats would expand the format and make it cooler, but oh well. The Hoobs isnt like a bunch of muppets behind an anything muppet 'wall' ala sesame is it?

Hey,
I got this information from a TV Researcher in France.
I got the Fraggle Rock info from him too.
He said Thirty at first then Season by Season on DVD.
We will find out what this all means in September !
I'll keep you all updated !
See ya
Hey Corey
We get Bear, as well as Moppatop, as well as Hoobs, as well as other Henson stuff on Nickelodeon and it's offshoot channels. Basically we do better than most other countries Henson-wise.
Hoobs actually i now rate more than i ever used to - i spent a week reviewing it for Toughpigs and i got really into it and spoke to some of the folks behind it. The people behind it have worked on a few of the Muppet Movies and other Henson TV shows. It really is turning into something very Fraggle Rock-ish. It was supposed to come to the Odyssey Channel in the states but when Hallmark bought out of the Henson TV deal 'Hoobs' got nixed as part of that. Hoobs is definitely not a bunch of anything Muppets - they all have their own characters and are styled very differently, plus the music is i would say well at the standard of the Muppet Show or Fraggle. It takes a while to get into but i think it is something that has really gone underated just because it isn't on in the states yet.

From the same French Person i got the Fraggle Rock DVD info from.
We'll have to wait till September to know what is actually happening, I know im gonna see what happens in France before i buy the Columbia Realeses.
Id much rather Season Box Sets than Best of Discs...
See ya
The thing about French DVD's is that even with the english language track, the French will always be the one that plays when you first turn the disc on and change the audio track. Not saying that matters too much but it is a bit more fiddly than English discs.

Too bad they don't have "Choose a Doc" on those things. The English tracks could come with Doc or Captain, the French track could come with the French Doc... etc.

I want Fraggle Rock on region 1 (or better yet no region at all).
Hopefully some US company will wake up to the fact that there is LOTS of ca$h to be made in Muppet-land and give the North American market some cool DVDs really soon.

I think this was mentioned a while ago, but Amazon has a page up for a Region 1 Fraggle DVD release. It's not a real product page, but rather it's used to gather e-mail addresses to see if there is any interest in such a product.
It's not much, but at least we can sorta show our support for such a release.

In answer to your earlier question about JHC DVD's that are available in R2 that aren't yet available in R1, there's also the Farscape DVDs. Yes, i know we have Farscape DVDs here too, but the US releases are way behind the UK releases...the beginning on season two is out now here where the UK is midway theough season 3. So i definately consider it worthwhile to get the R2's. Plus it seems the R1's were formatted from the R2's which results in the R1 discs playing at a slightly slower speed than what they should. So unless there's a particular extra that's only available on the R1 releases (which would include the commentaries on episodes 1-6, the Chiana action figure easter egg in episode 15, and the commentaries and Rockne/Kemper profiles in episodes 21/22), i'd reccomend the R2 discs to any Scapers who have mltigion players.

...oh yeah, forgot, "Crackers Don't Matter" on the latest Farscape discs also has a commentary that previously wasn't available on the R2 release, but unless you're a completest or really into acting methods, it's not all that great as it's essentially director Rowan Woods asking Claudia Black all sorts of actor's craft questions - i think there's only one or two things that are ever mentioned that are relevant to the episode.
(Of course being an actor myself and totally in awe of Claudia's ability, i found it fascinating myself! BTW, i finally turned in my updated headshots/resumes/signed contracts to my agency today - would you believe it took AlphaGraphics about six or seven tries to get my resume right?!)
In addition HMV (HMV.com) in the UK also has a Summer sale on right now where the Farscape sets are at ridiculously low prices now - about £12.99 per set, when they used to be more than double that.
