 Richard is my favorite guy in the whole world, so this is sorta hard to answer. But, I guess on TMS it would be Scooter and Sweetums. On Sesame, I love Don Music. Don has the greatest singing voice. I wish that they didn't get rid of him. Oh well.
Adios,

Mine are Don Music, Placido Flamingo, Gladys, Forgetful Jones, the second head of Two headed monster for Sesame, and Beaker, Janice, Scooter, Sweetums, and Ronald Duck on the Muppet show (I couldn't think of anymore)

....DUH!!! Statler!!!!
And how come we limit him to Sesame Street and Muppet show? What about Junior Gorg of Fraggle Rock!

I love Gladys on Sesame Street. I think the humour of that character is so subtle and quirky...always trying to be another animal and all that.
One of my favorite Jr. Gorg moments is when he sings "What if a Friend" to his lost cabbage Geraldine. "Oh, Geraldine...I searched the whoooooole universe for you. Where did you go?"
It was very, very touching.

Well being that Richard is my all time favorite Muppeteer, choosing a fave character is like trying to choose a fave Eurythmics song!! Many and changes constantly based on mood...
...but i do have to give special nods to Don Music on Sesame Street (recently listened to audio of Mary Had a Bicycle sketch - i LOVE the way how he gets all angry and excited and then once Kermit suggests it can sound different the way he sweetly and meekly asks "It can?"), Gladys the cafe worker on TMS (short lived character but so classicly Richard - i really wish she would have stuck around longer - my all time fave Muppet line next to "Have a popover, Froggy" has got to be "SANDWICH! Here's your sandwich Frog!" and Gillis Fraggle on Fraggle Rock.
(and before anyone asks fave E'mics song is "I Saved the World Today" or maybe the live version of "Never Gonna Cry Again" or perhaps the studio version of "Satellite of Love" or maybe..

Scooter! Scooter is definately my favorite of Richard's characters; heck, my favorite Muppet period. Still burns me that he's faded into the background while Sweetums, Beaker, Statler and Janice still get to be seen (even though Janice doesn't get to talk anymore).
On SS, I'd have to say that Forgetful Jones and Don Music are tied. There are definately times in the 9 years that I took piano lessons that I felt like banging my head on that keyboard. And just the other day I had a bonefide Forgetful Jones moment (forgot the book I needed for one class, then forgot my notebook for another class; thank goodness we were only looking at slides that day!).
I saw the puppet up close once. Very cool!
You did?!? When was this?!?

Scooter. Not only a great Richard Hunt character, but my favorite. Janice is a second in the TMS group, followed by Statler.
As far as Sesame Street goes, I've never seen Don Music (is he the fat guy with the yellow hair?) So, I'd have to say Placido Flamingo. Love that dude! He's so cool I loved it when he sang for Yo Yo Ma.

Nope. Don Music is a yellow Muppet. Think Guy Smiley, only with wild brown hair and black-framed glasses. He played the piano and tried to compose great music, but he'd only get so far before getting frustrated, wailing "I'll never get it! Never! Never! Never!" and banging his head on the piano keys.

Nope. Never seen him. But he sounds like a great character. I do that on my brother's piano, and I don't even try to play! ... Um, nevermind.
I still love Placido Flamingo.

I just saw Of Muppets and Men, and I have to say, Scooter is still, deffenitely, my favorite Richard Hunt character. After seeing how close Richard was to the character, it makes you really start seeing a bond between the two.

after richard died, he wanted scooter to be retired...and it looked like for over a decade he would be, but then good ol brian henson performed the character in the christmas movie...thanks brian!!!!! we love scooter!!! woohoo!..

I love Scooter - especially when he uses the fact that his uncle owns the muppet theatre to get what he wants out of Kermit.

Its hard for me to choose my favorite Richard character, but I know my favorite sketch was Beaker "singing" Feelings in that teal velvet tux on TMS:eek:

Here are some Richard appearances dear to me:
The librarian AM on SS who gets annoyed by Cookie Monster.
Kyle Kawinga (sp?) the singing civil servant on TMS.
Richard as Beautiful Day Monster on TMS with Paul Williams.
There's more where that came from!

I love all of Richard's characters!
Janice, Scooter, Statler and Beaker- they're all fabulous. Richard is definitely my all-time favourite muppeteer, no one will ever replace him (apart from the new muppeteers doing his characters. who's doing janice now, they're just ghastly!!)

Say, I have a great MP3 of Richard singing a song about walking a vivacious dog. It's from TMS but I haven't seen the episode. Does anyone know what this character looks like?

Actually the character singing that would be Wayne, of the accident-prone singing duet Wayne and Wanda. You can read a little blurb about him and Wanda at Kermitage (http://www.kermitage.com/html/characterindex/tms/characterwxyz.html).
I'd also like to take this opportunity to add the Wild Impresario of Ghost of Faffner Hall fame to my list of favorite Richard characters. While he may be a bit similar to Don Music and Gillis Fraggle, I kind of see Wild as a father-figure to the residents of Faffner Hall. Riff and Mimi would probably be a lot more likely to go to Wild with a problem than Farkas. Plus it was Ghost of Faffner Hall that got me into Joni Mitchell, so you could say that Richard is partially responsible for my liking her ;).

Also remember hearing that Hunt had a great rapport with kids, which worked for his SS characters:
I remember one segment where one of his characters is ad-libbing with kids about what they want to be when they grow up, and one of the kids says "A cook"--
"Oh, a Chef of the Future, huh?"...

Richard's best character was Beaker. No ifs, ands or buts about it. Janice comes really, really close, but Beaker wins out in the end. If a character can come through that well and only say one word- "Meep!"- then that is a tremendous character. Steve's Beaker doesn't come close to Richard's.
Richard was a truly original performer. One thing observed: Somebody might be able to do Piggy perfectly after Frank is gone, or Teeth and Chef perfectly after Henson is gone. Richard is the one performer whose characters cannot be duplicated, not for anything. Richard was the original. I don't care what Henson says- Richard Hunt was the man most responsible for making the Muppets funny.

Scooter...Scooter...and...let me see...
SCOOTER
I love his characters, and Scooter was what first got me interested in the Muppets in the first place. I loved Scooter in Muppet Babies (despite it techinally isn't a "Richard Hunt" character, ya know) and on the Muppet Show. He's what got me into this lovely deal. :excited:

As said time and time again in various other threads - Scooter.
And like I've frequently said, I've had a certain fondness for the glasses-wearing, green-jacketed gofer since I was a kid.

Scooter, of course, and Janice. But I think my favorite (as of very recently) is Don Music. He's just so incredibly funny.
I'm also incredibly fond of Statler, Sweetums, Beaker, Gladys the Cow, Junior Gorg, and Placido Flamingo.

I've always loved Janice, her voice is so cool and everything she says is potentially funny just because of the way she says it, lol. :flirt:
I've also really started enjoying Junior lately, particularly in Season 3.
Placido is so outrageous and Forgetful Jones is very sweet and inspirational.
I have to admit I always had trouble liking Belmont from The Christmas Toy, just because he's such a coward and so mean to Mew, lol. But on the other hand, that's the kind of detail that makes a rich fully developed character. In the scene when Mew's about to be frozen forever, Belmont tells Rugby "You can't risk your life for a cat toy!", but at the same time you can see how guilty he feels.
Another one I can think of is the Baby Monster from the SS album Sesame Street Monsters (it can be heard on MC radio now and then):
"There's a little girl in the closet!"
"Junior, there's no such thing as little girls."
"There is so, Mommy, and I'm frightened! Instead of claws, she has hands!"
"Oh Junior..."
"And feet!" Lol
Very fun topic! I love so many of Richard's characters... but I think my favorite is Scooter. He's so cool! And he's followed very closely by Janice... she's so much fun!
But, I also rully like Don Music, Forgetful Jones, Sweetums, Placido Flamingo, Gladys, and Junior Gorg. And Statler, and Beaker, and... (this list could go on for a while...) ;)

My favorite goes without saying that it's Janice.
Altough Sweetums is also great, and since buying my "Old School" volume 2 set, I've grown to really like Don Music a lot. I love thoes skits, classic stuff.

In order--ranking from top three on my list:
Placido Flamingo is charming and his Brazilian accent was perfect! And I don't even think Richard was Brazillian! That ranks as my number one Richard Hunt character. Yes, no one remembers him as much now--but he is such a cute flirty little flamingo!
Beaker is adorable with his unique way of communication and is truly smart but is the plaything of that demented melon-headed nutcase of a genius! I think Beaker was just love at first sight (not in that way...I just liked the character instantly).
Scooter is HIM! As I've read. You know...I don't think I need to explain why. Just look at that ADORABLE little go-fer. :D

Um...ALL OF THEM! LOL, just kidding. ;) I'll try to narrow it down. (if that's even possible) Well, Beaker and Janice were my two favorites before I even knew it was the same person performing both of them, so they're definitely on this list.:flirt: I also really liked the character Mudwell the Mudbunny on Fraggle Rock. As for Sesame Street, Don Music is definitely in my top five favorite characters on the show. Also, I really like Leo the Party Monster, especially in this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFQASi9YY9w) skit with Telly. ("My arm is dead now. I cannot work now. I just wiggle dollies." EPIC WIN puppeteer reference.)

Well, if I had to pick a number one - without a doubt, Scooter! ;)
From the skits, shows and movies I've seen so far in my muppet venture -
(In no particular order)
Beaker
Don Music
Placido Flamingo (I've always got The Telephone of Brazil song stuck in my head - just so perfectly done by Richard!)
Sweetums
Statler
Forgetful Jones
Leo the Party Monster
Gladys the Cafeteria Lady (I quite liked her and the attitude Richard gave her)
Bobby Benson (I've only seen him appear on TMS Season 3 and The Muppet Christmas Carol so far. I haven't really heard him speak yet but when I first saw him, I don't know what it was but something about that character made me know straight away that he was performed by Richard. I look on Muppet wiki not long after and it turns out I was right!)

Like everybody else, I have plenty of Richard Hunt favorites:
The Muppet Show: Scooter, Janice, Beaker and Statler
Sesame Street: Forgetful Jones, Don Music, Leo the Party Monster, Richard's head on the Two-headed Monster and The Beetles' lead singer
Fraggle Rock: Junior Gorg and Gunge
Other: Charlie Muskrat (Emmet Otter's Jug-band Christmas) and Lugsy Bunny(The Tale of the Bunny Picnic)

Oh wow, I caught the telephone rock number just now on youtube after reading your post, Gelfing Girl and I LOVE it! Jerry Nelson's so awesome in this clip and Richard's old lady character cracks me up. I also caught some of The Beetles vids earlier and really dig the songs I listened to (Letter B and Thinking of U). I'm kinda ashamed to say that some of this stuff I'm just now catching for the first time

Yeah, Richard did a really good job on some of the sketches with the Beetles - he sounds really authentic. Those are some of my favorite Richard moments on SST - and of course, I do like Placido Flamingo and Don Music as well. (The outtakes from the Declaration of Independence sketch really crack me up.)
Like I said, Scooter heads the list of my favorite Richard Hunt characters, both on TMS and in general, and I also like Beaker, Janice, Statler and Sweetums.
On Fraggle Rock, I like Gunge and Junior, of course, but I love some of his minor and one-shot characters as well, like Gillis, Beige, Turbo and the Spiderfly.
